Texas Tech IS going to open a four year school in El Paso, so the Texas legislature can't be too much against new medical schools. It would make sense to say that the area around Austin has "too many doctors", but to say that of the state as a whole is a bit of a stretch. I believe their are 38 counties in Texas that are classified as medically underserved.

Yeah, I just heard about the Texas legislature and the too many docs in TX from the lady interviewing me at SA. I don't know much more than that. I didn't mention the medically underserved b/c I didn't want to disagree with her. I could kind of tell she felt pretty strongly about it. It sounded like she thought nobody should become a doc anymore b/c NP's and PA's do the same and get to sleep more. She kept going on and on and on about this....it kind of made me think that she regretted her decision to become a doc b/c she kept mentioning sleep. She also said how she envied the women in the hospital where she worked that weren't docs b/c they appeared to be more well rested and weren't aging like her. 😕 😕

I think NY has 12-13. Not sure about cali.

You're right. I was thinking, what kind of heartless person would read a nice, "current status" type letter and think -- "you know, I was going to invite this person to interview but now, naah."

They talked alot about the El Paso school when I interviewed at Tech in August. I believe they said they plan to open it in for 2008. I also have heard alot of talk about a UT med school in Austin.
I really don't believe any part of the world has too many doctors, much less Texas.

I concur wiht lane. I didn't get my interview from UTHSCSA until late (mid november) and I had already intervied at UTH, UTMB, UTSW and baylor. I interviewed in decemberin SA and it wasmy first choice, so.l..

You guys make me feel better. My friend also did not get an interview at UTHSCSA until December (she's the one who's now an MS1 there). This was after she had interviewed at every other medical school in Texas....so now I don't know what to think. At least I'm not the only one though. 😳 🙂

Just a little update, I talked with Dr. Wright at UTSW admissions today. They have a "few" interview slots left for October and November, but He said that those slots would be filled within a week.

So, for anyone looking at UTSW, if you haven't got an interview yet, there is only two interview days left.

I don't know how all the UT schools work, but unlike systems that involve ranking interviewee canidates based ona cummulative score, the process at SA is much more thorough. This is why students with MCATs of 26 will interview and those with MCAT's of 35 won't. Its not a score based system and takes more time.

What exactly do you mean by two interview days left? Last year they interviewed in December and January; I went on January 10 and I think they said that was the second-to-last date. I didn't even receive my invite until 11/1 and I hadn't sent in my TMDSAS until about this time last year. The point is, if you are qualified and you want it, there will be a spot for you.

as much as i can't stand steve spurrier, i think he may be texas' only hope to reclaim all the prized recruits theyre losing and to actually win something. it's been rumored that mack is done after yesterday's loss

I gotta tell ya, its hard trying to recognize SDN people at interviews and such. Most of the time, you pass by them without knowing who they are.....unless you go up to a suspected SDNer and ask, "hey, are you (name) from SDN?"

I met txguy at UT-Houston and AggieGal at UTMB and Tech. If you PM them about their real names, you can usually find them if they have nametags....its fun to match Internet identities with faces

I've been processed. Unfortunately, TMDSAS has my overall GPA at 3.05, due to not dropping classes (16 hrs. 😱 ) my freshman year. It would seem I never caught up 🙁 It really sucks, too, because I've had a pretty decent (even if a little spotty) record since then. My science GPA is 3.6. Somehow, I don't think I'll be hearing from anyone this cycle. Chin up, though, my app was only sent out 9/29, so I haven't lost all hope, but I've definitely lost a little steam. 🙁

Keep your head up 👍 ......at least you have an upward trend....and the fact that you have had some tough times is not all bad--you really deepen character and learn alot from those types of situations. I'm sure adcoms recognize this.

hey don't lose hope yet, they definitely look at trends in your application...so if your science GPA is a 3.6, that means you must have hauled major butt in those last few years science-wise. i think you still have hope, cuz they'll definitely keep that in mind.

Also, is there a social and a stay with a med-student the night before for UTSW? Haven't heard anything about that kind of stuff from them either. Although, I've got a while to figure it out. I switched the interview date from 12/4 to 11/20. My friend, Autumn, and I would like to travel together.

Just finished up my UTH interview last Friday. The facility is unbelievable, and the students were the most friendly that I've met anywhere. I stayed with a first year, who was more helpful, generous, and outgoing than I could have hoped for. Good luck to all who interview there!

They're not really allowed to tell you your status, just that you are complete. If you get a nice person on the phone, they might tell you if you have an interview and the invitation is in the mail, or that you're in line to be reviewed or whatever. I called UTSW the day before i got my interview invitation and they didn't tell me about it. Just luck I guess

I-35 can get really bad, but I'm not sure how it is around the time you'd probably be leaving ~8:00. I'm guessing it's bad then too since everybody is headed to work.

The staying with a med student is really fun. You email somebody to request it. I don't have the email address here with me at school, but I can post it later if nobody beats me to it. Also, if you go the night before you can attend the social at the Bombay Bicycle Club which was really fun and the students there were really friendly and helpful!

All the students were so nice at the Bombay Bicycle Club--I definitely recommend going as well. This is also where I got to meet lane from SDN lol
