I accepted an interview at UTHSCSA. Problem is that I'm having second thoughts about San Antonio. I have nothing against the school. It's just that there won't be very many opportunities for my husband to do what he wants there.

Should I just go to the interview? Or cancel the interview? How bad is that?

I've got 8 invites total with my AMCAS app already and am beginning to feel the stress. I just got the UTH invite and I would much rather go there as there are degree programs for him at Rice.

I guess I kinda already know the answer, but just wondering anyways.

If you don't think you'll end up going there if you're accepted, there's no point in attending the interview. On the other hand, you may want to check it out, maybe you'll be surprised. Even if it does reflect poorly on you to cancel, who cares, since you won't be going.

How are you surviving?
 
It seems like San Antonio has been quiet lately...at least for SDN'ers. My LMFU just changed early this week for the first time since 6/15. I of course have no idea what that means.
 
UTSA's the wildcard, especially for my stat-heavy EC-lite self. One of their adcom members straight up told us during a conference that if you received an invite it wasn't going to be based on numbers.
 
That seems odd to me that SA would take that approach for their invites. There seem to be some pretty strong statistics on the SA list here on SDN...but it IS SDN. 😉
 
Oh yeah, totally, but that may be b/c those with the high stats also have great accomplishments.
 
During the interview for San Antonio they tell you how they pick what people they want for interviews. They look at academics first, to see if you can handle the academic load. Then they look to see if they think that you have qualities/expericences that it takes to be a good doctor. It was a much more detailed explantion during the interview. You would be surpprised in how indepth they go on everyones apps, definately not just numbers. Also about 50% of those that matriculated are non traditional students, which definately explains why they look at more than GPA and MCAT.

To the guys interviewing/interviewed at Houston, do you have information about staying with a student and the social? I'd like to know as soon as possible before the airfare gets too much.

Same here. Haven't heard anything. And this might be a weird question, but for the picture that you send to UTH, are you guys just sending them the one that you gave to TMDSAS?
 
If UTH gives you an interview invitation, you have to send them a photo? Why is that? Just curious.

Yeah... they are, dunno why UTH wants it again. I e-mailed confirming my interview, but didn't receive an e-mail in return acknowledging they got my e-mail. Anyone else with a UTH invite get a response after confirmation or are we to assume they got it?

Any news on whether Baylor sent out their second round of invites, or if they haven't when they will? I am waiting anxiously :F
 
i just wanted to come back and say that it's so cute when i see interviewees walking through the halls or sitting in on our cell science class (for now). that was me a year ago! good luck everyone and if you have any questions about TCOM or applying to TX schools in general, shoot me a PM.

i confirmed earlier this week and haven't heard back saying that they received my acceptance of the interview or from the housing/social people

All I know is they only sent out invites for their first date (9/7) about a week ago. Oddly enough, I rescheduled and the first date they could give me was 9/21. Seems to me like they've already made a decision about invites for 9/14 but are waiting....
 
9/7 cant be the first date cuz i have an interview at UT-Houston on 8/29, unless they're just playing a really sick joke on me

Looks like UTSA's moving. I've received a letter dated August 7th, verified 6/20. (No LMFU update, by the way).

I had intervieewed at TCOM 7/31, UTMB 8/10, A&M 8/16. Haven't heard from anyone else.
 
for everyone who applied to UTMB, did you guys get an email from them saying that they recieved your stuff through tmdsas? one of my friends who was only verified couple days ago got that email, but i was verified a week and half ago, but no email from them. i did recieve an email from tech for their eraider account, and southwestern that they received the apps.

No, I didn't get a confirmation e-mail from them.

is this what ur baylor status page says???

"Your application is complete and has been reviewed by the committee.
We will let you know something as soon as we are able.


Baylor College of Medicine interviews from September through February.
Records are updated every 24 hours."
 
That's what it said before I received an invite, then it changed to a status page showing received transcripts. I believe that message is standard regardless of upcoming invite/reject.

Hey doods, I just got back from my UTMB interview. It was super chill. The students all say it's a great first interview to have and it was their most relaxed interview when they applied. So if you're heading to UTMB soon, no worries! They have a pretty sweet curriculum as well.

For those of you who have been to the San Antonio interview, was it worth it to go to the social? I went to UTMB's social and I didn't find it too useful, so should I expect the same of UTSA?
 
I enjoyed it quite a bit actually. It was a pretty good turn out, and I thought it was cool to get a taste of what San antonio students were like. But I dont think that it is useful or helpful. You have plenty of time the next day to ask questions to medical students, like during the lunch or in between their classes. By the time I got to my interview I had actually ran out of questions to ask, because I had them all answered earlier.🙂

The social was alright. It wasn't very structured or anything, you kind of just sit and have to find people to talk to. So if you like that sort of thing, and you have questions to ask, it would be helpful.

At San Antonio, one thing to be careful with is that med students DO actually do a lot of the interviews. And the students at the social and the students who are giving you the tour could very well be the ones who interview you. It happened to two girls in my tour group (our tour guide ended up interviewing both of them). Now that can be good or bad, just keep it in mind.
