🙂 I think I might have this LMFU thing figured out 🙄

I'm a little unique in that I only interviewed at 2 Texas schools, A&M and TCOM. My LMFU was close to my submit date (1st day) until 2 weeks after my TCOM interview - July 27th, or when they said they would make their committee decision. I was accepted on the Nov. 15th and 2 days after I mailed in my acceptance my LMFU changed again. It appears TCOM is on the ball and using the system as designed.

I interviewed at A&M on Aug. 24th and they said they were going to committee that week. I did not get a LMFU change, and I did not get an acceptance on Nov. 15th even though my interviewers said I had a great shot. Now I get a LMFU update, meaning someone updated something, and the only suspect is A&M. Since it is too early for a rejection I assume/hope it is an acceptance for Wednesday. I will let you know if I'm right in a few days.

So it appears that your LMFU is updated when you get an acceptance and when a school enters your accept/decline. The dates correspond to how fast the schools process your acceptance post committee meeting, how early they want to inform you (1st, 2nd, or 3rd prematch round), and how soon they enter your decision to that acceptance.

Then again I am an optimist and it could just be hopefull thinking 🙂

Just out of curiosity, how would you guys rank the Texas medical schools? I just want to know based on individual experiences with interviews, etc. I also don't know what the 'official' rankings are, I just know what is considered by most to be the order based on the usual stats (research).

oh this can of worms again

Baylor =><? UTSW, UTH=><?UTMB=<>?UTSA, Texas tech<>=?A&M.

That's the general consensus. The =<>? basically means its argued which is better, worse, or equal.

ok thanks! i know it's a commonly asked question, but for some reason i've been trying to do the search forum thingy and it hasn't been working for me. sorry bout that.

There are some comparisons on this thread, another in a thread a couple pages back about UTH and UTMB, and then the class threads in allo have some comparison.

im still confused about what is going to happen by jan 15..... where do we make our final decision about what school we want? i've asked people and they say on the tmdsas website... but will they update the website to include a page for choosing which med school you want of the ones that you were invited to? because currently i see no place to do that? anyone know?

Why do you say Wednesday??? Is that the next time they are sending out acceptances?

Good luck either way!!! :luck: :luck:

If you are holding multiple acceptances, you choose one. If you have no schools that you want to go to where you interviewed at but did not get accepted, then yes you are more or less making a final decision.

(unless you pick one and then decide later afterwards that you want an acceptance that you turned down or one that you interviewed at but not accepted)

If you have one where you interviewed at, but didn't get accepted, and it's your top choice, then you really aren't making your final decision in Jan. You are making a decision basically for your #2 school. Then you put all your chips in the pot and gamble in February for your top choice.

My LMFU finally changed to 12/11. Those of you that now have a LMFU of 12/11, did you guys interview everywhere or is it a possibility that it is just because a school that you haven't interviewed at is about to send out rejection letters like UTMB earlier. The only place I didn't interview was SA so I am thinking that may be the reason for the change?

My LMFU changed from 10/17 to 12/04, and I interviewed at Tech on 11/29... so I thought that was a good sign... Turns out, I got a rejection letter from UTMB this weekend that was dated 12/04!!! After I received the rejection letter, I ranked my schools on the TMDSAS website. My LMFU changed to 12/11, and I think that is reflective of me ranking the schools over the weekend.

Well done on this thread people, 131K views!!!

Got an acceptance e-mail from UTH on Friday afternoon!!! yippeeee. 😀 For everyone worried about the LMFU, I got my acceptance on 12/8 and my LMFU (which I checked today...and just about every day in the past week) was updated 12/11. Soooo, I'm not sure how much validity there is to the "LMFU myth".

whoa. i'm in your boat and i checked my LMFU and it changed today too! before my LMFU was set at a date when my LORs were received, and it never changed even after i got my interviews at TCOM and A&M. good lord, i hope it's an acceptance but now i'm worried it's a rejection... (funny how you're the optimist and i'm the pessimist)

Just got a UTSW invite for Jan 6th. So I guess they're still going out.

Congrats!! I noticed you really wanted one. I really want one too. I work at UTSW and haven't gotten any love yet. Just got another letter sent from one of the UTSW gods so I'm hopin' and hopin'

Baylor > UTSW > UTMB > UTH = UTSA > A&M = Tech

I'm mostly ranking from an academic standpoint, and not based upon location, etc.

Baylor > UTSW > UTMB > UTH = UTSA > A&M = Tech

Baylor > UTSW > UTMB = UTH = UTSA > A&M = Tech

Baylor > UTSW > UTMB > UTH = UTSA > A&M = Tech

I'm mostly ranking from an academic standpoint, and not based upon location, etc.

Baylor > UTSW > UTH = UTSA > UTMB > A&M = Tech

This is my opinion with academics and location. IMHO I would say that UTH might be a little better than UTSA with location factored into the equation since UTH is in the TMC.

Interesting theory. Hope you are correct. I just got my LMFU changed to 12/11. I'm in a similar boat as you. I interviewed at TCOM, TAMU, and also UTSA. Got a TCOM acceptance and that seemed to be updated very promptly on my LMFU. But now I have a 12/11 update and hopefully it means another acceptance. Of course from reading other people's reponses, it might mean a UTMB rejection. who knows.

Not sure if this is what you meant but if you decide to rank another school besides the one you got an acceptance at as your top choice, you will still get your acceptance even if the top choice passes you over. If your top choice school matches with you, it will release your acceptance at the other school. At least that was my understanding after my interviews.

Baylor > UTSW > UTMB = UTH = UTSA > A&M = Tech
lol no one loves A&M. which as it turns out is good for me. hahaha.

oh and i just realized, after reading a few other replies, the LMFU could be the UTMB rejection, but i haven't gotten that yet. oh LMFU what are you?

I think you meant the 13th and 20th Chris?

If you got into Baylor, would you go there over UTSW? Just curious, or have you cemented plans for Dallas?

Also, EternalRage, you need to decide. I want to know if you'll be a classmate or not 😉 j/k

12/11 LMFU and I have an acceptance at UTMB...so hopefully it doesn’t mean you guys are receiving a rejection

I think you meant the 13th and 20th Chris?

Thats what I meant 😀 Here is the email from A&M:

Acceptance letters were distributed via email and U.S. Postal mail. A second and third mailing will take place December 13th & December 20th.
Have a pleasant day.

TinyT, did you interview at TAMU or TCOM, beacause if you did, then this might mean that an LMFU of 121106 is an acceptance from one of those schools. That or it means absolutely nothing and the folks at TMDSAS just randomly change them to screw with our minds. What'd be the best is if the dates started regressing. Oh TMDSAS why do you torture us so..?!

So does this mean you've come to a SA-vs-H resolution?

12/11/06 LMFU and I interviewed at TAMU. However, I didnt interview at that many texas schools, so it's probably a rejection that I am expecting from alot of the UT schools soon.

congrats on the acceptance!! did you get the email like just now or back in november??

Location is such a subjective thing that if we all ranked taking location into account, the rankings would all be different and therefore pretty much worthless. When I talk about location, I'm not talking about facilities/clinical training. If you say that UTH has better clinical training because of the TMC and that the location is better because it is where the TMC is, then you're giving double credit to the TMC.

Very true... for myself, I would never choose living in Houston over living in San Antonio, all other factors being equal.

But as Baylor and UTHSCSA aren't exactly fighting over me (and UTH didn't even interview me), that will have to remain a hypothetical. 😳

That's a question that I ask myself pretty much every day these days, and I really don't know. Dallas has some advantages (specific to me) that Houston does not, but they will probably not matter.

I'm also looking at the bigger picture. Baylor may actually be a better place to do a residency or wind up working (I've always been considering a career as an academic physician, because I want to do research as well as clinical work) and it is true that academic institutions generally don't like to hire their own young (though it obviously happens.)

<shrug> So, I really don't know.

EDIT: The funny thing is that had you asked me that question a few months ago, the answer would've been a resounding yes. However, I was so impressed (pleasantly surprised?) with UTSW when I interviewed, that it leveled the two in my eyes. I DID read some of your comments a few pages back, and I realize that I might've caught the school/students on a GOOD day. I'm almost tempted to agree with eternalrage that the two MIGHT be considered equal, but in terms of research funding, etc, Baylor is still WAY ahead of UTSW, so I believe Baylor to be the better school.

Hmmm... I knew that was true of pure academia but I didn't realize it was true for medicine as well.

I was thinking about trying to stay in Houston for residency too (or if I rock the boards, maybe try for Parkland?) But it just seems so far down the line. I'm just trying to find the motivation to finish up my pre-recs

Yup, I really like SA too. I've toyed with ranking UTSA first and UTSW second in the match, to "see what happens," but I think that would probably be foolish. It's most likely going to be UTSW, with a possible Baylor acceptance being the wildcard in all of this.

I got the UTMB rejection letter today but LMFU wasn't updated (still 11/16/06) so hmmph

We're looking at that possibility as well. It comes down to personal factors, not an evaluation of the schools... presence of family & friends, prospects for having children, existence of good jobs for my husband.

It's tough to turn down UTSW's caliber, that's for sure. I might feel like an idiot. But then when I'm studying at UTSW surrounded by 20-year-olds who all majored in biochemistry and don't have families to worry about, I might feel even more like an idiot.

so would most of y'all take UTSW over UTH? i haven't been accepted, but i'm hoping i get to make that choice

That's the match day specifics. I was telling him what choosing an acceptance in January ultimately boils down to - either you are picking your top choice or your second. It's more or less a final decision on the applicants part in the former.

don't worry, UTSW attracts a lot of book-studying people, i'm sure you won't feel like an idiot

Well I had pretty much settled on Houston and then the big cahuna came knocking on my gmail door today so I dunno.

Thanks for all the peeps saying congrats. I am happy but also stressed and feeling the pressure and also nervous.

Depends what aspect of research you're talking about. UTSW trumps Baylor in basic research and is absolutely huge in the field of metabolism. And it has the best MSTP program in the state with a rising national reputation, if that means anything to you guys. Usually I roll my eyes when UTSW brags about its 4 Nobel Laureates, but it does speak to the strength of the program that it has so many nationally recognized faculty/alumni names... the Nobel winners (IMO another scientist here is destined for one), the boatload of NAS/AAS/etc members http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/utsw/home/about/awards/index.html, many more than all the TMC institutions combined. Also, from the UTSW site:

Has anyone heard any good news with a 12/8 LMFU?

Thanks & good luck to everyone!

turns out i got a UTMB rejection letter, so that may explain the LMFU update. shrugs.

I got one too. But it was dated 12/4 and my LMFU is 12/11. Not sure what the correlation is (if any).

I was mostly referring to NIH funding:

Wow, glad to see this thread still claiming the top of Pre-allo forum. I just got into China a few days ago. Hope everyone is still doing well and racking up the acceptances! I'll be withdrawing from UTH and UTMB =( soon so hopefully someone here will get it. =)

Good Luck guys!

I try to stay updated on this forum, but it's so hard in China considering right now I live in an underdeveloped region where both the internet and clean public restrooms are few and far between.

I got an interview invite from UTSW today for Jan 6th! We'll see you there Eternal Rage in < 30 days! Can someone tell I'm really excited about this 😀
