undergrad: None... I have all the prereqs for an AS done, but am holding off for job tuition reimbursement reasons (my boss is really cool)
pharmacy: Hoping for Midwestern - GCP - it's less than 20 min away from my house. :D Alternately, I hope ASU finally finishes their darn pharm program before I'm ready.
Job: Banking... I have had my CPhT for the last 2 1/2 years, but haven't done anything with it. I work in loan processing right now (~2 years), but I worked at a call center for the same bank before this (~2.75 years). Before that, fast food.

Looking for volunteer experience... Thinking about getting involved in Big Brother Big Sisters. Also found a neat Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic foundation, where they make audio books for the blind and developmentally challenged. Obviously, also looking for pharm volunteer work or tech job, but due to the 8-5, has to be on the weekend / evening... Wish me luck.

This is a fun thread.

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row.

I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru.

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge.

I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don't perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine and have won the weekend passes. Last summer I toured New Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat 400. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me.

I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me.

I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.

Hi, I just joined SDN, and I will really appreciate help from respectable members around.
I am fresh off the boat, so I gotta introduce myself;

Name: Eslam
Age: 18
Sex: Male

So yea, I am still 18, and My grades are out and I am nearly an official student at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Cairo University.
I, on the double obviously, searched for a pharmacy forum to help me out, and I ended up in here.

My question is (sorry if this is off topic) what is the steps I shall take considering that I will still begin in a month.
Secondly, because there's many threads in here and am confused, which topic can help me out?

Thanks in advance.

A bit unrelated to the thread, but I have a question to people that have interviewed for pharmacy school.... did the interviewers ever ask you this question? (though not really a question)

Even now, I can't think of a way to start the "tell me about yourself" question.

Even now, I can't think of a way to start the "tell me about yourself" question.

While I haven't personally interviewed, while studying up for interviews, I have heard of people getting this question.

I got it for the first time in the interview for my lab tech position not long ago. Kinda threw me off cause it's so vague, but not too difficult to answer.

edit: Now that I think about it, this could really be a good question for you if you script an answer. Think about some qualities about yourself or accomplishments that you think are special, set you apart, or that you really want to emphasize for whatever reason, and it's incredibly easy just to spike these into the response.

No replies to strangers?

Welcome to SDN!

I'm a little confused about your question - what specifically are you asking? Study skills? A question about a pharmacy program at a specific school?

Once you have it narrowed down, you may consider searching a few key words & see if the question has already been asked. If not, go ahead and start a new thread. :)

Thanks, my question was do you have any advice for someone new to pharmacy?

(I wanna win the noble prize hehe)

Research, research, research. Learn what it actually means to be a pharmacist, what types of job opportunities are out there, the pros and cons of the profession, whether it's actually a good fit for you, what it's going to take for you to get your PharmD (as far as time, money, and the amount of work involved), and how pharmacy compares to other fields in healthcare. Since you're from Egypt, you need to figure out where you want to practice. If you plan to practice in the US, you need to figure out which additional hoops you need to jump through to make that happen.

Age: 21
Undergrad: Molecular Biology
Pharmacy: Currently applying. Lipscomb is my first choice followed by UT Memphis/Belmont
Location: Nashville, TN
Job: Undergraduate researcher. I'm working on a cancer research project that has heavy emphasis on cell culture and minor emphasis on a mouse model.
Hobbies: Piano, reading scientific publicans :)love: pubmed), enjoying time with friends and astronomy.
If you could visit or live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Can't limit myself to one place. But I would like to live/visit Tokyo, Tel Aviv, Moscow, Buenos Aires (and other places).

I would like to study somewhere abroad where my effort is considered. Thank you for the good piece of advice.
May I ask what's PharmD?

It's the Doctor of Pharmacy degree, which is awarded by pharmacy schools in the US and some other countries as well. In some countries, it's still possible to complete only a Bachelor's level program to practice pharmacy but PharmD programs have completely replaced the Bachelor's degree programs that used to be available here.

I just joined the community so I figured this would be the best thread to make my first post.

Name: Damien
Age: 29
Sex: Male
Location: Miami, FL
Undergrad: Just pre-req from MDC/St. Thomas University
Pharmacy: Began PharmCAS
Seeking: Nova Southeastern Univeristy, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Job: Part-time Tutor (not really a job)
Hobbies: Playing Music (piano), Call of Duty
Pre-req: Need Orgo 2, Physics 1-2, 2 other electives.

Since graduating high school in 2000, I have been putting school off for sometime. I had a very good job that paid well but after a promotion the job was lacking dynamics and becoming too repetitive for me. In 2008 I felt my I was wasting my time and joined MDC (community college turned college). I slowly transitioned into school starting off with remedial courses and working my way up to Calculus, Orgo, etc.

With time I grew a love for chemistry and biology. Pharmacy seemed to fall into place. The more I learn about it the more I want it as a career.

This community is a gold mine of information. I have been lurking through these forums for some time now and decided to be a contributing member. Since I don't have much experience with the application process or what pharm school entails I will try my best to put my .2 cents every now and then, maybe even become a donor.
