See section C of the verification worksheet. Question 1, check one of the boxes below...
Link: http://www.unthsc.edu/departments/financialaid/documents/0607VerWkshtIndepend.pdf

The first sentence says: Your application was selected for review in a process called "Verification."

Is everyone's application selected for verification?

I emailed Meagan Cross (Lori is out of her office) to get clarification on the topic.

Dax

EDIT: nevermind, ac beat me to it 🙂

Meagan's reply:

"Not at this time. Once we start the awarding process, we will determine if we need that from you. Until then, sit tight. As long as you have done your FAFSA and student questionnaire, you have done what you need to do at this point."

Hey, thought it might be most appropriate in this forum. I might have posted this a couple weeks ago as well. If any of you are looking for a roommate I have found some really nice 2 bed 2 bath apartments in this one complex going at some really nice rates. There are also a couple other nice apartment communities I am looking at also in Fort Worth. PM me or contact me at [email protected]. Congrats to everyone.

Does anyone know how formal Preview Day is, particularly the Friday dinner? I really do not feel like ever wearing a suit and tie ever again (okay, maybe for residency interviews-- but that's it!).

Great question.... I remember reading that everything was very casual. I was thinking of just wearing some jeans.... should I dress up? Do we need to wear slacks???

I was gonna do dressy casual, but a tour is involved so I have to replan my outfit cause I cant walk in those heels for long distances 🙁 I was thinking a button down shirt with nice jeans, we'll see....

Hey ac101ac,

Thank you for the message! Unfortunately, what I meant was that the post-bac class for next year were announed (not that the current post-bac were admitted to med school yet). But thank you for your enthusiasm and hopefully, I'll be able to join you guys next year!

Casual dress!!! No need for suits or slacks. Wear whatever you want, but be ready for the unofficial downtown tour. We'll leave straight from campus.

  Yay! I've been checking it frequently as well and it's still not on the student portal page. Thanks for the link!!

Hi everyone...just registered on! I was at spring fling..anyone else? Ah yes, the class website is up--but it is not accessible from the student portal, yet. You cxan access it from the above mentioned weblink. Anybody here in Ft Worth? Already settled in? I am a Fort Worther, so if you need anything or have questions let me know!

Hey Dr. Frog! i was at Spring Fling too...looked for apts, no luck. where is everyone else living. I dont wanna have to drive 15 min, but it looks like i just might have to *sigh* 🙁 Know anywhere nearer to campus than the apts on Hulen?

There are actually several places up and down Hulen to consider. The main thing is to come up awith a budget and how much can you realistically afford. There are some close rentals near the medical school as well. There are a few great places up 7th towards downtown that are just a few minutes away also. If you need help with directions or locations or just need somebody to go around with you, let me know... Friday-Sun are my days off (esp Friday). I live about 20-25 minutes away and its not that inconvenient.

Hey there Dr. Frog...welcome! So how was the fling? Was the student panel thing pretty informative? I'm looking forward to the online chat thing on the 9th too.

I was considering Stonegate Villas, but now I think I am going to look more in the Montiecello area. I paid $3.12 in gas yesterday, not cool 😱 i also like to get up late.... 🙄 In all, I think location is going to be more of a determining factor for me.

Yeah I've been looking around too. This website might help for reviews of apartments: http://www.apartmentratings.com/. I think its a fair website. Just be aware of a couple of things to keep in mind. Probably more of the dissatisfied tenants would post since they are mad at the apartment vs. the satisfied tenants. Satisfied tenants dont have as much motivation to post reviews. So some apartments may not be as bad as they seem. Plus keep in mind there is no 'perfect' apartment. However, if there is like 20 bad reviews and 2 good ones, most likely the apartment sucks and the 2 good reviews are from the manager. But also keep in mind WHEN the reviews were posted. Management could have switched between then and now for better or worse. Also consider how long the poster has stayed at that apartment complex. Makes you wonder if it was so bad why did they stay so long? I gues it could of been they couldn't afford to move... N E ways hope this helps. Good luck all.

The Spring Fling was alright...... The student panel answered several questions I had and a few I had not quite thought of...so all in all..it was helpful. Yeah! I too am looking forward to the chat thing.. When are you moving to Fort Worth? Are you excited or still taking things in?

I'm probably moving in July some time. I'm getting pretty excited, but apprehensive of the stress that's coming our way. I've been digging through the 'courses' part of our homepage today just getting an idea of what it's all about. So, yes, i'm getting excited. 🙂 I think when I saw my name on the list of students it really hit me that..... "i'm really going!"

Dax

For those that did not go to the two lectures during spring fling be aware that we have a summer reading assignment.... it will soon be posted on our official web site. just a heads up.

For those that did go... can someone review the case study about the bloody diarrhea? What are the only 4 conditions that cause bloody diarrhea?

I skipped the afternoon to look for apartments 😛 yay for summer reading assignments! I will be moving in whenever i can secure an apt. My lease is over in Waco May 31, so I either gotta put everything in storage or see if an apt might let me do a really cheap 1st mo rent. I will be home in June then come back to FTW in July to get acquainted before I have to start school. I am excited!!!! ummmm, how are we supposed to do our summer reading if we dont have books, is it online? anyone doing something cool for the summer...i wish i was :meanie:

I'm really excited about the WMD training/certification, the humanities course and MDConsult+tablet PC. TCOM sounds so awesome!!

I'm annoyed by the summer reading assignment only because we don't have a book. I really wish the financial aid office would disburse funds earlier so that we can get the book. And for those of us in ROME, since we're doing a mandatory preceptorship during the summer, we're technically "enrolled" then so we should be getting some funds, at least, if they were fair--especially since gas will cost a pretty penny heading out to the boondocks.

I don't remember the 4 parasite names now. If I saw a list of parasite names that cause diarrhea of any kind, I could probably pick them out. I think one of them started with an S, one was an E. coli type, one had an "h" as the first letter of the second word and the other one had a "C" in the first letter of one of the two words.

wait!!?!?!?!?! how did you get to ROME? I wanna do a preceptorship in Rome, I'll tag along, I'll even pack semi-light.

Just a guess here:

Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (Escherichia coli O157:H7), Shigellosis, Campylobacter, Ebola (hemorrhagic fever)?

Summer reading? I thought school doesn't start until August! 🙂 I also hope the book isn't expensive. Thanks for the heads-up on the assignment!

I believe that those are correct. By the way they expect us to buy all of our books before we start. All of the current students said not to. When you get your big buddy they will advise about what to do. When are we supposed to get our first dispersement of money? How are we supposed to pay for health insurance? By the way, I was the one with the infant daughter at all of the events. How would I have recognized you guys?

Yeah, the financial aid timing is going to be interesting since i'm going to use it for living expenses too. They really expect us to have all $1500 in books the first day?

Infant daughter? I have a 6 month old son, how cool!

Dax

hmmmm, I have 1st yr friends that I hope I can bum books off for a while until I get my financial aid. Seriously though, I am worried about paying for insurance, housing etc. For insurance, do they have a student plan we can get or do we have to find our own provider (currently I have student insurance which will be over in aug.)? On friday, I was wearing a red shirt and for saturday I wore a black shirt and jeans to the fair and a pink shirt to bowling. I was in group 1.

I think we have met during the fling. Are you doing the 7 year b.s + D.O from Denton?

Financial aid offic told me the money will come about a week before school starts.

I have been looking for various insurance option for a while, and I think the rates from www.somainsurance.com are pretty resonable, and better than what you can get from www.stdentresources.net.

Soma insurance also lets you pay your premiums monthly, you don't have to take a big hit all at once.

That's pretty funny! ROME is the rural pgm. : )

I was the one wearing beige slacks... I may have sat infront of you and your wife. I was in group 5.

Edit: This is in RE to JohnJuan's question.

Dax school actually starts in July. At the fling they said that even though it is called orientation we should think of it as class officially starting on July 24th.

Yeah, true. I can't wait until I get my hands on that tablet PC! I did email and confirm that everyone is getting one, even if you already just bought a new laptop (like me). Needless to say I was pretty miffed at plunking down $$ for it and having to buy theirs. That's what I get for not having patience. Oh well, one more toy to play with. 🙂

Yes that is me. How might I remember you? I have really got to start looking at what people are wearing. I don't socialize so well so I only met a few people.

Do you have to be a member of soma to get the rates? If yes, then how soon can you join. Do you have to be actually enrolled first? I should have asked more questions while I was there.

Is anyone else using the GI Bill to pay for school?

Hello again all.

What's this I hear of a summer reading assignment? Should I hit the "summer reading" table at Barnes and Noble? 🙂 I wasn't able to go to the Friday part of Spring Fling so I feel like I'm already behind with what's going on (I have no idea the 4 reasons for bleeding or whatever). 🙁

Anyone else from the Plano area? I'm not sure when I'll be moving out to Ft. Worth--still need to find a place to live.

Good times.

PS - I can't wait to have that Tablet PC as well. Sweeeeet.

You know Dr. Dubin even took roll.......he knows who was and wasn't there..... JUST KIDDING....actually not a lot of people were there for the Saturday lectures. He did have the class roster and was calling out random names to get us used to how he does it once class begins. It was really interesting and don't worry about the bleeding. I'm sure we won't get tested on that at least not any time soon.

We exchanged phone numbers in the parking lot Friday night after the tour as we were leaving.

SOMA membership fee is $60 one time fee. You can sign up with TCOM chapter and get a free Netter book. I just happened to sign up during housing fair and got my free book. If you are not a SOMA member, I think you have to add a one time $60 fee to your health insurance application. Contact TCOM soma chapter or teh insurance company at 800-349-1039 for details.

so you can become a member right away? Awesome. So you were the IT guy with the little girl. Cool. I assumed shutterbug was a girl for some reason. 😕 Sorry. We decided that we can not move out there right away. I will commute for the first year at least. 🙁 I did talk to the financial office today and they confirmed that we get our first dispersement about 10 days before orientation starts. How much does the health insurance cost through soma?

You have to be a member to get the insurance. The $60 "fee" is to join SOMA.

Unicare (www.unicare.com) has numerous plans to choose from - some of them are cheaper than SOMA. I went with the cheapest plan I could find as I don't normally get sick (aside from seasonal allergies).

FYI - you can see the NP at the clinic for FREE. You'll only pay for lab tests, imaging, etc. And if I'm sick enough to need blood work, etc, then I'm going to see my doctor anyway.

i just wanted to say hi to fellow future classmates. i've been following this thread for a while now. thought i should drop in to say hello. how many members of the class actually went to spring fling? i wasn't able to go...i've been so busy trying to finish up school work and projects. other than housing, socializing, and the reading assignment was there anything else important i missed?
