Hello SDNers!

I have a question regarding community college credit.
I am non-science major and UC GPA:3.9+ DAT:22. No research experience. Shadowing 500+hours.

Except for bio labs, I have completed all pre-reqs at one of UC campuses.
For bio labs, I took 2 quarters of bio labs at UC + 1 semester of MOLECULAR bio lab at community college.

I know that admission committee prefer taking pre-reqs at university.
But I took ONLY 1 semester of MOLECULAR bio lab at community college which was 1 semester unit.

MY questions are...
1. Even though my GPA and DAT are competitive, only 1 semester unit of bio lab at community college will adversely affect my chance?

2. Re-taking the MOLECULAR bio lab during summer at UC will boost my chance of being accepted?
(Because I am not a rich guy, if possible, I wanna save my money..)

3. I heard that some schools don't accept community college credit. Then...if I apply those schools, am I automatically rejected just because of 1 semester unit of MOLECULAR bio lab?

I graduate this summer with non-science major and apply UCLA, UCSF, USC, UOP, UPENN, Buffalo, maryland, boston, temple, tufts, michigan, case, nova, NYU.

My dream schools are UCLA, UCSF, UPENN, UOP,USC.

If it's not a pre-req do not worry about it. If you failed the class before, I would suggest retaking that class but with your gpa I don't see how you could have failed it.

Do you want your ego massaged or something?

For someone with a 3.9, I find it hard to believe that you do not know the answer to your question.

Reading posts like the OP's makes me think that my ridiculous worrying when there is no need for it, must be microscopic compared to some other people.

You are fine hun. 👍

I took 60 units at CC and I still got in!
YOU'RE FINEEEE!!!!
Among the schools you named, UoP is the only one that looks down on CC units. Nevertheless, you've only taken ONE unit at CC and I can guarantee that won't affect your chances in any way or form!!

Did you take the science prereqs at a CC? I'm applying now and took my bio, gchem, ochem and physics prereqs at a CC as a post-bacc student (34 credits, got a 4.0). I know many schools say they "accept" CC credits, but I'm nervous that it won't make me a competitive applicant. Did you feel the CC credits put you at a disadvantage?

Yea! I took science prereqs at CC. I wouldn't say it put me at a disadvantage! Financially, it worked very well. But perhaps it did hinder my chances at certain schools such as UoP! Nevertheless, I got in! So, taking classes at CC won't completely destroy your chances of getting into DS.
