Hey everyone! I am transferring to a four year school from next semester.

Looking over the majors they offered, I was stuck between two, Health Science, and International Studies.

Health Science is a great major for pre-professional students, the program is very flexible in class choice and everything

International Studies is a major that greatly interested me! The major includes many social science classes and stuff, which I am genuinely interested in.

My questions to fellow members!

-To Non-Science major members: With choosing a non-science major, was it tough to complete upper level science courses? and were you happy in your non science major choice? would you have completed a science major if you had the choice?

-To Science major members: Do you wish you chose a non science major, or was it just a better pick because it was easier to complete all the pre-req's?

Everyone just please give your response, and tell me what you think.

Your responses will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks.🙂

Hello! I was a non-science major in undergrad and was still able to take all my pre-reqs with no problem because I was on a pre-dental track. I really enjoyed being a non-science major and would never have changed that!! I actually felt like I had two majors, and it was really nice sometimes, to get away from all of the basic sciences and learn other things!😉

You also know that you can major in anything as long as you take all your science pre-reqs.

I was an accounting major - worked in public accounting for a few years. If I could do it again I would major in art, music theory, or photography (even a major?).

Don't worry about not being a science major, enrich your life, major in something else. You'll get all the science you need in dental school.

I think it's great to be a non-science major. Not because it's easier, but because you get a very broad education. You can still be in great shape for D-school. I majored in Economics. It worked out well for me and I wouldn't change a thing. I've never felt I had any disadvantage. I actually feel advantaged, as I apply econ thought all the time. It is everywhere. I think Philosophy, English and Math are also good majors.

I am actually switching majors to something that interests me more. Glad to see it's not a big deal.

My question though:

People always say "major in whatever you want but make sure you take upper level science courses".

If you are a non-science major for instance (let's say Music) how can you take upper level science courses without being a major that requires you to. I understand that it isn't a big deal to take Gen Chem and Gen Bio and Orgo but how does one take classes like cell biology, anatomy, virology, etc. without being a major in something like bio or chem? Don't these upper level classes require certain pre-requisites that you only get if you are a science major?

Sorry to get off topic 🙂

Thanks so much everyone!

I really feel alot better, now I think that I will be proud when declaring my major, and to show that I'm not majoring in Biology like all other Pre-Dents. I think it will all work out. THANKS AGAIN!!!!👍
