Recently I found out I can get a job at wal mart (over here in Canada, its actually a pretty good job), its guaranteed I'll get it if I just give them one more reference.

I really need a job at this point since I'm really tight on $$$ however at the same time I need every bit of time to focus during fall when ill be taking gen chem, microbio, political sci.

I know it may not seem like much however I'm an international who has to commute across the border everyday and as a result I usually don't have much time. Plus for microbio only top 10% get As.

The thing that worries me the most is during my interview, the manager was concerned I wouldn't have enough time since she said there was another person who was doing the exact same thing and he wasn't able to keep up with things.

That's why I've decided to not risk my GPA over anything since it is already pretty low at this point for what I need and the positive benefits of working can always come later however the negative consequences could be severe and would last forever.

What do you guise think?

Im in a similar situation too but i decided im going to stick with my 13 credits and work 15 hours
im taking 2 sciences (physio and microbio) econ and chem lab
and working as a pharm tech but i dont have a commuting problem because i live on campus and the pharmacy is half way between my apartment in dowtown and home (where ill be on weekends)

I guess for you, because of the commute, your schedule would be a lot more stressful which makes sense why the pharmacist didn't recommend it and another person who worked there had problems. and gpa is definitely more important!

If you can explain your reasoning - you need not worry. Get good grades - borrow whatever you need to sustain you while you get those good grades.

While taking 13 hours is not mind blowing - it is perfectly acceptable.

Its not even a pharm tech job just a normal stocking job however I've decided to take it as long as they keep me under 20 hrs a week.

In the end, I have nothing to lose by taking it since I can just quit if it gets too intense however if I decide not to take it I probably won't get a chance for a decent job again in a long time.

I'm hoping to work only Fri/Sat/Sun, since these are their most important days, I'm hoping they will be ok with it, if not, oh well I quit 😎.

btw optimsitc828, check your webmail.

When you guys say "13 hours", do you mean 13 hours of class a week?

45 hours a week working, commute

14 credit hours, commute

volunteer work, commute

I think I am kinda busy this semester. Plus I am scheduled for october PCAT. 😱

I am taking 17 credit hours this semester, work anywhere from 15-25 hours as a pharm tech each week and have 2 kiddos at home. If you want something/need something badly enough you'll figure out a way to make it work. It's not easy and I'm sure that commute must be brutal, but if it means the difference between starving to death and having food to eat then you need to make a choice about it. If this job just means having a bit more choice in food/fun money/wiggle room then it might not be worth it honestly. The only reason I work is because of the experience. I need that because my application will need pumped up some. Otherwise though I'd not work because it is awfully hard with kids, school AND work. Oh and a husband who always wants/needs something also. LMAO. I swear sometimes I've actually got 3 kids.... 🙄

I've been working 30-40+ hours ever since my first semester. I had no choice, no other way to get money, and it has certainly affected my grades. And because my household income is so high, I never get any money from the fafsa, even though my parents are up to their eyeballs in debt which completely offsets their income. Oh well, that's life.

In short, put school before work at this point if you can. It's pretty sad getting a C for a course just to make some more money. Avoid it when you can. I'm still looking for that time machine...
