Hey guys!

I am thinking about taking either kaplan or princeton review for the MCATS but have not taken physics yet. Would it be allright for me to take the review without taking physics yett or is that not a great idea?

thanks! =)

The general consensus is to finish your pre-reqs before taking the MCAT. But that said, you can learn physics from Kaplan or TPR is some ways much more efficiently and thoroughly than your undergrad course. I took physics I and II right before I took the prep course for MCAT but I found out that the stuff I learned in my undergrad course was inadequate and ill-suited for the MCAT. Most of the stuff I learned dealt with plugging numbers into formulas and had very little to do with thoroughly understanding the concept. The TPR PS book really helped me in order to actually understand physics for the MCAT.

I disagree with the above poster: there is no consensus.

I have had a number of students in my (TPR) physics calsses who lacked the physics prereqs; I know from their experiences that it isn't best, but it's usually OK.

i would advise taking physics prior to takin the mcat because there is quite a bit of it on the actual test. i do agree with a previous poster about the undergraduate class primarily teaching you to plug in numbers, but it still helps to have some sort of background because you need to know how to do both, which is use the formulas mathematically AND understand the concepts. to study for the physics section i am doing problems in my physics book just so i can be comfortable with using the equations and being able to quickly (and correctly 😛 ) manipulate them, but my mcat books really help me understand the concepts as well. ultimately u should be comfortable with both aspects. good luck to ya! :luck:
