TEXAS Med Schools Entering Class *2005* Applicant Thread part 01

Southwestern only his ten interview days with 60-65 people each day according to their website...So this means they accept almost half of who they interview. I interviewed there yesterday and am totally uncertain about what I think. So far I've seen UTSW and UTMB, neither of which has really struck my fancy, ranking the schools will be tough. I am from out of state too, so I don't know really where I would be most comfortable living. Tomorrow I get the whole SanAntonio shpiel (sp?) too! I totally agree with the crapshoots comments, I haven't heard from UTH or Baylor at all.

Does anyone know how long its taking TMDSAS to process applications now? I sent mine in about 3 weeks ago and it hasn't moved. Just curious. Thanks.
 
hey guys, ive been a lurker around here and have totally enjoyed y'alls comments and support vicariously 😀 now i've got a problem...i've got ut-galveston interview coming up on the 8th, but i seem to have misplaced my entire packet of information. can someone who has info about where to be at what time, plus the hotel phone numbers, PM me that stuff? it would be SUPER appreciated!!!

About a month ago, it was taking four weeks (about a month), so I wouldn't begin to worry. I'm not sure how fast/slow they're going now....you might wanna read through the thread, as I think this topic was brought up a few days ago. Good luck and welcome to our thread! 😉

...anyone else going to A&M this week? I am, and was hoping to crash at a students place because I hear that's a neat experience, but haven't heard back from the student contact or whatever....

anyone know about that?

also, do they have any socials/pre-interview mixers ...

Okay, so, I'm a Texas resident who goes to school out of state (if that matters) and I'm perplexed with TX Tech. I have gotten an interview at the other five TX schools I applied to (UTMB, UTH, UTSA, SW, and A&M) and TX Tech just sent an invitation to me to come to an applicant social, but they haven't asked to interview me--is there anyone else in the same situation? It's not like I think I'm some great, fantastic applicant or anything, but my impression from talking to people is that Tech isn't that selective as compared to other TX schools and that its score averages are the lowest...any ideas?

Like I've said before you'd think Nac is in another country the way it takes so long for mail to get here.

I wouldn't worry about it; Tech has been really slow this year. It seems to me that there is no rhyme or reason to these Texas schools. I'm starting to think that they draw names out of hats or something (okay, not really). If you're concerned, I'd give the admissions office an email to see what's up. I'm thinking about doing that for UTSA if I don't hear anything for another week or so.
 
I live in Houston but I go to school in Rhode Island--I hope you hear from them soon!

Don't know anything about staying with another student, but I do know that they didn't have any mixers/socials when I interviewed there in August. Hope that helps.

I think the idea of having socials with the existing students is a great idea, too bad A&M doesnt have it....any advise about the place from those of you who've already interviewed there?

Here is a question that is still hypothetical...since I've only received an interview invite from UTH.
I'm currently living over in Germany. If offered interviews from the other TX schools, would it be acceptable to contact the schools and adjust the scheduling so they are all the same week. Flying back and forth is expensive and very tiring.
Again, this question is just one of many hypotheticals flying through my brain.

I think that it would be entirely appropriate. I certainly cannot hurt; after all, you did pay them to review your application. Good luck!
 
Yep, I do go to Brown--I actually have a friend (also a Brown student) who's applying to the Texas schools, so you're not alone, DeciduousHuxley🙂

just search the schools' websites - they should have all of the names and information on them
 
Has anyone (non-EDP) heard from Baylor? At my interview, they said they start making calls 2 weeks after each interview date, even though the "official" day is 10/15.

i was there on their first interview day, and they said that the earliest we could hear was oct 15.
 
yea i'm at santa rosa right now in SA but i have a g/f up at UT this year, as for baylor i think the earliest to reg was the 15th ya.
 
Speaking of Baylor, have they given out any interviews in a while? I'm out of state and have been complete forever.

I'm interested in knowing this too. Judging from the interview thread, I don't think they have sent out a batch of invites in a while.

Baylor interviews until March. I think they interview their most competitive applicants (3.8+, 35+, ECs+, and/or outstanding life circumstances) first. I'm hoping for an interview soon too....

Awwww, I didn't mean to discourage anyone here, but I do know that they interview in blocs, with their most competitive applicants first. It seems logical that "most competitive" would mean those who are above their averages of 3.77 and 33.6. It's okay, my MCAT falls short of that average as well....so I'm in the same boat as you hehe.

No worries, sir. Baylor is most definitely a reach school for me; I only applied because:

1) What the heck? Can't hurt.
2) I really like Houston 🙂eek: Everyone try not to choke all at once)
3) I have a very nice social network here, and I'd like to keep it. 🙂

That said, my dream is simple: Med school in Texas. It's all good and it is most certainly cheap. 👍

I believe Baylor interviews every two weeks and there are twelve interview sessions...

Also, Glasses raised to Houston! While the weather is regrettable (especially today), I would love to stay here for med school.

Of course, this assumption is not perfect. However, the "bloc thing" I got straight from a student on the admissions committee....eek!
 
I had recently looked at the "status of application documents" page on the TMDSAS and I wondered if I should be concerned that they haven't received transcripts for classes that I told them I was taking this fall.

This sounds like a stupid question, but AMCAS had my application held up for about 8 days for something ridiculous. I finally called AMCAS and they stated they were waiting on my last transcripts....They were waiting on transcripts for classes I had not even taken yet! I told them that I checked the little box that stated it was a future course, but that didn't matter...they told me I hadn't. Four days later it was processed.

So, I'm not saying anything about the TMDSAS folks, but I want to make sure my application is not just sitting there waiting for a transcript that doesn't exist yet. That warning page before you check the status of your documents is scary, because I don't want them to put my app in the back of the pile just after asking a simple question.

Anyone else in my situation or was in my situation and if so, how did it pan out?

Woohoo! I got UTSW on Dec 11! 👍 That's interview number two for me! I didn't interview at this school last year, so I'm really pumped... 😀

Once you get an interview to UTSW, your chances are very good. I think it's something like 46% of interviewees get accepted.

On the flipside, UTSW is already giving out December interviews 😕 😱

I would sure love to get one of those.

I'm sure you'll hear from them also. But you have other great schools to choose from. Besides, some folks might cancel (or get "sick" :meanie: ) and you could get their interview slot, right? Have hope, look at me and my fellow reapplicants. Chances are that you won't be in my shoes this time next year. This season is far from over! :luck:

not true. I went to interview at baylor on the 2nd interview date, and my stats were certainly less than stellar. (3.45, 31). They have a very different interviewing system. ask me if u have any questions bout it.

So, how do they schedule? Do they interview people out of the order they completed the secondary? Any other details?
