I am graduating in may with a BS biology (3.4 GPA) and a minor in chemistry.
I have all but a few prereqs left (anatomy, psychology)
I start volunteering at a sports rehab place monday, and have an interview for a PT aide tuesday. Assuming all goes well, I plan to rack up a lot of volunteer hours over summer and apply to USC, CSULB, and Mt. St. Mary's. My prereq GPA is around 3.6-3.63.
I also have volunteer experience managing middle school track meets (leader in my community) from 2004-2012.
In addition to that, I have been working at a server at the same restaurant for the past 4 years

No GRE yet so that would have to be taken over summer

It all sounds good, but I was wondering, If I should rush everything to apply for the nov. 2012 deadline, or do it for longer and apply for the nov. 2013 cycle.

Advice ? 🙂 🙂😕

Considering how there's no guarantee that you're going to get in during the 2013 cycle, I think you should take your chances and apply in 2012. Every year the competition seems to get tougher. There's plenty of time to get volunteer hours and take the GRE.

I agree with the previous response. May as well give it a shot now. You're in a pretty good position as far as having most of the work done. You still have plenty of time before you have to apply for the upcoming cycle.

Good luck!

I would agree with the others: apply for this upcoming cycle and if you're not accepted at any of the schools, then you have your year off. That's what happened to me and I although I was disappointed at not getting into my chosen program in my initial application cycle, I had the experience of the application process, the interviews and time to improve my candidacy overall for the following year.

I would echo everyone else, unless that there is something you want to do that you think would take 2 years. I took 2, but that was because I needed a little more time to figure things out and my job really required two years to get things going (I'm a community outreach coordinator and have started a bunch of new programs). Also I would set aside some time to travel if you can. Backpacked for 6 weeks around Europe after I graduation: one of the best decisions of my life.

If you take anatomy and psych in the fall, you can definitely apply to all the schools listed -- Long Beach requires that all your prereqs be done by the end of the fall semester, but I believe USC and Mt. St. Mary's give you til the end of spring.

You have good GPAs; getting volunteer hours in other settings (inpatient, rehab, peds, etc.) and rocking the GRE will also strengthen your app. If it doesn't work our this cycle, there is always the next. Good luck!
