Taking USMLE 2 only?

Is it ok to just take USMLE 2 without taking Step 1? I have heard some DO students mention doing this. Does anyone plan to do this?

I want to keep all my options open when applying for residency because I'm not sure what specialities I'm interested in, but due to a variety of reasons I don't think I'll be taking USMLE 1. I've heard anecdotal stories that Step 2 of COMLEX and USMLE are easier and residency programs will weigh those scores pretty heavily too.

What are your thoughts?

You can. I did. Most residency programs ask for step I but they like receiving Step II instead of step I.

Depends on what specialty you're applying to, but in general Step II only > no USMLE (that is, if you're applying to ACGME programs)
