I got a Southwestern invite too!! Kind of unexpected, I totally don't feel like I have the numbers for it 🙂 but i'm sooo not complaining!!

EDIT: Here's hope for others like me...I have a 3.64 and a 30 MCAT and I STILL got an interview 😉 Woo.

What is considered high MCAT and GPA? I got a 33 this past august and 4.0...but haven't received anything from them 🙁

The numbers I've seen thrown around were 31 MCAT and 3.6+ GPA for automatic invites from UTSW.

Wow, really? With those stats I dont know why you havent gotten one. That kind of scares me. Send your app in late or something?

Maybe (i'm just totally guessing here)...the "scoring" policy is only in effect at the beginning, when the school receives the first big blow of application. Of course, a second wave comes after the August MCAT, but you have to remember that at this point, UTSW is about halfway through interviews. They might blend the Aug. MCATers in with the applications that weren't "automatic invites" and look at them from a more wholistic level.

I'm an August MCATer..but my app was processed in June and secondary in August...I am a retaker...do you think UTSW averaged my MCAT scores rather than taking the highest one? 🙁
 
I think if you meet their cutoff GPA*10 + MCAT >~68ish then you will eventually get an invite if you are a resident. There is some X factor for interesting EC's like publications, minority, etc. This is just my impressions and I think this holds for most of the top 20 although the formulas differ. I think they said we will interview through the first week of January so you still have some time. Good luck.
 
ANy word from schools texas schools other than UTSW for august mcaters yet?
 
I'm one of those people who submitted back in June and hadn't heard from UTSW... until last night. WAHOO... average scores/grades as well. Maybe they are actually looking at the "non-automatic" people now.

Best yet.. its teh saturday b4 thanksgiving, so I can just take a whole week off of school and stay in the Big D. AWESOME

i just got the letter of acceptance from UTSW. I'm OOS and I interviewed on 9/16, so just relax, they actually are accepting people 🙂 I'm gonna go celebrate irresponsibly now...toodles.

When I talked to UTSW about retakes on the MCAT they said they dont average or take the best in each section. They look at both scores back to back and look for improvement.

Hmm..hopefully they see my 9 point improvement and grant me an interview! I will keep crossing my fingers!

I was an August retaker and have received interviews from Texas Tech and UTMB...still waiting to hear back from the other schools!

I don't want to ask if I stand a good chance for a TX school b/c I know sometimes it's just a shot in the dark. But any recommendations on how to further my chances?

Don't worry. My stats are pretty much like yours and I have had invites for both TCOM and UT-SW. Maybe grades aren't as critical after all...hopefully you had one kickass personal statement or LOR? 😉

yep, snail mail. normal sized envelope with only three sheets of paper, so don't freak out about the size once you get it, you might be pleasantly surprised.
 
15 days until Nov 15!

I counted down to Oct 15, and got... nothing! Just as Jota said would happen. 😛

I'm definitely not getting my hopes as high this time, or keeping the date in mind as much as I did the first time. Maybe they produce calm and efficient doctors by torturing all the emotional volatility out of us. (Before we're out there, we'll also have the MCAT countdown, 3x USMLE countdowns, match day countdown, residency countdown...) 😱
 
Did you guys call UTMB, UTH, and all the rest of the TExas schools to check your status? I really dont trust TMDAS even though they already have a date that they sent my apps out to schools.

Those schools really should have online status pages.

Actually, that's one thing that I wish I were wrong about. Quite honestly, while I knew that there wouldn't be very many early Baylor acceptances, I thought that there would be more on SDN than _2_ (...not that I'm counting or anything 😛 )

I'm with you in not keeping the date in mind very much, but I'm slightly more optimistic about 11/15 than 10/15. Let's all hang in there...

Tech has such an online status page, and A&M sends you emails when they receive your LORs and Secondary Fee. Calling couldn't hurt, however.

(I never called to check my status, except at Tech...where they had some stuff marked as not received that they should've received.)
 
UTMB freakin suck. Apparently UTMB stops interviewing mid november. I'm never gonna get an interview there, i dont even think they processed my main application yet. What a bummer.

After Vandy broke my heart I'm not getting my hopes up for this whole cycle.

I swear getting rejected from a med school you really like is worse than breaking up with a boy. 😡
 
Not according to their website, or the lady i talked to from their admissions office. Although the lady seemed pretty clueless about everything.
 
I took the MCAT in August. So far no interviews or rejections. My Baylor application website shows that the application has been reviewed. How long do I have to wait before I get an official rejection. If a rejection comes, is it an email or a nice thin $0.39 envelop?
 
I'm nervous about 11/15. I try not to think about it, to pretend it doesn't exist, so that I can cope until then without driving myself crazy.

Will we be getting e-mails? Phone calls? Snail mail?

I mean, what should I expect? I've had 4 interviews in TX, and so far Houston and Galveston continue to ignore me...well, so does Baylor but hey, that's Baylor and they have the right to ignore me.

Okay, back to pretending to study for a test that is supposed to start in about 1.5 hours.


PS to Anastasis: Our guys lost to your guys this past weekend. For a moment, we thought there was a tiny ray of hope when we were tied in the fourth quarter, and even for a moment contemplated ripping the goal posts once-again (you know, if we won). Too bad. Our football still sucks. Oh, and sorry to hear about Vandy. I'm sure somebody bigger and better will accept you though, then you can kick Vandy's butt.

You will not get a rejection from Baylor until May/June time frame.

Did Vandy reject you?!?!? Where have I been? and what have they been smoking?

That's okay, after Baylor and/or San Antonio have shown us the love, we can tell Vandy what to do with their ever-so-polite rejection letters.
