Just back from the dentist and lets say I have a lot of cavities. It must be all that coffee and Dr. Pepper from studying late into the night after brushing. I have also really been grinding my teeth. Man... I am not in medical school yet, and I am realizing if I want to keep my teeth for the next 60+ years, I am going to have to make some drastic changes. Good thing I am not pe-dent. I would not be a good example to my patients.

STAC... I guess I mean I need to start wearing my mouth guard or I am going to wear away all my teeth and will become the toothless doctor. Actually, I have a really nice smile due to childhood braces, but I didn't realize all my late night study sessions of caffeine were not also causing knowledge to multiply but also sugary tooth decay.

It is really cold here. I really don't eat much except for cereal or coffee for breakfast, but there is a place starting a chain called Rosa's Cafe and Tortilla Factory that you can find in West Texas, the Panhandle, and the Metroplex. It is the best thing, if you have never eaten there before.

Here is link to their locations.

http://rosascafe.net/locations.htm

Really good food for a really low price. However, I am ready for this cold weather to pass by because it makes me feel lazy being kept inside.

Where is this place opening up?

I guess I will only be close to one if I get in at either Tech, TCOM or UTSW, but I bet they will spread to other Texas locations soon. I don't know where else they are openning locations at, but if you email them you might get an answer in a month or so if they are planning to open one up close to your home.

If any one is in san antonio, I think that the best place for outstanding tex mex/mexican is Tomatilla's on broadway. Its great food, lots of room adn not to expensive.

and if you like pizza... the best place is Naples on Huebner. It is *so* worth the trip there...

I've had a couple of requests to set up another Houston get together. How's pizza again sound to ya'll? on a Friday? Lemme know if there's interest! You can PM me.

OK, first of all, this thread was buried way too far back. Let's keep it alive, folks!

Second, when oh when will the Baylor magic that has worked for so many of these posters work for me? I am still desparately waiting to hear from Baylor. Just this evening I had to drop $1,000 to take 2 bio courses at UH Clear Lake so that I can meet the bio req for the UT schools (I had only taken 2 bio courses in undergrad, since nowhere else required more, and I was a physics major). Do you think I should try to contact someone in the office and let them know of this huge financial deadline? I have until Friday to withdraw from those classes and still get a refund. Otherwise, I'm out a thousand bucks. If so, anyone know who I should talk to?

Is Trauma_junky around? I haven't seen him in awhile. Hope things are ok.

Got my fingers crossed for you ms. a. I hope baylor calls you this week.

Random thought: I really liked the fact that you get to wear a long white coat as a UTSW student and this is one of the factors on which I'm basing my rankings on. I reeeally feel that the short white coat is dorky.

hey all,

i'm having a tough time choosing which school to rank higher: UTMB or A&M...

does anyone have any advice?

thanx...

well if you're having trouble choosing between the schools just try to decide where you would be happier over the next 4 years. neither is in a big town but galveston and college station arent really similar either.

A&M:
aggies (love 'em or hate 'em)
large college sports
college town atmosphere
huge student population
cows

galveston:
small beach town
not much else to do....plenty of time to study
fish
houston is just up the road
...

obviously you have a much more intimate opinion of each of the 2 locations (since i couldnt attend my UTMB interview and ive only visited friends at A&M) but that may get you started on the right track 🙂

good luck!

I'm at UTMB. I ranked it #1 because everyone seemed happy when I interviewed. And lo' and behold, I'm one happy fat **** here in Galveston smiling my fat face through Labor and Delivery.

Galveston is a small town, but as students at UTMB there're plenty of happy days.

Uhhh YO!!! Ya betta make up ya mind!!! TODAY is the Day! All fate has been sealed!!!

Too late to make up your mind...... the TX schools send in thier match lists today. But, you all have to wait a few more weeks to find out.

I've made a screen name change. Should be easy enough to figure out since I didn't change my avatar or sig., for those who already know me. 😎

anyone dream last night that they messed up their TMDSAS ranking and now it's too late to change it? Funny little points of anxiety in this process...

Good luck to everyone applying this year! I hope we see lots of happy posts on feb 1st!

Where have you been? I know I am asking this question and heading to bed, but I think there was a post somewhere about someone wanting to know about you. Can't tell you where, but I think there is one somewhere. Where did you end up interviewing?

yay! I love this thread.

Yeah, trauma_junky, where you been?

I'm so glad to be in Texas right now. Feeling sorry for all my friends who live further north and are freezing their butts off! :meanie:

Tomorrow night! In the past couple of years it seems to be getting posted a couple of hours early. Since its on the weekend, on a Saturday night, whoever is in charge of this probably doesn't want to wait till midnight to do this so, we'll all get on about 9pm tomorrow and start checking...

Good thing is we'll have the comfort of everyone here in SDN to keep us calm🙂 🙂 🙂

Blue skies and 60 degrees in SA! But the mountain cedar is killing me!!!😉 😉 😉

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. I miss SA.

*sniff* And Central Market... and and Naples, and Tomatillas and Zushi sushi. *sniff*

And I am not allergic to cedar.

And I miss rampant spurs adoration.

I figure it is controlled by a computer by now.

True...but the schools already know who their students are for next year, but they are all sworn to secrecy. They already know who matched.

When did the schools find out. Right after 1/15 or over the last few days?

it seems rather cruel that if they already know, the schools already know, and the list is ready...that they have to make anxious premeds wait until 2 weeks later to find out... 🙄 bureaucracy. 🙄

Spumi, you've been accepted outta state already...what will you do if you match in TEXAS? Evo I thoughts has been accepted along with some others...what are y'alls plans if Texas works out?

If I remembered correctly, Spumoni was already accepted by Baylor since fall 2003. She is just taking a seat from one of us Baylor rejects. Matching with a TMDSAS school is just another ego trip for these gunners.

You people who have already been accepted by Baylor should just contact TMDSAS so that they can exclude you from the match... more room for us under achievers.

LOL. just kidding!!! 😀

dON'T DIE...DON'T GET bURRIED!

bUMP NIGHT!!

Just wanted to say I know how nervous many of you must be. I was in your shoes 2 years ago and almost could not bear the torture of counting down the days, hours and finally minutes.

Good luck to each of you, and remember to hang in there as you go through the rough and tumble world of med school.

Hopefully, I will be allowed to write the same thing to future SDNer's.

Helloew! Well I have been very busy working and putting together a plan B. Working 911 again is killing me, and dealing with some of the so called ethical adcoms, has realy made me question my calling. But, Every now and again I am reaffirmed. We had this narcotic overdose I took into the hospital the other day. The narcan I gave him put him into acute withdraw and then he started to crater. No on in the ER could intubate him, accept me 😀 .

Sorry I havn't been to any of the get togethers, work and family are my priorities right now (in reverse order) For those of you wondering, I interviewed at TAMU, and was told I would interview at UTSA, but it did not happen. So I am singing the War Hymn a lot these days.

I hate to feel like its now or never, but with a family and being 27, I feel it is kind of the case. If I don't match, I'll wait untill the kids are in school to try again. I will also try and get my MCAT above a 30.

Between waiting for the match, financial strains, and the passing of my grandfather, these past couple of days have been very stressful. I stayed up talking to my close friends Jack, Jim, and Johnny the other night. Everything went fine untill Jose showed up, he never knows when to quit... hehehe.

Good luck to everyone out there! Remember, the best med school out there, is the one that accepts you!

Anyone know what the average stats are for out of staters that got accepted into Southwestern? I interviewed there (I'm from CA) and it's my first choice for the match. I have this fear that all the in state acceptees have 3.5's, 30's while all the out of state acceptees have 4.0s, 36+ on the MCATs leaving me in the dust.

I have a feeling that this thread is going to explode come tomorrow....🙂

I wish I could join in on the excitement!!! (but sadly, I did not apply to any UT schools...🙁 )

Good luck all!

-Ice

Good luck everyone on the Texas Match. I have learned so much by hearing all of your school feedback.

Unfortunately, I'll be MCATing again and reapplying (but early in the cycle, not August).

My friends who were accepted to SW last year all had MCAT scores above 35 and very high GPA's and they are all native Texans. Being an out-of-stater, you have to be more competitive--but not because you're compteing with the in-staters. You're competing with the other out-of-staters and because there are much fewer spots for out of staters you have to have higherscores compared to the average. Also, TX schools generally only take out-of-staters with a connection to the state--1) you're from TX but did undergrad out of state and claimed that state as residency or 2) you were an out-of-stater and went to undergrad in TX. Having family in the state is sometimes a connection but not generally a strong one unless you lived here at some point in your life. Still, you never know what the ADCOM is thinking. It's always really random. Good luck. i'm sure you will do fine.
