Anyone have an interviewer tell you flat out, "you're in?" It happened to me at my top choice school. Now I'm considering withdrawing most of my applications. But, perusing the residency forums, I noticed that many applicants heard similar feedback from program directors at their #1 programs, only to match at their 3rd or 4th choice instead. Makes you wonder....

Has anyone else received similar messages from their interviewers but not get accepted? How much influence do interviewers have anyway?

Don't do it!!!!!

Not until you have that acceptance in your hand.

Why would you even risk that? In the morning you'll be glad you waited.

Definitely wait. I think schools vary based on how much input interviewers get and you don't want to overestimate when you don't know. You've already paid the fees, go ahead and keep trying to get in at the other schools. It'll help pass the time.

Is your #1 choice rolling? That would be nice, so you don't have to wait forever to find out.

I echo what the others have said. I had interviewers tell me I was a shoe in to only end up getting waitlisted and rejected.

Besides if you keep the others and find out that your in you can have easy interviews not being stressed.

No, but I sure did get a lot of "WTF did you dress yourself in the dark?" Apparently, blue socks do not go with red shoes unless you are at a bowling alley.

(note the above is purely fictional)

Dude, that happened to me at Hopkins...now I'm a freakin mess waiting for a call that I already told all my friends I was pretty sure I was going to get.

I almost wish she hadn't done that, I would probably be a little less anxious right now.

I echo Megalofyia's sentiments. Same thing happened to me. According to my interviewer I was wonderful, I was a perfect fit, I was sure to get an acceptance...I was waitlisted and ended up being rejected. 😡

I had a dean of admissions tell me I was a great fit and "See you in August" and I wanted to take a look at something that wasn't on the tour and she said "Don't worry, there will be plenty of time to check that out when you come here in August". I also had another interviewer at that school say to the dean in front of me "She's going to be a perfect fit. She'll do very well here" and referred to me as "Dr. X". Waitlisted --> rejected.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

The one interview I had so far...that happened...and I ended up getting in. But I wouldn't risk withdrawing until you are accepted.

Don't listen. Maybe the interviewer really likes you and reallly wants you to be admitted, but most of the time that isn't enough. Many schools have the admission committee vote on you to determine if you will get in. Your interviewer may or not be on the committee (i.e. someone who actually gets to attend meetings and vote). Even if he is on the committee, he or she only has one vote. So don't do anything drastic (withdraw other applications, sign a lease) until you have an actual acceptance, not just the word of an interviewer.
