Here is a rough outline of the dental school interview as posted by my school's pre-dental society. Hope it helps...

Interview for Dental School:

Tell me about yourself:
Tell me about your family:
Why Dentistry?
What is your alternative plan?
What physician has been a role model?
I was asked do you have any role models? And then I answered and talk about them- semi made it into a joke lol
Why would you make a good Dentist?
Give examples!
What ethical issues face medicine? (not asked- does not pertain to dentistry as much)
What are you looking for in a Dental education ?
What attracted you to this school?
What makes you a good match for us? What will you bring to this school- how do you differ from other students- “How do you know you are ready for dental school”?
What will you bring to this school? What makes you different.

What weakness do you have, and how did you overcome it/ them?
I was asked about shadowing what did I like and what did I dislike- they were trying to phrase it as , “from shadowing what did you witness are the flaws- weaknesses in dentistry “ This is exactly where the VCU rep was getting at… have you shadowed enough to know the pros and cons to dentistry.
What do you do in your spare time? .... are you a lil biatch or do you have a life outside of academia… otherwise known as hobbies…
How do you deal with being overwhelmed ?
What is your favorite : ( I was not asked any of this)
Book: do you even pleasure read? ....
Movie: Do you ever go out…..
Music: Do you listen to musics…….
What ethical dilemma have you faced? How did you resolve it?
What courses did you enjoy the most in college?
What accomplishment/s are you most proud of?
Do you have family members in the medical field? Explain….
What volunteer and clinical experiences have you had?
Tell me about your research (well this one pertained to me since they looked at my resume… they may ask tell me about XYZ- something from your resume in the extracurricular section/area.

II there anything not in your file you would like me to share with the Admissions Committee?

What do you see yourself doing in ten years?

Any questions for me?

Word of advise:
Be able to Answer these Questions as if talking to a friend:
Be Real, Be yourself, no Fake BS…

It may sound like a lot… But its really not, and if you’re an interesting person- things will go smoothly

I’m going to be honest here, at the end of the whole interview process with everyone in the same room, they will ask if anyone has any questions. Please don’t be the ******* to ask a stupid ****ing question… it drove me nuts and I guarantee that will hinder your chances and make you look dumb...

I did so much interview prep and was asked 2 questions at UCLA ("tell me about yourself" & "why didn't you do research as an undergraduate?") and 1 question at Columbia ("tell me about your experience tutoring").

lol

If I even sensed a canned answer it would be a huge red flag.

I disagree. Ask a question if you have one - but make sure it's not something that has already been reviewed.

From my personal experience being interviewed, I did very little prep for the interviews other than looking presentable - and when asked questions I simply answered them - like any other question I might get asked on a daily basis.

I agree with you vellnueve. These were all the words of someone else.

Really?? That is all? Why do you think they asked you so little?

Well I have good grades and a lot of my family is in dentistry, so I think they just assumed I would be ready for the rigor of D-school and also that I am genuinely passionate about the field. They just wanted to check that I'm not crazy, lol.

hope my interview turns out like yours. instead of being interrogated by the admission committee.

Depends on the school and on your application. I only had to do an interrogation once, the rest were much more laid back. I've heard horrow stories from colleagues who interviewed at some of the western schools.
