I recently applied to dental school for the second time...First time I applied my grandfather died the day I took the DAT..This past june my father died 7 days before the DAT. I got a 16 both times due to my situation. I have a 3.01 undergrad gpa, and a 3.2 grad gpa in molecular medicine, I am also getting my thesis in cervical cancer, and I am a voulunteer histo tech at the local hospital. I also shadowed a pod doc a few years back so this is why I am considering the switch.

I called NYCPDM they told me I need to take the MCAT becuase the DAT isnt high enough an said a 23 mcat would be fine...Is it possible to study a few weeks an obtain a 23?? Im very tight on time with school an all.

Is my GPA good enough?? Is my experience good enough?? If i take the MCAT do I have a shot?? I reallly dont just wanna be pissing money away? Is it too late to apply?? Sorry for all the questions.

It's not too late to apply. Your stats are fine for pod school just get a 22 or better and you will probably get interviews everywhere you apply, and you will probably even get some with a 19 or better

You won't be able to 'study a few weeks' and take the MCAT because there are no more MCAT spots open for the rest of 2011 year. The next one is January 28 2012. Signups open sometime mid-October.

I'm sorry that you had tough luck twice like that. Just want to make sure your set when you apply, so please don't take this advice wrong.

If you scored around 16's on the dat, it may be hard to score 23+ on the mcat. Its definitely possible, but i would not recommend 2 weeks. Most people study for at least 1 month. Best of luck .

Your gpa is fine, but I guess I'm wondering why you aren't going to try the DATs again and apply to Dental school. It seems like that's what you really want to do.

I believe temple pod accepts the DAT.

Your GPA is ok, I would take the MCAT ASAP, study EFFECTIVELY before. I recommend watching chads videos online (he is an ASU grad who breaks down all the chem you would need to know and you can go at your own pace)
get some great LORs from people who think highly of you. then good luck
