dr_frog_2010 said:There are actually several places up and down Hulen to consider. The main thing is to come up awith a budget and how much can you realistically afford. There are some close rentals near the medical school as well. There are a few great places up 7th towards downtown that are just a few minutes away also. If you need help with directions or locations or just need somebody to go around with you, let me know... Friday-Sun are my days off (esp Friday). I live about 20-25 minutes away and its not that inconvenient.
The Spring Fling was alright...... The student panel answered several questions I had and a few I had not quite thought of...so all in all..it was helpful. Yeah! I too am looking forward to the chat thing.. When are you moving to Fort Worth? Are you excited or still taking things in?Dax said:Hey there Dr. Frog...welcome! So how was the fling? Was the student panel thing pretty informative? I'm looking forward to the online chat thing on the 9th too.

I'm probably moving in July some time. I'm getting pretty excited, but apprehensive of the stress that's coming our way. I've been digging through the 'courses' part of our homepage today just getting an idea of what it's all about. So, yes, i'm getting excited. 🙂 I think when I saw my name on the list of students it really hit me that..... "i'm really going!"dr_frog_2010 said:The Spring Fling was alright...... ac101ac said:For those that did go... can someone review the case study about the bloody diarrhea? What are the only 4 conditions that cause bloody diarrhea?
UserNameNeeded said:I'm really excited about the WMD training/certification, the humanities course and MDConsult+tablet PC. TCOM sounds so awesome!!
I'm annoyed by the summer reading assignment only because we don't have a book. I really wish the financial aid office would disburse funds earlier so that we can get the book. And for those of us in ROME, since we're doing a mandatory preceptorship during the summer, we're technically "enrolled" then so we should be getting some funds, at least, if they were fair--especially since gas will cost a pretty penny heading out to the boondocks.
I don't remember the 4 parasite names now. If I saw a list of parasite names that cause diarrhea of any kind, I could probably pick them out. I think one of them started with an S, one was an E. coli type, one had an "h" as the first letter of the second word and the other one had a "C" in the first letter of one of the two words.![]()
Dax said:Just a guess here:
Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (Escherichia coli O157:H7), Shigellosis, Campylobacter, Ebola (hemorrhagic fever)?
I believe that those are correct. By the way they expect us to buy all of our books before we start. All of the current students said not to. When you get your big buddy they will advise about what to do. When are we supposed to get our first dispersement of money? How are we supposed to pay for health insurance? By the way, I was the one with the infant daughter at all of the events. How would I have recognized you guys?

Yeah, the financial aid timing is going to be interesting since i'm going to use it for living expenses too. They really expect us to have all $1500 in books the first day?
Infant daughter? I have a 6 month old son, how cool!

I think we have met during the fling. Are you doing the 7 year b.s + D.O from Denton?
Financial aid offic told me the money will come about a week before school starts.
I have been looking for various insurance option for a while, and I think the rates from www.somainsurance.com are pretty resonable, and better than what you can get from www.stdentresources.net.
Soma insurance also lets you pay your premiums monthly, you don't have to take a big hit all at once.
MoxieDO said:wait!!?!?!?!?! how did you get to ROME? I wanna do a preceptorship in Rome, I'll tag along, I'll even pack semi-light.![]()

Summer reading? I thought school doesn't start until August! 🙂 I also hope the book isn't expensive. Thanks for the heads-up on the assignment!

Yes that is me. How might I remember you? I have really got to start looking at what people are wearing. I don't socialize so well so I only met a few people.
Do you have to be a member of soma to get the rates? If yes, then how soon can you join. Do you have to be actually enrolled first? I should have asked more questions while I was there.
Is anyone else using the GI Bill to pay for school?

What's this I hear of a summer reading assignment? Should I hit the "summer reading" table at Barnes and Noble? 🙂 I wasn't able to go to the Friday part of Spring Fling so I feel like I'm already behind with what's going on (I have no idea the 4 reasons for bleeding or whatever). 🙁
Anyone else from the Plano area? I'm not sure when I'll be moving out to Ft. Worth--still need to find a place to live.
Good times.
PS - I can't wait to have that Tablet PC as well. Sweeeeet.

We exchanged phone numbers in the parking lot Friday night after the tour as we were leaving.
SOMA membership fee is $60 one time fee. You can sign up with TCOM chapter and get a free Netter book. I just happened to sign up during housing fair and got my free book. If you are not a SOMA member, I think you have to add a one time $60 fee to your health insurance application. Contact TCOM soma chapter or teh insurance company at 800-349-1039 for details.

so you can become a member right away? Awesome. So you were the IT guy with the little girl. Cool. I assumed shutterbug was a girl for some reason. 😕 Sorry. We decided that we can not move out there right away. I will commute for the first year at least. 🙁 I did talk to the financial office today and they confirmed that we get our first dispersement about 10 days before orientation starts. How much does the health insurance cost through soma?

You have to be a member to get the insurance. The $60 "fee" is to join SOMA.
Unicare (www.unicare.com) has numerous plans to choose from - some of them are cheaper than SOMA. I went with the cheapest plan I could find as I don't normally get sick (aside from seasonal allergies).
FYI - you can see the NP at the clinic for FREE. You'll only pay for lab tests, imaging, etc. And if I'm sick enough to need blood work, etc, then I'm going to see my doctor anyway.
