OK miracles do happen...I got an interview from Tech today! This means I am 7 for 7! For all of you with not so hot MCAT scores or average GPR's obviously other stuff IS important (it worked for me anyway!). I am SO happy right now 🙂 It just makes me feel like I have done all I can do academically and now I can really show them the real me in person.

I'll be at Tech on 9/8. Not looking forward to that super long drive though...
Whoa! Congrats, AG!!! 👍

You know what? YOu're going to medical school next year..... 🙂

Sorry...but huh? 😕 It musta been a long day because that just went right over my head. 😳
I was saying that you should consider taking Southwest Airlines from wherever you are to Lubbuck. It's not that expensive and you won't kill yourself on the drive out there.

Seriously wish I could hug you right now!!! I have been so worried about this whole process. It's just that I want this SO bad, it's really awesome to know that med schools are looking for average people who want to be doctors.

Congrats!!

When were you TMSAS and Tech processed again?

Hey, check out my comments about Tech's processing speed. I was TMDSAS processed on 8/11 and they still haven't unpacked the box with my app yet. 🙄

🙂 Heh. Perhaps you'll have your chance at some point. 😉

We should all consider having an end of the application year celebration BBQ next spring. Kind of a "get to know your future colleagues" event......

Hey! It looks like I'll be joining y'all in Lubbock on 9/8!! FINALLY! But...oh what a drive... 🙄 and it's in the middle of the week so I'll be missing some classes. I'm not looking forward to driving 7 hours by myself to a place I've never been. :scared:

Where are you coming from? Just curious because I have a 7 hour drive too. I am NOT looking forward to that drive...

hehe thanks.... (btw Evo, check your PMs...)

I was tech processed on 8/16, so they've had about 1.5 weeks to look at it....I guess I'll give it more time!

A&M keeps sayin I'm under "administrative review" and I should hear within the next week....

Congrats all on the interviews guys .....I'm sure we'll all end up where we're supposed to be.

I'm gonna go work on my time machine so I can fast forward to Feb 1 😀

I was processed 7/14 and am 5 for 7. Still waiting on UTSW and UTSA. I have heard that San Antonio saves some candidates for December interviews, and I have a feeling that if they were going to give me an early interview, I would have already gotten it. This happened to my best friend last year who got into San Antonio with a 4.0 and had early interviews from the other schools like the rest of us. So anyway, the only school I'm waiting on is Southwestern....which should be coming if that 3.5/31 thingy is correct. Just an update for you newbies wondering how long it takes to receive interviews.

On another note, congrats AggieGal on being 7 for 7! I think that it is a mathematic impossibility to NOT get into a Texas med school with 7/7 interviews (that is, unless your interviews go HORRIBLY WRONG). Anyway, good luck guys....see some of you on Thursday-Friday in Houston!

Thanks, I hope you're right! I'll see you Friday in Houston! My name is Jessica by the way, you should find me. It would be nice to meet someone off of here...

Now that I think about it there is another girl from A&M named Jessica that has been at every interview with me. So if you want to find me, it would probably be helpful to know that I am white, average height, brown hair with blonde highlights.

LOL, thats good to know!

It would be funny if I went up to the other Jessica from A&M and said "Hey, I'm txguy from SDN!!"

Jessica: blank look
Me: uh....nevermind?

Congrats on being processed...you should start hearing stuff in about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks....that is unless they got really busy, but no worries....this will be the place to vent your frustrations. Welcome! 😀

My name is Kelli (from UT-Austin), and as my name implies, I'm Asian, about 5'2". See you guys there =)

Yay! I was processed today by TMDSAS... Unfortunately, I can't say the same for AMCAS... Now the worst part of the waiting comes... Well, maybe the second worst, considering that we have to wait until February to see if we got in... Anyway, I will definitely be sure to announce any and all interview invites I get...

Especially b/c of our early interviews! It won't be so bad for those that interview later.

That's true. Hopefully having applied early will help us all out, but I'm not sure if that's a fair assumption to make. It would certainly make the wait easier to handle. I just don't like not having any power in this process. It's just not fair!!

Our advisor said we do have an advantage with early interviews. She said that they usually accept 2x as many as they matriculate. So at the beginning of the interviewing season, they could have as many as 400 spots. Towards the end of the season in Nov and Dec, they may only have 50 spots left. They will be a lot more choosy when the number of spots starts lowering. Does that make sense how I wrote it?

I know A&M assigns a score and basically that is your ranking. At the end of all the interviews they put them all together and in order by score. This is how they come up with their "list." In that respect it doesn't matter when you interview, just how well you score.

It took me several weeks to get completely processed by AMCAS: FYI for those who have not submitted yet.

As for having better chances having applied earlier.. those who apply later will not be able to interview at as many schools because the interview dates will be filled. This is probably the main advantage. Also, those who apply later should have higher MCAT scores having retaken them in August. Plus they have had more time for research, clinical experience, etc.

Good luck to everyone..

PS. WHO WILL I SEE IN SAN ANTONIO ON MONDAY??? 😉

Submitted on June 24, processed Aug. 11 (I had some issues with getting a letter to them.)

I haven't heard anything from anyone yet! BUT, I did check and saw that TCOM has everything - anyone know how long they take to review?

I even went so far as to set up an auto forward to my work e-mail address from home, just in case I should hear from UTH. UTMB and UTH are top picks for me since I really would like to stay in the Houston area.

Congratulations to everyone with interviews so far, and Good luck to us all!!

That is just another example of how "out of the loop" today's premed advisors are. All Texas schools rank students and generally will assign a score for a student. Then they sit back down together after interview season and literally for weeks they reassign scores and numbers based on the "whole pot". They generally rank 3-4 x the number of students they need and then send them in order to TMDSAS on a list from like 1-400 for a school that accepts 400. Because each school seriously has to do this to not risk "NOT MATCHING" some of their slots. Probably only 1 of every 4 students who interviews at a school will rank it first, for whatever reason. And they know this. Your interview date puts you at no risk whatsoever if it is late in the season. There are tons of people who took the August MCAT and will not even be screened until November. I actually believe that earlier applicants are at a disadvantage because the committee may remember the faces of the people they spoke with over the last few weeks. Truth be told, with all the scools in Texas, you have a better chance of getting in somewhere than nowhere if you simply get some interviews. If you get interviewes at all Tx schools, chances are about 75% that you are getting in somewhere, and probably closer to 90%. Don't sweat it, and truly pick where you want to go. You will be happier if you follow your instincts!

It really shouldn't be too long now. I heard from UTH about a week after I was processed. I am sure there are more apps now so it is taking a little longer. Good luck and get ready. You are about to be smothered with invites 🙂

I think schools with rolling admissions work that way (which is none of the schools in TX but Baylor). I think schools with set days for admission work the way the others have said.

Oops, guys! Sorry...guess I shouldn't believe everything I hear. Thanks for the info, though!

I was processed on 8/11 and have heard back from 2 schools, TCOM and UTSA (actually called UTSA to make sure everything was rec'd, and found out about my interview then).

Hope that helps.

PS - PACtoDOC, please check your PMs. 🙂

Heard from Baylor today! F*kin A. 9/24 interview

If any of you have any questions on Friday I'll be giving the 1pm Texas Heart Institute tour so stop by and introduce yourself. 🙂

and oh yeah, I have dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, and my screen name echos my real name. 🙂

Ok, I know this isn't the AMCAS thread, but since I mentioned earlier that I hadn't been processed by them yet I just had to update you guys... I was processed by AMCAS this afternoon! So now TMDSAS and AMCAS are through!!! YAY!

Congrats. I didn't even have the guts to apply to Baylor. My husband told me to, but I knew better.

Good luck on the interview.

I think it will be awhile longer for me to hear from TCOM. I only submitted the secondary last Friday, but it was the first thing they received, at that point they were still waiting on the stuff from TMDSAS.

How were you notified for the interview? E-mail, phone or snail mail?

Ah. My secondary was sent in back in mid-July.

They call first, then a confirmation email.

Congratulations to everyone who has received interviews so far. 👍

Not to be a wet blanket, but just because you get an interview does not mean that you are in somewhere for sure. The interview is CRUCIAL to your "score" for the TMDSAS match. Tech told us last year that the interview is 40% of your score. The purpose of the interview is NOT to make sure that you aren't a total freak; the interviewers are perceptive and can pick up on your personality in the way you answer questions and fidget and everything. 😱 They can tell if you are lying or stretching the truth.

Enjoy the fact that you have interviews, it is a BIG step forward in the process. But please don't forget that you aren't in just yet. And don't believe everything the interviewer says as far as promising "to recommend you to the committee." Take it with a grain of salt.

The best thing is to dress well (but not um, trendy, i guess), be relaxed in the interviews, and be nice to EVERYONE (even the greeters and secretaries n stuff, because they have direct access to the adcoms!), although I'm sure no one is planning on being mean 😍

OK, i'll shut up now 😴

people who got interviews in texas could they tell me please when they submitted all of their stuff. i guess what i am asking is when did the school get all of oyur stuff, so i know how long it takes if i am lucky to get an interviews.

thanks

people who got interview from baylor, pleae tell me when you submitted all your stuff.

also people who got interview from texas tech and southwestern and other, please tell me when you submitted all your stuff and when was it verified.

"spoon feed me my info!!"

trying to fall asleep.

I'm especially worried about this part of the app....how many interviews did you have last year and where did you have them? Do you think it was b/c of the interview you didn't get in? Thanks for your input.

Once again, it was my pre-med advisor who said "they only want to make sure you're not an axe-murderer"....however, I know to take it more seriously than that.

I'm afraid of this question: "So what will you do if you don't get in this year?"

I mean, I've already been accepted somewhere. But it's out of state and I wanna stay "home" (Texas). 😀 Do I say, "Yeah, I've been accepted" or say something non-committal? I don't want to have them say, "Well, he's already in somewhere......"

Or am I just overthinking things?

And yeah, I went running and still can't fall asleep.

I thought that if you get interviews to most of the schools, lets say all 7 allopathic schools in Texas, and you have decent stats, average interview, then your chances are about 75-90% you would match somewhere?

I'm looking in the MSAR and it shows a little over 2000 people apply in-state. About 600-1000 people get interviews, if you add up the matriculants it comes out to a little under 1000 people get accepted. Am I looking at this the right way?
