I'm right there with ya. We still have a lot of time letf. Maybe its time for both of us to get off this forum and try not to check our email 10 times a day or this forum huh? that might make this easier

Just got my first two interviews lined up! Galveston and Southwest.

Anyway I probably have a dumb question. What is the dress code for the optional UT Southwest Friday presentation? Just wondering... I assume it's just like for the interview but my parents are giving me a hard time about it, saying it's probably more casual.

Stay positive. From what I have heard, some with semi-early apps last year received interviews later in the season. :luck:

Not a dumb question at all. When I went, I was under the impression that it would be casual, but my jaw practically dropped when I entered the room. Pretty much everyone was dressed as if they were interviewing that day, except for a few people like myself. I asked one of the people at the front desk when I came in whether the event was casual or formal, and she said casual, so my advice to you is to wear what makes you comfortable. If I had to do it again, I would still show up in jeans and a T-shirt 😀

i am considering taking january mcat, just in case if waitlisted or if i need it for 2013 cycle. but i will only really consider this if i dont have a single interview after oct. 15
 
Someone please tell me I have a shot at a couple more interviews in TX (if you really believe so, that is). I got an interview invite from A&M on 7/26 for 8/9, but haven't heard anything since. I have a 3.74 and a 28P.

I was processed on 6/20, but my MCAT score did not reach TMDSAS before 7/9. Does that mean I was effectively processed/complete only on 7/9?

Come on friends, give me some hope...but be honest.

ah. my LORs were in just a day or two before yours, and I JUST got interviews. hang in there.

It's still early. Try not to worry too much yet...I know that's easier said than done! I personally think you still have a good chance. 🙂 Plus I think that schools like UTMB, UTH, and UTSW are busy interviewing those super outstanding applicants right now. If it makes you feel any better...last cycle I didn't receive my UTSW invite until at least a month and a half after my others.
 
Another quick question...

Although I haven't sent in a secondary application for Southwest I've got an interview invite. Should I quickly get that secondary app in before the interview or just ignore it since I already got an interview scheduled.

Btw, how did the people who have already interviewed at UTSW interviews go?
 
For those of us who are still waiting for interviews, if we dont get any before nov 15 does that significantly decrease our chances of getting accepted?

I would say it would definitely decrease your chances. Not many people with late interviews were accepted last cycle.

you could never go wrong with khakis and a polo. untuck it for more casual, tuck it in for more business.

Well, I think their original intention was for interviewees to be dressed casually, (they mentioned it once during the intro and I also asked the lady at the front desk), but then again a lot of people dressed up (some in their Sunday best and others in full interview attire, mainly the guys) probably because they did not know and figured it would be the appropriate thing to do. I had my doubts as well, but I still showed up in jeans. Anyhow, knowing that the majority of applicants are highly likely to dress up, you can dress up if it makes you more comfortable, or just dress casually like I did. I don't think it will hurt you if you do show up in casual clothing (at least I hope it won't, or I'm screwed haha), so like I said before, do whatever makes you comfortable.

They emphasized that their interviews are supposed to be "zero stress," and that seemed to be the case for most people. For me, I got grilled about ethics and healthcare, so I think it just depends on your luck.

As for the secondary question, they didn't bring it up at my interview, but I would just go ahead and get it done anyway since it's pretty quick, plus you'll have a peace of mind. 🙂
 
you really don't need to dress up for the Friday dinner, although your surroundings might be a little fancy. most UTSW students you'll be meeting will be dressing normally, so I reckon you should do the same. If you're worried it'll affect how you'll be seen, don't... no one really cares. good luck this weekend.
 
So I have had my app together for a while, but I have been waiting on LOR from a prof. He just sent it in on tuesday (9-4). Im 3.75/33 with solid research exp (ie, 3 yrs) and some (albeit limited) clinical exp. Any chance of an interview at this point??????? I am applying MD/PhD...

Why do they even bother having an oct 1 deadline if they dont give out interviews for apps submitted before the deadline?

We will let you know something as soon as we are able."

for well over a month now, would it be ok to call and ask about the decision on my application?

haha. .. .do it and tell me what happens. i have the same status.

i actually think that they keep people on hold for a while to compare to other applicants that they get. i don't know if a final decision has been made.

I wouldn't call. I mean, I have no doubt they will let you know something as soon as they can. That message means they just haven't come to a decision yet. No worries, I had that message for a while and then I got an invite! It's early, give them a bit more time.

I wore a button down that I'd rolled up the sleeves too, and a pair of nice slacks...I think that's about as dressy as you need to be. I had called the office before the session, and she said business casual, so that's why I wore what I did. I distinctly remember there being a guy in a pink tshirt and jeans though...it was pretty awesome.

One interviewer is blinded (only the PS) and the other is not. Both were really chill. By that, I don't mean that they didn't ask important/pointed questions, or that I slacked off in my answering...rather, they were friendly rather than antagonistic. Basically, if you know your stuff, you should have no problem...the SDN interview profiles are really helpful tho.

Quick question about rescheduling interviews.

So I have a UTMB interview on 9/28, but I just got a UTSW interview on 9/29. I don't see any options for rescheduling UTMB so I can either reschedule UTSW or I can just power through it and fly back and forth. So my question is this: how adversely will moving my UTSW interview from 9/29 to 10/6 be in terms of chances of getting a pre-match offer?

Did anyone else notice that the eraider acount at Tech has a section for software downloads... including stuff like XP and Office 2007?

On a side note, did anyone get an e-mail from UTMB inviting you to apply to the MD/PhD program? I just got one today but I already applied (for MD) and interviewed there...it seems kind of random... ??>:|

I checked on my Tech status today and saw that one thing was wrong on my info so I called them to make them aware of it. While on the phone I asked about my new MCAT and if they received it about 3 weeks ago and the lady was like yeah we have your old one and ohhh there is a new one here, and she said she was going to make the committee aware of this. I thought they were supposed to do this automatically? Anyone else have this problem? She went on to apologize that they hadn’t noted the new one sooner and I was like well as long as its good now. I'm wondering how common this is... I'm a little pissed because the difference between the old and new MCAT for me is 7 points.
 
I know you shouldn't ask a school at this point in the process whether you have been granted an interview or not, but I did. It took LOTS of guts and courage. I didn't ask Baylor, but another school. (I'd rather not say which school, but I really wanted an invitation from them.) The guy I contacted was REALLY nice about it! I actually had an interview invitation coming my way so I called prematurely. But hey, at least I didn't have to wait until interview invitations were issued to find out that I was good enough for their school!

Not to sound to paranoid here...but I might be careful about downloading Tech's licensed software. I'm no IT wiz here but don't they log your IP address when you download big ticket software suites? I just think it would be a pisser for someone to find out nonstudents are plucking software off their servers.

Also - don't you need a key to unlock office? Just things to think about, feel free to blow me off.

I would worry, but they specifically have an account type called "TTUHSC - Applied Students". If they allow those account users (namely, us) to download various things...I think they're OK with it.
