As far as Temple itself, I hated the location. Not so much because it's in a crappy area, (although that is a big deal because I would have to live there!) but more so because it didn't seem like there was much to do in the immediate area. The P2 that gave us a tour was super friendly and was honest about what she didn't like. She said that overall she feels that the Pharmacy school is underfunded and that Temple is always working on improving the Medical school and rarely mentions plans to upgrade the Pharmacy school (which could definitely use some basic work.) I also didn't like how each class had designated classrooms. The P1 classroom on the 1st floor was nice, but I didn't like the idea of sitting in the same room for 7 hours/day, everyday, for a year. Going into my interview Temple was my 2nd choice and Nova was my 3rd. Now, I think I would rather go to Nova.
The area of Philly where Temple is located is supposedly pretty crappy, but there are lots of places that are nice if you don't mind commuting via car or subway. The Northern Liberties area is fairly close by and has a lot of newly renovated places (just take a look on craig's list for pictures and prices), and center/old city has lots of nice, but expensive, places. University City (where UPenn and Drexel are) also has a lot of student housing and would probably be a 30 minute subway or car ride from Temple pharm. My point is that there are nice places in philly to live, and because of public transportation or your own car you aren't necessarily restricted to living in a certain area.
www.septa.org has all of the trolley/subway info for philly. Allegheny stop on the Broad Street subway line is 2 blocks from the pharm building, and semester subway/trolley passes were around $250 this year.
I don't know the Temple area well, so you may be right in that there's not much to do, but center city is always close by and has a wide variety of restaurants, clubs, bars, and shopping. There's also lots of historic stuff, the art museum, and a zoo if you're into that.
But if you don't like the actual pharm school well then the rest of the city doesn't matter that much, but I just didn't want people to be scared off b/c the immediate Temple area is pretty rough looking.
EDIT: added some stuff
Like I mentioned before, I don't personally know the temple main or pharm areas well, but I had remembered seeing lots of listings for newly renovated places in northern liberties on craig's list.

Here's an example, it has gated parking and is probably about a 15 min drive from the pharm school given normal morning traffic. It says convenient to public transportation but it's about a mile from the subway so maybe a trolley stop is nearby. I can't vouch for the safety of the area but the apartment is pretty sweet judging from the pics.
Northern Liberties is about 2-3 miles from the pharm school so it's something to think about. It's a place that has been heavily rehabbed lately, but it'd be nice if someone actually living in the area happened to be on SDN to say how safe it is.
::ANOTHER EDIT:: area might drastically increase in rent during your time at pharm school as forbes.com comments that Northern Liberties property has increased 70% in price over the past two years, which is among the nation's largest increases.
