At the risk of getting too personal, I thought it would be interesting to make a thread where we all posted our name, age, sex, undergrad institution, undergrad major, pharmacy school, job (if any), and anything else y'all think is relevant. I thought it would be neat for us to get to know each other a bit better since a lot of us don't have any information in our profiles.

I'll even go first :)

What did you do (or do you do) in public health over in LA, and did it influence your decision to go to pharmacy school (.......why not an MPH.....) or were you always planning on going to Pharm school????

I am a Health Inspector here in Baton Rouge. I do routine inspections of restaurants, daycares, schools, hospitals, nursing facilities, prisons, water supply systems, wastewater treatment plants... West Nile Virus season is here again, so we're also collecting dead birds:mad: ...etc.
All I can say is Louisiana is quite a mess.
I'm just here in LA with my girlfriend while she teaches until we move to wherever to whatever Pharmacy school. I'm originally from Sacramento. I've always planned on going to Pharm school. I know that UCSF offers an MPH program through the PharmD program at Berkeley, so that might be cool if I actually get in...

did las vegas send out the acceptances yet?

Riskhk:

Sorry, I don't quite know when they'll send those out. All I know is that they have had interview days scheduled this month (I didn't volunteer to sit on any interview panels this month). We've got about 800 applicants for probably less than the 100 seats in next years class. That's all I've got, sorry!

After rattling off your list of several top 10 pharmacy schools, I'm curious as to why Rutgers is your frist choice "without a doubt" over lets say USP, USC, UCSF, UofF, or Maryland. Is one year enough time to complete the pre-reqs for all those schools?

Rutgers is my first choice because this is home for me, and I love it here. Rutgers has a great pharmacy program, so why would I want to relocate? Another consideration is that it would be a lot cheaper for me to stay here, as opposed to going out of state and paying $20,000 a year or more.

As far as pre-req's go, I might run into problems with USC because they require microbiology and biochem, and at my school you need to have Orgo I and II done before you can take them. Hopefully I can pull some stunts and get special permission or something....But for most other schools I will be OK. And hopefully that'll be a moot point if I can just transfer into Rutgers. This year I am finishing Bio and Chem, Physics in the summer, and I will take Orgo and Anatomy/Physiology and other miscellaneous pre-req's my fifth year. It's an uphill battle but I know what I'm up against and have made up my mind.....This is definitely what I want to do with my life!

Right on Cyclo!! We have a bunch of Santa Clara peeps at SC. The rad intern i work with who is also my LKS sister is a Santa Clara grad. She provides the most thoughtful pt consults that i've ever encountered. Pts love her. She can be hella firm too though. There's a great story of her cappin on the pharmacist for interrupting her during a consult. Oh yeah and she's hot as a flame-thrower too. Not that i care ;)

Hey Tri!

LOL, that's cool! Santa Clara is a pretty small school, and we don't take the statistics of people that go to pharmacy or other health related fields (at least I don't think we do). I wish we could get Santa Clara graduates that go into pharmacy to come back and talk about their experiences.

The Orlando campus is a dump. It's actually in Apopka which is not a good area. The St. Pete campus is brand new. Eckerd donated a million towards the new pharmacy building that is under construction. St. Pete has a lot of older students, too. I'm 47 and I'm not the oldest student there.

You're a cal-stater!! that's cool. I went to the university of washington, but i wish more cal state students were applying. we only have one sdsu student. i actually wanna recruit at cal states. it's definitely an untapped resource in pharm schools.

in following with the format:

Name: Eddie
Age: 21
Sex: Male

Undergrad: 4th yr at UC Davis but will use up the full 5 yrs and summers to finish up pre-req's.

Major: economics (if u are undecided, i suggest to avoid econ major! only minor if u are interested. anymore and u will be WASTING YOUR TIME!!!)

Pharmacy School: WHEREVER they accept me. although Triangulation expects me to apply to USC, the only CA school I plan to apply to is UOP and Western. but anywhere on the West Coast with Las Vegas being on the top is preferred . but anywhere from Florida, to New Mexico to wherever. my dad said "if u get accepted into a weird state, just go. its only 4 yrs. " gee, thanks dad.

and heres my space to speak. so listen up while I vent! +pissed+ Economics is a useless major. like I said before, if you find econ. interesting, do the minor. the major is a waste! In my 4 yrs, I have only taken FOUR classes that are even worth a damn. (and 2 of them aren't even for my major!) The worse part is, the major is hard! and it is all based on BS theories.

i.e. ASSUMING the exchange rate is constant and US's inflation rate is on the rise and China's population doesnt grow and if the moon is full and its raining in Spain, and blah blah blah, THEN price should equal marginal cost in the long run. I MEAN, WHO CARES?!?! I feel if I took intro to micro and macro econ, and read a few books, I would have learned just as much as I have now. God what I would do to start over.

ok, thats it. i just want to say that I envy all of you who got your stuff straight and are in pharmacy school or are pharmacists. My ultimate goal is to be a pharmacist until I am 50 or so, then retire and teach 3rd grade at my old grade school. =) and when I am a pharmacist, I will make every effort to help undergrad's with internships and letters of rec. I wish there were more "cool" lay back pharmacists out there. Most of them I met are too old to even care.

any cool pharmacists here? :D

Heh, you are right, eddie!!!

I was an economics major my freshmen year. After finishing my micro/macro series, I began taking the core requirements. And boy let me tell you, IT WAS SO BORING and UNSATISFYING!!!

Then I found the world of Biology. And the rest was history!

Pharmacy school, don't know yet

Job: research assistant.

My two cents. Don't be a chemistry major. It stinks LOL. Smart people don't go into chemistry :) It's a great background but there is no way I will do it forever........

julie, are you from new york? i am! also.. i think you'll be glad your a chem major once your start pharm school. The first year will probably be much easier for you than many of your classmates.. it might even be a joke..or you might be able to place out of a few corse.. so don't cast aspersions on your major just yet ;-)

You're high as a kite!! Econ rules!! My major was cell/molecular bio, but if i could do it over i'd major in econ!! Ok, not quite true, but i wouldn't have minded at all. My father was an econ prof, and I can say with conviction that it's the only true social science. Dead serious. There are rules like Le Chatelier's Principle in Econ, it's just got someone else's name.

Don't know enough about micro, but macro rules!!! John Maynard Keynes kicks much @ss!! Understanding that stuff is ridiculously important. I think the necessity of econ study is what makes pharmacy far superior to the other health professions.

well, dont get me wrong, this is all my opinion. i know a few ppl in my classes who love this stuff. but i just HATE it. not what i expected basically.

Guess I'll introduce myself as well...
