What are people doing about thank you cards?
Just to the admissions committee.... or to interviewers also?

I only sent them to the interviewers - are you sending them to the adcom as well?WannaDoc said:What are people doing about thank you cards?

last year, the majority of people on SDN and the people i knew sent thank you cards/emails (to those who only gave you an email) to their interviewers but not the adcoms.WannaDoc said:What are people doing about thank you cards?

DesiMcatAcer said:So, whats the verdict with Anm, Tech and UTSA for pre-match offers?
It's not really possible. Especially if you are interested in campus tours, etc. All of the schools to which I have been invited for an interview had interview day schedules > 1/2 day.soccerman3 said:Has anyone successfully pulled off interviewing at two schools in the same day? I went ahead and rescheduled my conflicting interview invite, but I'm wondering if I should kick myself for doing so if I could have managed to knock out both schools in one trip (e.g. UT-Houston, UTMB Galveston).

side question: i've submitted my tmdsas app, but i haven't gotten all my letters in (stupid slow recommenders). it's the only thing i have left. some of y'all have gotten interviews w/o letters. does that mean that tmdsas went ahead and processed it?
AggieJohn said:PS: I didn't meet any SDN'ers... I guess its not as easy as I thought to pick you out from the crowd.
Anyone going to Galveston this Friday or UTSW this Saturday? I'll be @ both.
Pemberley said:EDIT: I still haven't decided whether I think thank-you-notes to interviewers are polite or sycophantic... I know many people send them, but I'd really love to have official guidance on the matter... Miss Manner's Book on Med School Admissions or something.
jillibean said:The doc I have been shadowing does med school interviews and thinks getting "thank you" notes afterward is pointless... interviewing students is part of her job and she submits the evaluation within a couple of hours of the interview, so don't expect a thank you note to improve your eval. You might ask around and see how other docs feel about them.
rosis28 said:If anyone has any luck finding mailing addresses for UTSA faculty/students, let me know. All I can find are e-mail addresses.
I'm assuming it's better to send thank you notes by regular mail than e-mail, right?
spursss said:If you are sending thank-you cards as a way to improve your chances of getting into medical school, you are right, it is pointless. But on the level of professionalism and thanking them for giving you the opportunity to interview at their school, I think it is appropriate. For any job, school interview, whatever, it is always polite to send a thank-you to them. This is just my point of view. It is a matter of respect and I think it shows respect on our part when we send thank-yous to them. It shows that you are taking the whole process seriously. But I could be wrong, but I don't care, that is why I send them anyhow.
. When did you receive the invite? Right now?WestTexasRambler said:Sweet, a little UT-Houston action on the 6th of September. Boy those glamour shots really work at helping you get an interview.

Yes, I'll be at Galveston on Fri.

Your area sounds like where I was sitting. You should've said something!
If you see me again just wink and say the phrase, "LLLLLLet's get rrrrrready to rrrrrruumbbleeee." If anyone says that to me, I'll know its you! And if you say that to the wrong person... well it could be a great conversation starter!

Wow 🙂
EDIT: I guess I don't have any room to talk. I've been playing GTA San Andreas for the past few days and I could tell you quite a bit about the game 🙂
So You got an interview at UTSW with no letters of rec?TroyJS said:App finally got reviewed last Wednesday.
Had an invite from Southwestern by friday, and got one from UT-H and UTMB on monday. Just waiting on Baylor, A&M, and UT-SAN now, but still got to get my LOR' s sent out which is probably the holdup. Funny thing is all the interviews are for the same week.
9/6
9/8
9/9
I find myself getting excited now. The interviews are making the whole process seem much more real all of a sudden. And as a 27 year old nontrad, the all important realization of quiting my job and going back into debt is starting to creep into my waking thoughts.
Good times 🙂

Was your TMDSAS processed on the 08/09 or 08/02?TroyJS said:App finally got reviewed last Wednesday.

I think it's official: UTSW will be showing lil'ol'me no love this year.
Pemberley said:I don't know, their first round of interviews certainly doesn't seem to include the sub-3.6 GPA crowd (ie, me!) but there could always be a second round, after they've had time to go through the applications with lower numbers in more detail.
I wonder whether UVa has the same policy, by the way, all the mdapps profiles that show a 2007 interview invite from them are 3.6+ and 31+, but that might not mean much -- there are only twelve on there so far...
Anyway, congrats, TroyJS, that's quite a haul. And nice of them to pack it all into one week for you, too.
Richspiders07 said:I only have a 30P with around a 3.5GPA and recieved a UVA invite for 9/21. I am a minority... but OOS. They also have a history of liking people from my undergrad univ.

Pemberley said:Congratulations! I hadn't seen you on my search because you are listed under 2010 instead of 2007... ah, such a neat theory for why they hadn't liked me yet but would like me soon, totally blown apart.
And I think you have to take the border-liner off your sig now, because borderliners don't get interviews at UVa!![]()
Me neither. I think I am in the same boat with UT-H. They have now had multiple rounds of interviews since I submitted. I guess that statement about them not liking engineers is really true, although I noticed that WestTexasRambler was a business major (one of the other majors that UT-H says they look down upon,) so maybe they just didn't like my picture or something.Anastasis said:So You got an interview at UTSW with no letters of rec?

UTSA is perplexing to me, but I am holding out hope since it doesn't seem like they have invited for too many rounds of interviews yet.
When were you processed? My point was that I was processed on 6/21. I think lilTXcatMD may have even been a week earlier or so....windsen said:jota_jota, I too am eagerly waiting to hear from UT-H. I surprised to hear from UTSA given that so far it seems most of their invites have much better numbers than me. Hang in there. I'm sure you'll get that invite to both schools.
