Which of the following reactions is the MOST favorable (has the MOST positive value for E0)?

a) 2K(s) + Br2(l) --> 2KBr (aq)
b) 2Na(s) +2Br2(l) --> 2NaBr(aq)
c) 2K(s) + Cl2(g) --> 2KCl (aq)
d) 2Na(s)+ Cl2(g) --> 2NaCl (aq)

i would pick D but the answer is C

dont get it

I believe it is because K is more comfortable with losing an electron than Na (lower ionization energy).

yeah I think this clicked right now.....

a lower ionization energy= means greater oxidation potential

E= reduction-oxiation

and so if you have a "greater oxidation potential" then your more negative right? and so E= (+) - (-) = large postive value

does this make sense though...?
