You got the list all wrong...

A&M=Tech > UTSA > UTMB > UTSW > UTH=Baylor

As far as location, Temple/CS, Lubbock/El Paso/Amarillo, and San Antonio are the only places where 60-70K will buy you a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath brick home which is <10 mins away from school/hospital. The other people purely waste months of their lives commuting.

And from the complete list, Tech wins out for the best well rounded students as far as patient contact, interactions, and procedures. A&M would be a very close 2nd or equal. At those other places, get ready to be number 7 in line to do anything.....

Sorry, but you are smoking crack if you think that A&M and Tech are anywhere near the league of Baylor/UTSW in terms of preclinical and clinical education, reputation, match list, average board scores, etc, etc, let alone MUCH BETTER than those two schools.

ok, I decided I'm going to try and go a whole day without checking my e-mail. I think I've developed a serious psychological problem and its worrying me. Who's with me?

I think i'm developing a nervous twitch

jota_jota's opinion>everybody else's opinion=God's opinion

I already got the first 30 min down ---- a record!

haha.. you've got a long ways to go. I would actually attemp not to check my email if this was a month ago, but being this close to the end of pre-match offer period, I just gotta keep checking my email and keep my hopes up!

I bet a "hey I just recieved an acceptance e-mail from so and so school" would get you to crack.

haha, you're probably right. But I've got to be strong. I've literally DISGUSTED myself with my compulsive behavior. And I'm sure if I can overcome this challenge, somehow the med schools will know and be proud of me and send a one of them pretty acceptances.

God's opinion > jota_jota's opinion > everybody else's opinion

God's opinion has better board scores... but then again jota_jota's opinion medical center is the best in the southwest.

The only good thing about everybody else's opinion is the teaching hospital and balance of PBL with traditional curriculum.

I know the feeling. I'm actaully looking forward to Jan 1st regardless if i get an offer or not cuz i know I will have a month and a half free of worrying about checking my e-mail for acceptances.

I broke down and called A&M. They sent out this round yesterday and this morning by email and snail mail. Nothing more until next week. 👎

I called A&M and they said they sent out more acceptances yesterday, the 12th. They're going to send more on the 20th.

Darn, guess my LMFU change was nothing after all.

so pre-match acceptances are given out until jan 1st?

Are any of ya'll out-of-state residents? I'm an undergrad in state, but not a resident. I've had interviews but haven't heard a peep.

good lord, i don't know what to do with myself. i figured if i didn't get anything yesterday, nothing would come until next week. but if i didn't make it this week, what's to say i'd make it next week? this is killing me lol.

and bevoxiv, yea dec31 is technically the last day they'll send anything out.

Yeah I agree. I JUST had my UTSW interview on the 9th so I was wondering if there was any pre-match chance for me. I LOVE UTH but UTSW is close to home.... I just want to know all my options! I almost don't like this system better because of all the agony its putting so many of my friend's through! 🙁

Someone posted on another thread that Houston is done. UTSW I got Monday. So those might still be leaking out.

Yes, ppl who interviewed in December still have a chance for pre-match at Tx schools until 12/31. Just that the chance of that happening are slim because so many people are holding multiple acceptances so schools dont know exactly how many spots are available. If ppl w/multiple acceptances start declining early in dec., I think schools will send out pre-match acceptances accordingly, even to people that interviewed late. Otherwise, we all have to wait for match. Still hoping to hear from Houston and SA...good luck

I think our last invites went out this week for the last interview in January. The class is supposedly now overextended but, the over accept but a certain percent and have some spots for the last group of interviewees and some others according to our rep.

well... those people will eventually be matched. by feb. 15th im pretty sure this new system will be found to mirror the last system almost exactly.

how many spots are left for match? it sounds like if you dont get a pre-match offer you have a very slim chance for match.

Hes talking about UTSW which should have a reasonable amount of seats for match. UTMB however seems like they are full to the brim, wonder what they are doign for match

well... schools alwasy send out more invites than seats.... essentially its a business and they have to make sure they are at capacity. most schools don't say how many seats they offer, but a&m shared that statistic with us and it was something 300 offers for 90 seats last year. so if students are declining offers in proportions to a&ms numbers then you can prolly expect a lot of match offers.... but then again, what do i know? just speculating.

A&M has a poor yield. I am not sure what are yield is but, we do overaccept (probablly similar or less so than UTMB) and if need be pull a few from the waitlist. I think the basic point of prematch atleast here at UTSW is to extend offers to people here early who would and likely get offers from other top programs eg. Baylor, Hopkins etc. I think we are teh reason for this quasidissolution of the match anyway. If you haven't heard from us the process is rolling so you could likely here something anytime from now to the cut point for offers to be made, the match day, or later. I know it sucks to wait but, if it was last year everyone would be waiting untill the first. This is just more in line with the rest of the country with the exception of non-rolling schools such as HMS, Yale, etc. who notify in March. Good luck and I have to get back to studying.

While it's probably true that UTMB is "full" right now, a lot of people will probably pick other schools over UTMB come month's end, and spots will open up. Then there's Baylor, which is the wildcard in all of this. As more Baylor acceptances are given, spots will open up at all of the schools. I bet that UTMB has a fair number of spots available for the match.

If that was the case they shouldn't have made me an offer since I didn't apply to any AMCAS schools and would have likely ranked UTSW 1 anyway.

after interviewing how long did it take yall to here back from texas tech?

This has probably been answered, but f we have a prematch offer at our top choice do we need to put any other schools into our match list and if we do, do we still rank the schools, which had prematch offers that we declined.

I don't see why we would have to rank any other schools, but want to make sure there isn't some crazy TMDSAS rule.

although the ranking is irrelevant and unnecesary i believe you still have to do it to please the tmdsas gods

From TMDSAS:

"Applicants holding the one offer will also submit a preference list ranking that school and any other school(s) where they interviewed and did not receive a pre-match offer, if desired."

The "if desired" is key here. And it looks like you don't rank those schools that you've already turned down.

I would think UTMB would have more seats open then UTSW, since UTMB only offered 1 batch of acceptances while SW has numerous batches of pre-match offers.

it doesnt matter how many batches a school sends out. it depends on how many actual offers they sent out. UTMB might have sent out only one batch, but they could certainly have filled them all up, while UTSW could have sent out several smaller batches.

Has anyone received an acceptance for UT-H that interviewed December 1st or later? On a side note, has anyone received any interviews lately (anywhere)? Like within the last week or so??

Thanks

I guess we'll see. I just dont understnad why people keep saying UTMB is really full when it seems to me most pre-match people have mulitple acceptances. And i doubt highly that UTMB or any other school would overextend that much b/c they could rely on match to fill whatever slots are open.

anyone have any thoughts/info on whether it would hurt your chances if you are a TX resident who went out of state for undergrad? i am from north texas and went to Oklahoma (if you couldnt guess), anyone hear of the UT schools being biased against apps like me? i am still technically a resident so i know it shouldn't matter, just curious i guess.

Hey.. I have heard that some schools don't like it if you leave TX for undergrad because it shows that you may not be commited to practicing in Texas. If you left once, they think there is a higher likelihood of you leaving again once you get out of med school. This is coming from a close pal who went to LA school for undergrad and applied to TX schools (4.0GPA, 30ish MCAT). He interviewed at UTH only (applied to all but Baylor) and his interviewer told him that he should have stayed in the state because of the above reasons. He assured the interviewer that he wanted to stay in TX, and he was later accepted through the match. So who knows if it really matters??

Just some some people feel better, I've been keeping track of how many people have posted multiple acceptances to different schools and made a decision.... this kinda shows that though some schools may have given out all of their pre-match seats (UTMB) they will still have to use the match due to people turning down seats. I only kept track of schools I've interviewed at.... UTMB, UTSA, and TCOM and so far it looks like this many people have turned down seats or will be doing so come match time:

UTMB: 18
UTSA: 13
TCOM: 16

For example:
lilTXcatMD (Accepted to all 3 but turned UTSA and TCOM)
ProdigyMD (Accepted to all 3 but turned down all for another, can't remember which)

I know I'm a dork but it helps when you start thinking things are filling up... and remember this is just those with multiples posting on SDN and those that have posted somewhere that they are choosing such and such over another.

Just FYI, I was asked why I went to school out of state by every interviewer and some admissions staff. You should have a good answer handy as to why.

I went OOS for UG, interviewed at 4 TX schools, prematch acceptance to 2. I've been asked why I went to my UG at EVERY SINGLE INTERVIEW (not just in TX). My explanation (for TX interviews) is always that I knew I'd be going back to TX for medical school, but I wanted to take the opportunity to live somewhere else and go to a school with a geographically diverse student body.

ugh.. if it hasn't been said enough.. this process suckSss! i hate being in a guinea pig application year.

TMDSAS schools should either have rolling admissions or the match. not both. sigh it doesn't seem like its working out well for the average applicant (or for me really heh)
