Alright, a bit off topic. Did anyone see "Napoleon Dynamite"? I watched it the other night and became more and more uncomfortable throughout the movie. I spent a few years growing up in Idaho, and it was just too real. Usually, I empathize with the underdog, but in this instance, I could really feel for his abusers. Is this wrong? "It's a liger...it's pretty much my favorite animal". I keep having flashbacks!

It is wrong not to empathize with Napolean...Where is your sense of compassion? Were you not inspired by the way he danced for Pedro? I was so moved that I practice my Napolean Dynamite dance every night before I go to sleep!

Hi everyone,
I was cleaning out my closet and I found an old Houston Oilers t-shirt! I wonder if it'll be worth something one day 🙄

I loved this movie. Very cute. Very endearing. Very sweet.

I've had a long day! Whew!! I'm glad it's over!!!!

:luck: :luck: :luck: 7 days and 4 hours!!! :luck: :luck: :luck:

It's coming quickly....I'm so glad I'm busy this week.

This day has been the worst day 🙁 ... just when I thought it couldn't get any worse it has and the worst part of it is that I think this week is just going to get worse. My birthday is on match day and I don't think its going to be a good one. 👎

🙁 Awww...I'm sorry you had a bad day. Keep your chin up....you could have a wonderful birthday present. We just all have to wait and see, which sux!

I hope you feel better soon! 🙂 :luck: Good luck! :luck:

For all those checking UTSW page, it didn't change last year until like 11:50 P.M. Good luck to you guys!

Thanks SFAJess for trying to cheer me up. Unforunately I've been through this before because I'm a reapplicant and last year I spent my birthday crying literally. I'm starting to wish they would just move the match date just so I can have one happy birthday.

cool, thanks for the info! We all hope of course that it will change early, though I don't count on it. At times like this I wish I had a friend at the schools to check and see if I got in!

Can they really do this? Do they let med students in on the results before Match Day?

Funny, true blue, your sig fits in perfectly after that question. :laugh:

I doubt it. It is strange to me that this process takes as long as it does unless they hand check everything.

I wish I could code some of this to make it more "efficient"
i.e.
if (appName=="davidr")
{
boolMatch=true;
MatchSchool=profileMatchId[0];
}

I take it you are a computer programmer.

One day our professor was discussing a particularly complicated concept. A pre-med student rudely interrupted to ask, "Why do we have to learn this pointless information"

"To save lives." the professor responded quickly and continued the lecture.

A few minutes later, the same student spoke up again. "So how does physics save lives?" he persisted.

"It keeps the ignoramuses like you out of medical school," replied the professor.

😍

Why does it feel like this thread has become my social life for the past few days? 😛

First-year students at Medical School were receiving their first anatomy class with a real dead human body. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, "In medicine, it is necessary to have two important qualities as a doctor. The first is that you not be disgusted by anything involving the human body".

As an example, the professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the anal cavity of the corpse, withdrew it and stuck it in his mouth. "Go ahead and do the same thing", he told his students.

The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking a finger in the bottom of the dead body and sucking on it. When everyone finished, the professor looked at the students and told them, "The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention".

Sad but so true 🙁

If you're looking for something to do over the weekend before the match, I reccommend "We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families" and the movie "Hotel Rwanda"

I think for me its because all I can think about is the match, and yet I don't want to tell any of my friends or family about it...because if I am disappointed on Feb 1st, I don't want everyone around me to ask how it went every 5 minutes.

So in the meantime I am keeping quiet, trying to convince myself that it will be fun to reapply next year, and reading SDN.

Heh, no kidding. As much as I enjoy reading SDN, I am hoping I don't have as much time for it next year.

Thanks EvoDevo and true blue you guys helped cheer me up a little. I wish the both of you the best of luck on match day. 🙂

Any Houston ppl want to celebrate the TX match on Tuesday evening? Mi Luna has 2 dollar tapas and 2 dollar sangrias on Tuesdays! Alternatively, we could start early at Brian O'Neils--Happy Hour starts at 2 and runs 'til 9 😀

Seriously! You deserve to be giddy like a school girl (or boy?) for your birthday, we're all rootin' for ya 😀

Regardless how things turn out, if someone comes across me drunk and confused babbling on a sidewalk in Rice Village, could you please call me a cab? Feel free to use my wallet (if I haven't already lost it yet) to cover the fare, and keep a lil tip for yourself

Why worry... it will be your birthday, you will be drunk... nothing could possibly go wrong when you're drunk on your birthday. 🙂

On a more serious note - it's doubtful you'll be crying this year... unless they're tears of joy. TX schools LOVE reapplicants, and you probably wowed your interviewers with your maturity and confidence (hey, you've been doing this 2 years). Happy early birthday medstu110! :luck:

That sounds like a good idea! Count me in. Either spot works...

Now I wish I had stayed in state for school. Oh well, there are plenty of places to get drunk where I am 😎

I've already got my bottle o' wine ready for match night. Either way it's going down the hatch! Yum!! Unfortunately, I won't be able to be with my fiance for comforting or congratulations b/c of that stupid new job.

I wish I could be with y'all in Houston on Tuesday! I bet y'all are going have a lot of fun.

I wanna change my "bid" on the number of posts! 😳 We're are more obsessive than I originally thought. Hmmm....5234! That sounds good!

:luck: :luck:6 days 14 hours:luck: :luck:

I'm still sticking to my original bid of 5000. 🙂

We've been kind of quiet today. 😳

I'm definately game for a little Houston Boozin on Tuesday...regardless of the Match outcome...cuz I'm going to Med School regardless!!!!!!!

[this thread needs a little excitement to cut through the pessimism]

To get us out of the rut I'll start off 🙂 ...How many students do you think each of the schools rank in their match lists and how far down their list do they usually have to go to fill up their class?

Probably because we're all hungover.....any outsider reading through this thread would think the future doctor's of Texas are raging alcoholics. 😀

I think Tech had 512 last year but I don't know how far they went down to fill their class. TAMU had 250ish and I've seen on this thread that they only went down to #150, but I have no idea if that info is confirmed.

Not sure about the other schools. Anyone else know?

Someone posted some information on this Here

For those of you that sent thank you notes to your interviewers, did you send it by e-mail or snail mail?
