I am wondering if it looks bad to vet schools to take a semester off of school? I am a junior undergrad, and am wanting to take off next semester so that I can get mental health issues under control. Then I am considering transferring to finish up my last year of undergrad. Are vet schools understanding of this? Any advice/personal experience is helpful!
Thanks 🙂

Oh geez, yes, absolutely. You shouldn't be dinged for it at all provided that your application is competitive, especially if you continue obtaining vet experience during that time.

Personally, if I could do it over again, I would have taken a semester or two off during undergrad or maybe even a gap year before applying to vet school to get my mental health issues worked out...I feel like I would not be struggling like I am right now if I'd just swallowed my pride and taken the time off to decompress and focus on addressing those problems.

You should do everything in your power to make sure that your mental health is under relatively good control prior to vet school. Seriously.

Definitely agree with taking time to get healthy mentally. I would not have said that I had mental health issues prior to vet school, but hoo boy, vet school is a wringer.

It's also a heck of a lot easier to be successful in school, etc when you are in a healthy place mentally.

Take care of yourself.
