Taking more courses or re-taking DAT? I need help!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
let us know what your gpas are? If we know that then we can let you know.

I think you answered your own question: "a low range of overall GPA. (2.953, I know it's embarassing )"

I got a 20 on the DAT but applied with a 3.3GPA and was told (by both admissions and a dean) to take more classes to raise my GPA. It looks like you should do the same.

so are you not considering of re-taking the DAT? are you just gonna take more classes?

"yappy: 3.3 20 dat w/ 1000 hrs at dental office and not even an interview? I 2nd what HAS said. "

I applied in August ("late" for AADSAS) with a c3.31/s3.18 GPA and a 17/18/20 DAT. I got rejected from some of the schools, but I held my application at the other schools for new DAT scores. I retook the DAT late November (20/19/21) and added some school very close to their dead-line. My academic update raised my GPA to c3.39/s3.3. I think my stats are competitive enough to get in now, I was just too late applying last year.

As far as the rest of my application: Lots of dental experience, lots of shadowing, okay community service, 1 great LOR + 1 not as good LOR

loviesmile: I think you should do a masters or take more classes to get your GPA up. I think you would be crazy to retake a 20/20/21 DAT.

Improving the strengths of your application will always help, but never as much as improving your weaknesses.

Both of my cum gpa and science gpa are not in a very good shape.. I would say a low range of overall GPA. (2.953, I know it's embarassing )My DAT score is 20 (AA), 20 (TS), 21(PAT).

And.. I recently emailed the admission committees of a few dental schools.
their suggestions were rather blunt.
obviously they said either or both of taking additional courses or retaking DAT would help me.

Why not take your cue from the response you received?

One class isn't going to be enough to get you to a 3.0. I would drop the research, take on a couple more classes where A's are possible, and apply early. You scored a 20 on your first sitting, I think it's possible for you to get a 22 if you put the hours in.
