Actually, the 2005 test takers (class of 2007) passing percentage was 92% versus the national passing percentage of 93%. Their mean score was 219 vs. the national mean score of 217. Scores went up because many students took a course taught by a UTMB graduate (the same class taught at UTMB). I would not worry.

Hey cfk0006! Where did you get these numbers? I keep hearing 20 million different versions on UTH's step 1 scores.

Thanks!

Secret 😉 j/k. I have a friend that is a student there, so it is reliable.

Are there any websites that have objective comparisons of medical schools? I'm looking to compare Texas A&M and TCOM outside of the info they give you the day of the interview.

I wish we had 2nd look for the TX schools before we have to decide.

unless you are in love with the osteopathic philosophy go with a&m just because you will have an easier time getting into competitive residency programs.

well... unless you are trying to go into primary care, tcom is 28th in the nation for that.

I found this quote from one of the class threads in the Allo forums.

I found some data on UTH's average step 1 scores, and they're at least a bit concerning (especially when I think of UTMB's scores).

  • 2003: 91% passing (same as national average); average score 214 (national average 216)
  • 2004: 89% passing (national average 92%); average score 208 (national average 216)
  • 2005: 86% passing (national average 92%); average score 208 (national average 216)

The numbers are from these documents, for the citation-crazy among us 😉: http://www.med.uth.tmc.edu/dean/pdf/03 Faculty Mtg Handout-Final.pdf http://www.med.uth.tmc.edu/04 Faculty Meeting Handout-Final.pdf http://www.med.uth.tmc.edu/05 Faculty Meeting Handout.pdf

Sigh.......darn. Congrats though.

no worries...i think alot of people will be trying to decide between utsw and baylor, so as people start making decisions as to where they want to be, both schools will start sending more acceptances...hang in there.

Baylor Guy where in the allos did you find that? I would like to read some of the responses to that.

Good Job A&M. Boomer Sooner. 😀

Anastasis,

He thought the play was still alive and was treating Colt as a potential tackler. When we intercepted the ball Colt instantly became a defender. Heard was trying to clear the way for Dodge.

Unfortunately Dodge had fallen to the ground a full 5 seconds before Heard hit McCoy. Heard had no idea the play was over. Regardless he should have been ejected for such at atrociously late hit.

I'm an Old Ag, class of 2004, for the record, so you better realize that "we" includes me even if you disagree with me.

Heard totally knew that play was over and chose to take the hit anyway. Go back and watch the play. He was hyped up because it's a big game but it was still an unexcusable mental error. A&M is better than that; it seriously made me ill to then see the two commercials for Texas A&M in the break right after that. Bush chose us because of our integrity... wow, what are we showing to the world now?

I guess I just remember the last time we beat Texas (right after Bonfire). Everyone was happy for us then, even the longhorns though they'd never admit it. This wasn't the way I wanted us to win this time.

I'm class of '02 for the record.

We will have to agree to disagree on whether Kellen knew the play was over.

Congrats on all your application success btw.👍

👍 So I got a scholarship letter from Tech today! The initial acceptance letter didn't say anything and my stats aren't that impressive so I wasn't expecting anything.

Nice suprise. Let's hope the other schools follow suit!

If you don't mind me asking how much was it? I got one too but it's heading home and I won't be able to see it. My stats aren't that impressive either.

Game wasn't as clean as I would like but both sides' got to win their share to make it a rivalry.

Hopefully Colt's ok, he was down for a LOONNNG time.

And go OSU!!! 😀

It was there average scholarship/grant they give out (see MSAR for actual $ value). Speaking of - it would seem that TX A&M hands out the largest scholarship $$$ - according to MSAR.

Of course full ride would be nice but I'll take half ride at instate prices 🙂

Could you send me a PM with an actual #? I searched their websites and they have tons of different scholarships of differing amounts.

PM sent.

What does it matter? You already seem like quite the Southwestern fan-girl 🙂

What do you guys think the chances are that the schools will be making additional prematch offers?

I've decided UTMB over A&M, but I don't know if I should send my UTMB accept position letter yet, the letter says that we have till Jan 15, but should try to reply ASAP.

I don't want to be locked in if something else shows up prematch that would sway me, like money + acceptance from UTSW or UTH.

You will not be locked in if you accept the offer now. You will still be able to give it up if "something better" comes along.

Just filled out my acceptance letter for my top choice, and declined the other two.

Ags won in Austin, I'm going to medical school next year, life doesn't get much better.

I want a sweatshirt badly....😳

Would I be a total fool if I wore it to class before graduation?

To answer my own question: yes I would.

I probably will wait until I'm actually in medschool to wear it, I don't want to get beat up by the big kids.

I take that edited post to mean that AggieJohn has decided where he's going 😉

I'm not quite quick enough to edit it! 🙂 lol

Yeah, I went home over the holidays and discussed all the pro's and con's with my family and fiancée and I've decided, barring an unlikely acceptance to Baylor, that I'll be living in Dallas this time next year.

EDIT: apparently, your 'fiance' is the man you plan to marry; your 'fiancee' (or 'fiancée') is the woman you plan to marry. Had to clean up that mistake 🙂

lol - well now I know the difference... though I have neither so it's not all that relevant to me 😉

And don't give me this unlikely acceptance bull. You know you're getting into Baylor!

Are we supposed to get any packet in snail mail for Tech? I have only received the acceptance email and besides that I have received nothing else.

I seriously wouldn't give up on Baylor yet. I think that they are being slow this year for some reason, since very few people overall have posted Baylor acceptances on SDN, and by now, the pace should've picked up. So, it looks like, for whatever reason, things are just going slower there this year.

Odd that so few people have heard anything... it'll be interesting to see what happens when.

I've heard quite a few people get accepted by Baylor. They're just not on SDN - yes I know, it's hard to imagine. My face was like 😱

I got mine over the weekend.... give it a few days.

Is anyone planning to take a second look at the schools before January 15th? During my interview day both Southwestern and Houston said to call them if we wanted to come back. Has anyone called already to see if they have certain things planned? What do you think is possible to get out of a second look besides visiting classes and maybe talking to a few students?

I am for sure. I can't remember much about the schools since I interviewed in august. If you just call them I believe they will set up another tour or something for you. If you are not sure about the school, seeing it again may help.

So, governmental paperwork and red tape is not one of my favorite things.
Can someone try to explain something to me about FAFSA? please😳 i know its annoying.

So, my situation is that I am NOT going to be taking out loans, but it seems that in order to receive scholarships/grants (some need-based, others not) from some TX schools, you need to fill out the FAFSA form.

Now I thought the whole idea of FAFSA was to figure out how much you money you can get loaned to you.

How do I go about filling out this form if I'm not looking for a loan, but rather an opportunity for the schools "to assess my financial situation"?
