Thanks Texas1111, im on 9/13. Heard a lot of good things about UTSW, and I have a couple friends of mine that go there, so cant wait to see it in person,

UTSA tomorrow! 😱 Tee hee...any advice? How long did you stay...how many interviews?😎

For UT-SA there were two interviews starting after lunch. I stayed until 4:00 or so. Good luck!

Thanks for the info!🙂

Hey 2cents,

I'm really freaked 😱 out cuz of your interview experienceat UTSA ...could you like maybe hint to who you had?? in case i have to mentally...and physically prepare myself if i get him? :scared: :wow:

sweet...thanks!

Hey guys, just had UTSA today. Don't know how Dustin & Jay Zee did, but both my interviewers were very nice and more of the "getting to know you" type. Got to talk to a ton of students, including MS IV's, which is cool. Overall good experience!

Theresa

From your experiences, what would be some good questions to ask about the school during the interview??

oh man this is getting frustrating....congrats to those who have received and gone to their respective interviews...I wish you the best of luck 🙂

however, i still to this day only have UT-Houston, I haven't heard from any other school at all and I am a TX resident. My sent out date for TMDSAS was 7/30, do you think I should phone or email each school just to confirm whether or not they have my application or not and respective secondary materials?

cheers and best of luck to everyone.....

Hey Echo... not sure about your question. But I know that everyone that I have been interviewing with got all their stuff in really early. I think most of us had our files complete and secondaries finished in way early June. I am sure you will get more interviews its just that at the time you submited there were probably a billion apps coming in at the same time. Hang in there and good luck at Houston ( i loved the school. and I got to see open heart surgery).

Theresa - glad to hear UTSA went so well. I thought the students were great and the school was really impressive too. Def went way up on my list. Interviews went great, maybe one of the best days yet. Both of the interviewers were nice and easy to talk to. One was a little hard to read, but then at the interview he said some really nice things about me.

And now tonight I am off to Tech. Hope to be seeing some of you SDNers there and GOOD LUCK!

For anyone who want so say hi at techt tomorrow, my name is Ted and I'm 6'6", 220 (hard to miss). Good luck.

hey dustin thanks for the response, yeah i'll wait a week or two more then i'll probably e-mail...

best of luck on ur interviews guys,

dustin, how was ur interview at UT-houston? Did you stay with a student?? or did you drive up there? I have emailed Kristin Roggenkamp multiple times about staying with a student but got no replies, i even phoned admissions and they have no idea either so it's a bit worrying for me...do you know of any really close by hotels near the campus with good taxi or shuttle services that one such as I could use to take to get to the campus on time etc??

and to anyone else who got an interview with UT-houston, are any of you coming to houston on Sept 12 cuz that is when my interview is??

🙁

I think my ship is sunk, I have not received a thing from any school. I just don't get it. It has been nice chatting here guys, but I need to find out WTF is going on with my app.

Hey guys,

just got back from Houston....soooooo tired.

It was great..better than San Antonio, maybe maybe better than A&M...😀

Ah...rest til TT on Oct 10 in....AHHHH El Paso!

Oh please please UTSW mail me! 🙁

hey jay-zee, i'm w/you on the tired thing. i am exhausted and about to crash. interviews completely wear me out...i definitely liked houston (it's sooooooo big though!! 😱 ) and it's risen to the top of my list. but i don't know if i personally like it better than utsa...the students at utsa were just amaing...and so pumped about their school. i don't know if i sensed it to the same degree at houston. but then again, i did love the school.

btw i'm at tech at the 10th as well...in el paso....see you then!

I'm curious...

when you interview with two people, and if they ask the same questions, do you answer with the same answers? Spunmoni, in your interview, do the Ph.D. and M.D. have overlapping questions? maybe like "Why medicine" type?

Fantastic news on the interviews. 😀

Pls advise of why TT in El Paso? Whas that a choice instead of Lubbock? Seems a little odd since >50% of their program is in Lubbock, or maybe I am just naive about TT.

Is this a mistake? My TMDSAS was just processed, and UT-SW sent my an invite for an interview...I haven't even turned in the secondary application!?! I'm applying as an out-of-state applicatn. Does anyone know what's going on?? I really need some help.

the questions didn't really overlap...but if they did, i'd say the same thing (b/c that's the truth) except maybe elaborate a bit more.
oh and ortho, they offered us the option of el paso or lubbock in the interview selection...i didn't particularly want to go to el paso but that was the only date remaining...the campus is split b/t lubbock and/or amarillo and el paso, i believe.

Where were you on the 27th? The Only SDN'er that said high at Tech was dustin04ag.

BTW, I loved Tech.

Let's just say I didn't see your post until I got back from Tech. I don't even think I spoke to you during the day. I think Dustin introduced himself, but I didn't even realize he was going to be there, until I just say your post. I didn't find out I was going until the Friday or Saturday before. I must have been one of the last to fill in that interview day. My bad... Glad you liked the program. Everyone was really nice.

I meant saw...

sup guys. just started school again so i've been catching up. congrats to everyone that's gotten MORE interviews.

i'll be at A&M sept 11th!

Primarily because of the dates. If I were to have interviewed at Lubbock I had to choose from either the 27 or 29 of Aug. I was not in a mood to have 3 interviews in 3 different locations (away from DFW) in the FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL! no sirrey-way. 😳

...and do I want to end up in Lubbock? ........ hey, i didn't say nothin'

That's cool😉 It's nice too meet people from the board once in a while.

There were a **** load of Aggies there...... ATM representin'😀

I prolly shouldn't say this, bein' a Longhorn myself...

There were a lot of Aggies at my interviews! You guys are really on the ball. Nice folks, too. 😉

T

I definitely wasn't going to break out the Aggie jokes at this party😉

anyone get any interview invites lately?

Well guys, I guess the flurry of interview activity has died down a bit. We need a new topic to keep the thread alive!

So... are most of you in school this semester? Working? I'm still volunteering at the hospital. Dying for my chance to be a med student!

Can't imagine how I'm going to wait until Feb 1st...

Im still in college right now.

I have 2 interviews this "weekend" (friday and monday) and then 1 each weekend for the next 2 weeks. Its pretty stressful flying everywhere with classes going, and its made a huge hole in my wallet.

I can't keep up, where are you interviewing in the next few weeks???

Your Baylor interview this Friday or the 19th? Mine's Friday. I'm alternately excited and ready to puke! Maybe if I could just get cryogenically frozen until I get an acceptance letter!

Great news. How did you hear so quickly?

Let's just say a friend of a friend of a friend knows a dept chair and he asked the dir. of admissions.

It was actually quite a bit more direct than that, but I could probably get in trouble for blabbing on here already. I'm kind of regreting it now.

Might I aslo add that they knew who was getting invites as of 5pm the day we interviewed. Why the wait?........

Hi TheresaW,
I have Michigan and Vandy this "weekend" (Friday and Monday), UTSW next weekend, and Baylor the weekend after that. Looks like you're having similar success yourself Theresa =)

Good luck on your interviews, not that you will need luck, and im sure we will meet in real life at some school. Tru dat about the cryo, its quite a stressful time of the year, but Im glad to have SDN to talk about it!

hey gleevec and theresa--totally feel you guys on the stressful/waiting stuff. i feel very fortunate to have gotten a lot of my interviews out of the way already--it's super stressful missing o-chem classes (i've already missed 3, and am slated to miss another 4 before semesters' end!! 😱 😱 ) and trying to catch up. if i had to miss more classes...i don't know what i'd do. and the expense...my credit card bill is through the roof. 🙁 and then the waiting!! feb 1 seems really, really, really far away...this week is my 1st w/o any interviews (no driving, missing directions, walking in painful heels, pantyhose, stress of catching flights/buses/taxis...) for a while.

okay, enough ranting i suppose. so here comes baylor just a week or so from now..i'm already nervous thinking about it, since it's close to my top choice school. what are y'all doing to prepare? i flipped thru this week's newsweek--there's a nice story about autism and recent medical innovations. of course i'm reading up on their website etc. ah, the tmc is awesome--i actually walked by baylor when i was interviewing at uth last week. it would be a dream to go there, even though i'm not so sure about houston...

good luck y'all!!

Nothin yet from UTSW....gettin blue.
🙁

oh and gleevec, good luck at vandy. it's super non-stressful (i posted on interview feedback) and i was very impressed by the school overall. patti is very nice and will even schedule the shuttle back to the airport at whatever time you choose. good luck!

Hi spumoni,
Glad to hear your interviews went well. I didnt really have any doubts =). Dont worry too much about missing o-chem, just get the notes and maybe go to office hours and yall be just fine. If ya have a lot of problems I TAed the class for almost 2 years, but I doubt someone like you would have any 🙂 . Glad to hear about Vandy being nice, Im sorta worried about having UM and Vandy within 4 days of each other (they are seperated by 1 day in terms of travelling), but hey, gotta make some sacrifices.

Baylor and UTSW are my top choices too, and I was extremely impressed with UTH. For Baylor, Ive been looking at interview feedback and the AMCAS/secondary I wrote for it. The NYtimes health section is pretty good about current events, such as the new restructrucing of ERs in relation to medicaid. The latest scientific american is pretty interesting too, the new issue (ive only seen it online) is about neuroscience and ways of altering consciousness and intelligence. I think that stuff is pretty cool, and your interviewer might too =).

And about Houston, Ive lived there all my life except for undergrad. Its a pretty nice city. It has a bad reputation even though its pretty good, and I'm fairly well-travelled. I think it has the same image issues that cities like LA, DC, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh has, but all of these cities, and Houston, have some really nice areas. The TMC area, also called Rice Village/West University, is extremely nice. Westheimer and downtown both offer fantastic night life. The only piece of advice I can give you about Houston, or any city for that matter, is to try and dissolve your preconceptions. I thought I would hate the Research Triangle because it doesnt involve a major cosmopolitan city, but I came to love it pretty quickly once I threw away my preconceptions. Each city has something unique to offer I firmly believe-- and there is something for everyone just about anywhere. I hope you find that something in h-town!

Good to hear you have a break, definitely a nice time to get caught up on work and to take a deep breath. Good luck with Baylor, Im sure yall do great!

I was just looking and I have realized I haven't seen a post from trauma_junky in awhile. I know that I have a lot of interviews as, many of ya'll, but I just wanted to let everyone out there who is waiting for interviews to come in to not give up. I was talking to one of my friends about a close friend of mine that is kind of down right now about not hearing from anyone yet. I know it is hard & I just wanted to let anyone out there who is reading or posting who is down in the dumps to not give up hope. If anyone needs any prayers lifted up, just let me know. I know this is a stressful time.

wow y'all are awesome 😍 this thread oozes down-home texan friendliness. 🙂

giving--i think i know who you are! the gray/brown classy pinstripes? were you behind me on the bus to scott & white?? cool--you'll knock 'em dead w/your poise/charm; great to hear that your interviews are going well. i know all too well about playing catch up. it's really hard for me to get back into the swing of cramming--i think i took an extended study break after finishing the mcats in april 😱 and my mind is rebelling against more cramming. but anyhow, hope your test goes well!

gleevec---thanks for the good wishes...to be honest i was thinking quite the same about you (i.e. if there's anyone primed for a spot at harvard, it's you). you're probably already on the plane by now, but don't worry about the back-to-back--i had to do it for san antonio/vandy and while it was exhausting, the adrenaline kicks in and you'll do fine. the day at vandy also has a lot of built-in downtime so you can relax (and they have a computer so you can, of course, check email and sdn...😀 ) this is good b/c you'll need to explore vandy by yourself, since the tour is pretty sparse.
and about houston--thanks for the input--valuable coming from a houstonian. it didn't seem that bad, just BIG. i personally liked the big-city feel, although it can be a tad intimidating. there are pluses and minuses--although IMO the TMC cancels out any of the minuses 😀

and jay-zee--don't fret about utsw--i haven't heard anything from them either 🙁 . think i'm going to call them to make sure nothing's lost in the mail?? houston rocked anyway!

good luck to everyone...and i second giving's last post. we all applied pretty early and interviews go on until at least november-jan (i believe??) so there's still plenty of time yet. if you feel as though you should have gotten an interview based on stats etc. it's worth calling. (calling baylor i found out they had lost my supplemental...😱 and rectified the situation quickly).

till next time...🙂

I bet that will be helpful in med school😉 Mine is dreadful.

Were you sandwiched b/t a shorter hispanic girl in a blue skirt suit and a taller guy in a dark suit? What school were you from? If you're the person I'm thinking of, it wasn't the typical UT/A&M type school. I was the tallest/olderst dude there. Except for the guy who REALLY wanted to know last years Step1 scores, I probably asked the most questions 😕

No big deal just curious.

Thanks for the breath of fresh air .02. Ya, I'm kind of scratching my head at this point and trying not to let it get me too down. I've been in contact with an admissions person at UTSA and he wants to interview me really bad, but I guess who ever has my file doesn't feel the same way. So this should let you guys know just how cohesive the whole process is 🙄. I'm extremely busy this semester, so my post will be limited. It is my last semester of grad school and it is going to be my hardest yet. I was living in San Antonio, but my wife got laid off and the job market here is horrible. So we packed up and moved back to the Houston, great job market, and I am working as a 911 paramedic again. My son is having a hard time adjusting to the new place, so sleep at night has been limited. So I work 48 hours Friday through Monday and then drive to San Antonio to go to class Tuesday through Thursday. My classes are going to be tough, especially my neuroanatomy class. I have to finish up some research I started so I can be a co-author on a paper with my mentor and study for my comprehensive oral final exam so I can graduate. Hey but I can't complain! LOL My wife says I'll look like the president after this semester. Go in with normal hair and come out all gray. Any prayers would be appreciated at this point. The idea of doing the app process again is really nauseating. I say with a friend of mine in San Antonio while I'm there and she is a third year at UTSA. She is constantly telling me I belong in med school. I'm an ACLS instructor, so I help tutor her and her friends in prep for ACLS. At this point in time, just getting any feed back from a medical school would ease my stress a little. I just pray if I don't get an interview this year, I'm not to jaded to try again next year.

i'm finally turning in my application tomorrow.
