congratulations. What was ur pcat score if i may ask? thanks.....

my pcat was in the 70's range. i already have a BA degree but went back to school to take pre-req's -- 4.0gpa, ~50 credits. let's see, volunteered at a hospital in the pharmacy department, was awarded a fellowship at a major pharmaceutical company and am doing research at an orgo lab, so i had lots to talk about during the interview. someone pm-ed me about my interview experience -- pretty low key, no scientific questions (lucked out!), it was only me and another person so i didn't have to struggle to get noticed like in other group interviews. let me know if you guys have any other questions!

oh, not sure where i am going but i didn't like temple at all.

And by the way, did u get accepted anywhere else? why exactly did u not want to go to temple.

I still haven't found out how many registered drugs are on the market. Did anyone find that number?

As for the other questions:

There are approximately 200,000-300,000 board certified pharmacists in the U.S..
Around 4 million prescriptions are written daily. (Based on numbers from 2000).

I asked the pharmacist I work with and he couldn't believe some of the stuff Temple asks you. He estimated around 6,000 registered drugs but he really wasn't sure.

4 MILLION prescriptions are written daily? woahhh

I can definitely believe that 4 million prescriptions are written daily. I've worked in a doctor's office for years, and there are days that the physician I work with goes through 2 prescriptions pads. And there are 2 other physicians and a nurse practitioner in the office...and this is in a small town in Bama - so I can only imagine how many are written in the country/day.

I have another question about Temple as well. Do they invite everyone with a completed application to interview? Or just 'qualified applicants'? I'm just curious because they seem to invite a lot of people to interview.

They said that people who's pre-requisite GPA is above 3.25 AND a composite PCAT above 50% were invited to interviews. I heard that they accepted about 50 people so far including alternates.

I remember seeing this question somewhere, but can't remember who asked it,

I heard that they accepted about 50 people so far including alternates. I am assuming the bulk of their interviews are coming up so they save a lot of spots.

I don't know about the interviews....i heard march was the last month of interviews. I work at the pharmacy school and i think i see less people each day for interviews. I only saw 4 ppl for the 10 interview yesterday and 2 today. I hope they get done with interview by march....i am on the alternate list and hope to hear something soon.....AHHH!!!! i am losing my mind waiting for their decision. I need some kind of an update....yes or no!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody else on the alternate list getting tired of waiting......i wish they would tell us if are files have been re-reviewed or they haven't even looked at alternate list yet....something...anything would help!!!!!!!!!!!

Stats:
Pre-Req GPA 3.95
PCAT--70 %ile

Okay, this is what I found out from my friend who is a current student there. She is pretty good friends with one of the staff member who works in the admissions office. This isn't exact quotes or anything...my friend said the admissions staff isn't allowed to reveal certain information with students, but here is what she found. These are most likely estimates. Currently, Temple has offered about 85-90 acceptances, not including alternates/wait-list. Their average class size is around 158. And yes, March is the last month they are conducting interviews. As of right now, they haven't sent out anymore interview invite letters. Supposedly, the school sent these out in a bulk mailings and applicants were to schedule interviews either in February or March. The admissions commitee is supposed to meet sometime soon to evaluate all the applicants that have interviewed since the last time they met until now and more acceptance letters will be sent out. The commitee will meet again at the beginning of April to evaluate the last group of applicants that have interviewed. Then they rank all the people on the waitlist and as seats open up, they start taking people off the list. My friend said Temple usually works with a waitlist of about 20-30 students. Hope this helps a little!

Thanks for all of the info!!🙂 I wish I knew of the 85-90 offers Temple has extended how many people have sent in deposits. That's probably not something the adcom tells other students though. Hmmm.

Thank you so much for the info....it helps a lot. I guess ppl on alternate list should hear something in mid april or maybe even earlier. It would be very nice to know how many ppl have sent in their deposits.......i hope they don't fill up all the seats by the end of interviews, that would make it easier for alternate list ppl to get accepted.
Well something to hope for.....thanx a lot again.

Hiren

I just came back from my interview at Temple. You can check the feedback for the questions that were asked. It wasn't anything for which I had previously prepared but nothing impossible.

FINALLY.............just got my acceptance from temple....i am so excited....so much frustration and stress has just been relieved.
Good luck to everyone still waiting.

so, what was ur pcat and GPA. Do you have any pharmacy experience. And what was the break down of your individual sections on the pcat. And by the way, CONGRATULATIONS........

CONGRATS pokey83!!😀
Is it safe to assume that's where you'll be attending?

I just got back from my Temple interview and it was strange, to say the least. My interviewer was only concerned about asking us healthcare-related economic questions. He didn't want to know why we wanted to go to pharmacy school or why we were interested in Temple. To be honest, I really don't know how he is going to be able to recommend or not recommend us, considering he didn't want to know anything personal about us. I left having NO clue as to whether I did well or not.

While I was waiting in the admissions office I found out that there are currently 70 people on the wait/alternate list and that admissions decisions are being sent out daily. My group was told we should hear something in about 10 days.

Hi Calrx,

I interviewed back in January and we must have had the same interviewer! My interviewer also asked strictly economic and political questions. He didn't seem very friendly at all and all of us the group were really confused about the whole experience. I really wished that I had had a fifferent interviewer because then maybe I'd have an entirely different opinion about the school. What did you think about the rest of the school?

Ha, I know I was thinking the same thing when I met the guy... "Damn, this was Stephie's interviewer!" He was friendly and nice, just a little hard to follow at some points. He would ask questions like "What % of the government's gross income from taxes is put towards healthcare in the form of hospitals, clinics, medicare/medicaid programs, etc?" Then we basically just went around in a circle and said what we thought it was and afterwards, he would tell us who was right. I have a hard time understanding how he is going to be able to recommend/not recommend us because ALL we talked about was economics. And conversation certainly wasn't "flowing." Luckily, I knew a few of the questions he asked but in general I had very little to say (This is strange for me... I usually talk a lot!🙂 ) He asked me where I see the US's healthcare system in 10 years... I don't know! I just thought the interviewers approach was odd. The ONLY personal question he asked us is where do we see oursevlves in 10 years (career wise.)

As far as Temple itself, I hated the location. Not so much because it's in a crappy area, (although that is a big deal because I would have to live there!) but more so because it didn't seem like there was much to do in the immediate area. The P2 that gave us a tour was super friendly and was honest about what she didn't like. She said that overall she feels that the Pharmacy school is underfunded and that Temple is always working on improving the Medical school and rarely mentions plans to upgrade the Pharmacy school (which could definitely use some basic work.) I also didn't like how each class had designated classrooms. The P1 classroom on the 1st floor was nice, but I didn't like the idea of sitting in the same room for 7 hours/day, everyday, for a year. Going into my interview Temple was my 2nd choice and Nova was my 3rd. Now, I think I would rather go to Nova.

calrx,

I'm sorry that you had the same interviewer as me! Very strange guy indeed...

I had the same exact thoughts as you did about the facilities at Temple- kind of old and in need of some upgrading. I also didn't like the way everyone sat in the same exact classroom all day.

You mentioned that Nova is now your 2nd choice. If you don't mind sharing, what is your 1st choice?

Stephie

Wow, calrx...that's crazy. Your interviewer sounds scary. :scared: I'm sorry your experience was less than ideal.

My interviewer was almost the exact opposite. He only asked us one economics-related question. We weren't asked to relay any facts at all. We went around in a circle giving our opinion on whatever question was asked, and then the interviewer would tell us his views. I really liked this approach because it didn't make me feel like I was being judged. He was actually very nice.

I agree that the Pharmacy School definitely needs more funding/repairs. I went into the bathroom and almost threw-up. I couldn't believe that bathroom looked that bad on a college campus. They need more money just for janitorial services alone.

I didn't think the area around the school was actually that bad, but eh...it's a matter of opinion. All in all...I had a positive feeling about the school.

How many alternates have had acceptaance letters already?

The University of Cincinnati (UC) is my 1st choice. I felt the most comfortable there and really like their program. Hopefully I'll hear something soon. Eeeek!

Nerdystar- I wish I had your interviewer! I was prepared to answer all the basics... why Temple, why Pharmacy, tell me about some current events... but NOPE! I got Mr. Crazy Economics dude instead. Oh well! And you're right, Broad St., where the school is located, isn't that bad during the day (night might be a different story.) When I asked the P2 girl who gave our tour what she didn't like about Temple she commented that she hates how you can't walk more than 3 blocks in any direction without fearing for your life (her exact words.) She told us that you have to be careful where you park as well because she parked on one of the side streets near Temple one day and later found her car window smashed and the case of water that was on her backseat missing. Nothing valuable... just some bottled water! Overall I would say I had a positive experience as well (nothing went drastically wrong!) After being there, I now know that I would prefer to go to UC or Nova. What school is your 1st choice?

I got my acceptance letter today!!!

I checked my mailbox before my 3:30 class, and there was this big, fat envelope from Temple sitting on top of my overdue library book notice! 😀

Calrx - My first choice was Mercer, but I goofed on the supp app deadline...so that's a distant memory now. I'd love to get into USP, but I've heard that it's pretty impossible, but I turned in an appy anyway. I've heard absolutely nothing from them at all. 🙄 Honestly, I really just want to get out of Alabama and not attend a school out in the boonies! :meanie:

I've decided on Touro for next year- yeah for sunny CA! I was also accepted to Midwestern CCP but I liked the 2 +2 program and the professors a lot at Touro, plus my fiance wil have an easier time finding a job in the Bay area.

Good Luck with Cincinnati!!!

Thanx Pokey 83....I'm so upset that I haven't heard anything yet...but I'm happy to hear that you got accepted to MCPHS (thats my first choice), Congrats. I'm hoping to hear something this week.

You actually have the correct info, I was told the same thing when I called - 3.2 GPA and 50 percentile on PCAT (my GPA is 3.66, and my PCAT was 63 percentile), but there are two girls in my physics class that applied last year with a PCAT in the 30th percentile and were invited for an interview. They didn't get accepted, but I guess that the rest of their application wasn't strong enough.

I also have almost 5 years of experience in the pharmacy (started at 16yrs old) where I worked full time as a senior certified tech while taking 18 credits, so I hope that they take that into consideration.

I'll keep you updated though, hopefully I'll have something to tell you by the end of the week. 🙂

Hi! So students with 3.1 or 3.0 won't get accepted! Has anyone received an acceptance with stats lower than 3.2. Also, to the people with were acceptance when did you turn in your application?

Don't give up! I have a 3.08 overall, and I just got accepted. I have no idea what my pre-req GPA is(never bothered to calculate it). I do have a 97 composite PCAT, so maybe that's what gave me a little bit more edge. I'd say you still have a chance. 🙂

I turned my app the first week in January.

Thank you! I am applying next year(2007). I wanted to apply Temple this year but I never did. Congrats on your acceptance!

The area of Philly where Temple is located is supposedly pretty crappy, but there are lots of places that are nice if you don't mind commuting via car or subway. The Northern Liberties area is fairly close by and has a lot of newly renovated places (just take a look on craig's list for pictures and prices), and center/old city has lots of nice, but expensive, places. University City (where UPenn and Drexel are) also has a lot of student housing and would probably be a 30 minute subway or car ride from Temple pharm. My point is that there are nice places in philly to live, and because of public transportation or your own car you aren't necessarily restricted to living in a certain area. www.septa.org has all of the trolley/subway info for philly. Allegheny stop on the Broad Street subway line is 2 blocks from the pharm building, and semester subway/trolley passes were around $250 this year.

I don't know the Temple area well, so you may be right in that there's not much to do, but center city is always close by and has a wide variety of restaurants, clubs, bars, and shopping. There's also lots of historic stuff, the art museum, and a zoo if you're into that.

But if you don't like the actual pharm school well then the rest of the city doesn't matter that much, but I just didn't want people to be scared off b/c the immediate Temple area is pretty rough looking.

EDIT: added some stuff

Like I mentioned before, I don't personally know the temple main or pharm areas well, but I had remembered seeing lots of listings for newly renovated places in northern liberties on craig's list.

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/144838931.html
http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/144809649.html (i believe the same building but different pics)

Here's an example, it has gated parking and is probably about a 15 min drive from the pharm school given normal morning traffic. It says convenient to public transportation but it's about a mile from the subway so maybe a trolley stop is nearby. I can't vouch for the safety of the area but the apartment is pretty sweet judging from the pics.

Northern Liberties is about 2-3 miles from the pharm school so it's something to think about. It's a place that has been heavily rehabbed lately, but it'd be nice if someone actually living in the area happened to be on SDN to say how safe it is.

::ANOTHER EDIT:: area might drastically increase in rent during your time at pharm school as forbes.com comments that Northern Liberties property has increased 70% in price over the past two years, which is among the nation's largest increases.

I was just wondering where most of the temple students live. I know there are lots of apartment close by the school......but i am not too fond of the area.
Right now i live about 30 min ride from school.....i was planning on making the commute.....however it would be nice to live close by and not have to worry about driving every morning????
Any suggestions would be great????????

If you do live close by....what do you think of the are.....have you had any problems. Also how are the prices for the apartment and do they have parking spaces. Parking is also what i am worried about?????
Sorry about lots of questions.....just needed some info for planning.
THank You

Don't give up! I have a 3.08 overall, and I just got accepted. I have no idea what my pre-req GPA is(never bothered to calculate it). I do have a 97 composite PCAT, so maybe that's what gave me a little bit more edge. I'd say you still have a chance. 🙂

I turned my app the first week in January.

Did you get accpeted to Temple?

its better to be half hour away from that neighbor hood if you ask me like in northeast philly

I'm new here but a long time lurker.

Interviewed with Temple on 3/21 and was accepted on 3/21.

Hey guys, I finally got an invitation for an interview for Temple...It's on the last day that they are having interviews 4/7.

I've heard some people having bad experiences at their interview...does it really play a big role in your acceptance?? What kind of questions were you asked?

If you have any advise for me, please don't hold back!
Thanx

Check out the interview feedback. I posted the questions I was asked there.

It's a very laid-back experience. Just go in there and be yourself! 🙂

Well, who knows, I still have 3 other schools to hear from.
Temple :scared:
LIU :scared:
Rutgers (yeah right! thats not going to happen) 🙁

hey!
I am interviewing at Temple on April 7 too! see you there)
As for LIU i woulda say - forget it! i am a junior at LIU right now with BioMedTech major and i cannot get into the program, i applied second time for this fall. They really dont like transfer students, especially if you are outta state now that LIU is the only pharm schoool in New York City.
And LIU is very much retail-oriented, so if you wanna work in industry, you will not learn much.
Rumors are at LIU that you can get in to the pharm program with 2.0 GPA if you sleep with dean's son .... ))))))

GOOD LUCK ON THE INTERVIEW.....it was very laid back interview. Atleast the experience i had. They asked the simple question...why pharmacy and why temple. It was like a conversation rather than an interview. I had interview with 4 other students....however we respected each other. I think we each had equal time to seel ourselves. Nobody interrupted each other or put down anybody. OVerall very relaxed process.....so i wouldn't worry too much.
Good luck once again.......

So do they have your file infront of them when you are being interviewed? Or is it just general questions that they ask the entire group?

Well if you go to Temple you can sleep with me. I am hot, have money , and am very smart. See you in August!
