Just got an interview invite from UT Houston by e-mail for 9/10. My TMDSAS was processed on 7/28.
Are there any schools that only send invites via snail mail and not e-mail?

So here is the scoop on A&M:
i had my aug 5th interview yesterday. it was a long day. started at 7am , went to about 5 pm. 2 interviews, one in morning one in afternoon. my first interview was with Filo, the asst. dean of admissions, the head honcho. my advice is this : know several important health care issues and be able to talk about them. also, know several social issues, non-health care, in US and also be able to explain them.
cant stress this enough: know ur health care policies and system. and know ur personal statement and 2ndary essays well too.
any other questions just pm me.

I wouldn't worry, tiger. Your stats are solid. I have similar stats from UT Austin; the only reason why I have more interviews is my earlier processing date on 7/16. Unfortunately, chronology is the most important factor here (or so it seems).

So I was thinking about staying with a med student the night before my interview at utsa. I emailed them about a week ago but no body's gotten back to me yet--not even an acknowledgement of my request. My interviews on the 16th...how much longer should I wait? The day doesn't start till 10...maybe I should just arrive the day of. Anybody else planning on staying overnight?

Just got UTMB invite today via snailmail. Processed 7/21.
Do people actually go to the night before activity/social? I'm waffling on it, but since I work full-time in Houston, I just assume drive down in the morning for the interview. Does attendance at the night before have any implication on interview outcome?

I'm definitely going to try to go to the night before thing (I'm not sure yet if I'll be able too), but I think the letter specifically said that it was unofficial and wouldn't have a bearing on your admission. I read in some interview feedback that some people thought that the night before thing made them feel more comfortable the next day which couldn't have hurt their interview performance.

I recommend staying with a student the night before because it gives you some insight into the lifestyle you can expect and you can ask some more in-depth questions of a student. If you choose to stay with a student, keep in mind that their opinion about school/life is only one person's view.

I just wanted to say that in my case the night before at UTMB did help simply because I was inquisitive and asked a lot of questions. But also they give you a student's perspective and answer any of the questions you may have. If you are enthusiastic about the school and want to know more I say go for it. I really enjoyed mine but that was also because I loved UTMB and I ranked it number 1. So i guess in the end it all depends. I just don't see how it would hurt to get extra info anyway.

Yee-hah! (Number 2) - I got UTMB via snail mail today (8/7) (I really wanted the Vandy interview, but the mailman said he wouldn't give me it yet)

Lemme give every-buddy a word of encouragement (including myself). I was a little (okay, very) disappointed that I didn't get the UTSA letter in the mail today. I could feel my heart beating faster as I approached the mailbox. When I didn't find anything valuable (I knew that others had received invites for 8/23), I felt pretty down. Afterwards, however, I checked the stats for the Texas med schools, and basically, they're all around 3.5-3.6 GPA and 27-29 MCAT. Since my stats (and most of you guys' stats) are either equal or higher than that, I told myself that I shouldn't be worried. Remember that they have A LOT of apps to sort through. Who knows what one aspect of a person's application may catch their eye?

UTH - 9/3 interview (email)
UTMB - they offered 9/3 interview, but I am going to hope they can reschedule (snail-mail only)
A&M - 8/19 interview (email)

Yes, it comes by snail mail too. However, you have to verify with whoever sent it. I got mine from Rachel Lacy. Her email address is [email protected]. I would email her and explain the situation.

Hah, I just realized how silly I was being. I was wanting to reschedule because it conflicted with my flimsy plans of making it out to Fayetteville for the Texas/Arkansas game. Screw that. So, a few questions for you fellow Texas folk. I'm looking to submit my TMDSAS by Tuesday. I have sent my transcripts and one letter of rec. However, I have yet to get a confirmation from two professors I have contacted to write letters on my behalf. They may be out of the country, I'm not sure. Anyway, first question, will schools consider my application without receiving my second letter of recommendation? Second, must the second letter of rec come from a professor? I put together a social service program and ended working a lot with a city council member. He is writting me a letter, and I really would like to use it, but he's obviously not a professor. Third, in the case where sending a second letter from a professor is a must, would it be bad to send the letter written by the city council member? Thanks for your help, best of luck in applying!

To answer your second question, I think that all three letters must come from professors (and not TA's either). At my school, UT-Austin, the letter from the city council member would count as an "additional letter" that would be sent separately from the three professor letters (these three-five profesor letters make up the school's "committee" letter"). However, all schools do things differently, and you might want to check with your health professions office on that one. Thirdly, I would still send in the letter from the city council member--he seems like an important guy, and if he says good things to say about you, it couldn't hurt. A total of four letters is best (or so I've been told).
Another word of advice: If your other two professors aren't responding, I'd try to get other professors to write me letters ASAP. You don't want to wait until September for everything to be completed. Timing is of the essence here, as I have slowly been realizing through this Texas thread.
Other Texas threaders--If I'm wrong on any of this, please correct me! Just passing along what I know.

I finally heard for UTMB yesterday. I was at a concert and my mom called me and told me (not at home for the summer - UTSW research). Its on 9/10. It really perked me up. Still waiting on SA and A&M.

If you look at the "Timeline" on the TMDSAS page, they don't wait for all your supporting docs to start the processing, which takes about 4 weeks (especially now later in the cycle). So while your TMDSAS is being processed, you could work on getting your LORs in--but it is very important to submit that baby as soon as humanly possible.

Hey Evo, have you been processed yet? I'm in the same boat as you, all materials in 7/10/04. I noticed you transmitted yours on 7/6/04, so 8/3/04 (this past Tuesday) was your 4 week mark 🙁.
