Well, I had my TX Tech interview last Friday and I can tell you that it is a long day. It started at 8am and lasted until 4pm. You have to complete a critical thinking test, a group dilemma, and an interview with two people at once (a student & a faculty member). Plus they give you a tour of the school, have an orientation about the school, and have a Q&A with current pharmacy students. It is a long day! At least they provide lunch for you though.

From reading the info for TX A&M's interview. It looks like it is a shorter day. Plus, they have a writing portion. Hope that helps!

I didn't interview with Tech. I do know that A&M's process is more laid back and shorter. We had our interview, the writing portion and Q&A with current students (I'll be at a couple of those this semester! I'm excited to meet you guys!). I can't remember if they provided lunch...I know they did during pre-orientation and orientation... Anyone else remember?

Texas A&M's interview is much shorter than Texas Tech's. It lasts about 2 hours at most. You have 30 minutes for the essay, 30 minutes for the oral interview, and the rest is the student Q&A and dead-time.

They don't provide lunch since the process is not that long. They do provide stuff to drink, though.

I was so happy to get an interview for TAMHSC scheduled for the 17th but now I have a dilemma. I'm scheduled to take an exam (vertebrate physiology 2) the same day and my professor is unwilling to let me take the exam a day in advance out of fear of leaking answers. Would it look bad if I called the school to ask them if they could reschedule my interview? What should i do? 😕 🙁

hey sky i sent an email accepting the offer and got a receipt email back from them. but the next day i still got a reminder that i have to send in an acceptance email. should i tell them again? or is the email jury sent out like that generally?

im in the same boat as you. i called them and they said you have to email the ppl at A&M and let them know in writing and they'll get back to you. they also said the chances of rescheduling are quite slim...
 
Why don't you call them to confirm that they had your confirmation? It could be a general email sent out to everyone. Doesn't hurt to check.

I would call them or e-mail them again just to be safe.
 
for those of you who are still waiting for invites (myself included), the main website says the office will be closed today and tomorrow. So im guessing the invites that would have been sent today or tomorrow will postponed till monday. nancy allen, the person that works there says they will open again on monday, unless the weather goes even worse.

btw, what if you have a above average GPA (3.65) but a way below PCAT (45 composite). how do they judge applicants, i know there are other factors out there like pharmacy experience/extracurricular but i feel like im in the no-consideration list for interview. any advice would be appreciated

I think someone previously posted the breakdown of how they rank you. I believe they rank your GPA, PCAT, recommendation letters, essays, and interview. I may be missing something. I think everything is 10 points minus the interview which is 25. Someone please correct me.

Thanks for the info and yeah, I feel ya. I'm in the same boat (GPA= 3.6 PCAT=41...retook it in Jan but they aren't accepting that score).
Hopefully the weather will permit us to hear about something on Monday. Good luck to you and everyone still waiting!
 
yeah, I think Dr. Robertson came to speak at a lecture here at UT, and I believe he said there is some sort of point system, and ranks based on that.

Yes, here is the point system for you guys, it has been posted on here before, so I am just copying and pasting:

15 points - PCAT
15 points - GPA
10 points - Recommendations (all 3 of them together)
10 points - Essay (done on the day of the interview)
25 points - Interview itself



Yes, we don't have classes tomorrow due to the weather conditions. Hang in there guys. I know at least some of you will get interviews! 👍

I hope y'all are ok in the weather down there. All the schools here in Houston are being cancelled as well. I was reading that UH interviews scheduled for tomorrow were cancelled (causing a ton of problems with people booking flights and hotels).

Not a problem!! I actually drove from Kingsville to Houston after classes today after we found out classes were canceled. My husband is living/ working in Houston, so it's nice to get to see him for a longer weekend and hopefully see some snow! 🙂 I lived in Houston for a year before starting pharm school. 🙂

Too funny! My fiancee goes to school at TAMUK, which is why I'm really pushing to get in to the school down there. I'm glad you had a safe drive and will be able to spend some time together! I definitely know what that drive is like and how torturous it can be to be away from him for too long! Enjoy your weekend 🙂

Haha, yea. We got married 2 weeks before I started pharm school. So, we haven't had more than a month total (Christmas break) together married. I just cherish the times I get to spend with him more. 🙂 Good luck to you! You've got my vote! 🙂 Have a great weekend too, stay warm!

I was in the same boat as you (although it was University Physics) last year when I applied...

Wait, that was UT. What I ended up doing was accommodating both the interview and the exam. I got everything prepared on my car before the exam so that I could leave IMMEDIATELY after the exam finished.

If that timeframe is not possible for you, then yes, I think you should follow the procedure mentioned earlier to make it in writing. Make sure that you emphasize that you desire to come to interview, not that you're pushing interview aside for an undergraduate exam. Hopefully, they'll understand.

Another thing to consider is... is that exam necessary for you to get a decent grade? Another exam of mine was actually scheduled for the same time as my A&M interview, and again, the professor refused to change it. (What is up with undergraduate professors and thinking they can just impede their student's future anyway? I mean, mine went "I can't make an exception for you, whatever the circumstance, and that is final.") So in the end, I looked at the syllabus, the exam itself was worth 10% of my final grade, but I accumulated some extra credit on the previous exams anyway, so I deemed it appropriate for me to just skip on it.

Oddly, that was the one semester I got mostly A's... I only didn't for lab... but you know TAs.

So guys if we don't here anything from A&M by Feb 24 for an interview invite does that means we should be expecting to get a rejection letter, because that is the last interview date posted on there website?

Are there any interviews held in march or is a decision made by then.

(I know this question is to early to post because invites are still going out but I just don't feel to confident about my application)

Our school doesn't send out rejection letters to people who have interviewed. If you don't get an invite to interview before the last day of interviews, I'm not sure if they would or not, but I do know those are the last interview days, so there won't be any march dates.

for those of you that are pharm students at A&M, have you heard of anyone that have been able to changed their interview date?
 
^^ There's still hope. I remember someone saying on the forum that they were called for an interview later on. No worries.

Several posters above discussed the topics. It won't be anything in-depth, and nothing scientific. When we did it, we sat in a room in the back of the computer lab with little booklets and pencils for 30 minutes. Dr. Robertson just asks you to write clearly enough that they can read it. 😉

Honestly, you're not going to be given a difficult topic; they're just trying to assess your ability to communicate an idea in writing. Don't stress it. 🙂

I genuinely don't remember mine. 😀

Yea, we had to write ours in a blue book. I think talkingdonkey said that this year they will be typing the essays. I don't really remember exactly what mine said, but it was something to the nature of "why are you good for our school?" or "what makes you unique?" Something like that. Like pharmB said, nothing really scientific (unless they've changed it), but I wouldn't sweat the essay part.

also, i know of a few people who were called to interview the day before the actual interview. soooooooo.. pack your car, get your keys, and find a map cause they interviewing everybody out here

I has been very windy here today. Tomorrow more wind is predicted, cooler. Thursday even colder. High of 53 on Thursday. Dress pretty warm! 🙂 Safe travels!
