Still waiting on UTMB myself. The other schools have all contacted me, so I'm not sure what's happening. I think I'll call them this evening to see what's up. The worst they can say is "silly insect, what made you think yourself worthy of our school?!" This would of course be followed by several painful seconds of evil laughter. I'll let you know how it goes.

I called them yesterday. Apparenl;y they are not allowed to "tell" me anything over the phone, but they are still sending invites till Dec.1.

I also called Houston, who is interviewing till Jan.7, I think she said, and mail invites are sent out two eeks prior to the interview date. That's all they would tell me.

UTSW hasn't even returned my call; still laughing, I'm sure.

I wouldn't rely on snail mail for Houston. I received an email invite two weeks before my interview. The email invite said that they had already sent the letter via snail mail. HAHAHAHAHA!! I received the letter Nov. 5, the DAY of my interview. It was postmarked November 3. 🙄 🙄

Rely on email for UT-Houston.

Agree w/ this totally. Make sure you check your junk mail in your email cuz if you miss the invite you are out of luck. My letter didn't come until the 6th, the day AFTER.... geez thanks.

I've got a dilemma here. I know i've posted a couple times about the stay with a medical student this Friday in Houston, but I haven't heard from the guy yet. I've written him two emails and still haven't gotten a response. Would it be rude to write him again and just let him know that I'm going to get a hotel room instead? I just don't want to end up waiting till the last minute to hear something.

Lance, I'd check availability for hotel rooms in the area. I have a feeling that they're all pretty empty, meaning that you could check in when you showed up in Houston and don't have to worry about making a reservation. So, then you only have to stay at a hotel at the last minute, and the med student will hopefully contact you before hand. I thus wouldn't send him that email until you're just about to check into a hotel, as he may call you Thursday afternoon and have room for you. Sorry about that situation, sounds like more stress that you really don't need. Good luck with your interview on Friday

heard from tech today--i'm actually pretty excited since i heard so many great things about the school at the dallas reception. although, knowing more than a week in advance would have made the arrangements easier.

I think I stayed at a Best Western, and also Holiday Inn I believe is next door to the BW. Gets you within a mile of the med-center if you are looking for places.

thanks so much! i'm going to tech on the 19th. and it looks like san antonio does like me afterall! my mom called just now and my invite came in the mail!!

i'm so excited. watching my boyfriend go though all of his interviews back in aug/sept was exciting but a bit depressing all at once. i felt like i had to wait forever to get my interviews (aug mcat...). now i'm just praying for baylor.

You must have a strong app to get interviews from all of the Texas schools with an August MCAT! You should definitely pat yourself on the back, and I'm sure that you'll hear from Baylor soon.

I thought that it went fine, I wish that I could've rambled a bit less a few times, but I was able to be myself and say what I wanted to say while not uttering something extremely stupid like I want to be a doctor in order to be rich and prestigious. Thing is, I just couldn't read my interviewers at all. I couldn't tell if they liked/disliked what I said, so I guess I'll just have to wait until Feb. 1st and find out.

thank all of you for the kind words. this has been a grueling process for all of us. i did pretty miserably on the april mcat (it was a horrible day) after preparing really well for it. i knew i should have voided my scores the day of the test but was convinced by friends not to do it. my august scores are a much better representation of my capabilities (they now match my gpa).

i thought i was doomed after getting back my april scores, so i'm ecstatic to be where i am now. i'm pretty confident that i'll get in someplace, but the difficulties lie in the fact that my boyfriend of 4 years and i are trying to get into the same school (after long-distance for all of undergrad). he's an extremely qualified candidate, so i'm just glad to finally get interviews everywhere he's been. it'd just be nice to hear from baylor since we'd at least have 1 school that didn't rely on the match.

For Tech, is it bad to not interview in Lubbock considering I've never seen the campus?

My reasoning is that they gave me three interview dates: 11/17 (lubbock), 11/19 (lubbock), or 12/1 (el paso). 11/17 is too short notice, i have houston int on 11/19...leaving me with the el paso date.

But I've always heard that you should interview at the school's campus, so should I just try my best to make 11/17 possible?

I understand that ultimately the decision is my own but if you wouldn't mind sharing your opinions, I'd much appreciate it. Thanks!! 🙂

This moving from Austin is scaring me as well. My boyfriend will have to stay in Austin until he is done with his UTeach program. I was hoping that I could be in San Antonio (to be close to him), but alas, things don't seem to be going my way. We spend every day together, and work together as well. This whole medical school thing has been extremely stressful on our relationship (and I haven't even gotten in!). Just hoping that we will be able to maintain closeness even if I am far away in Galveston (currently my number 1 choice).

You rank the schools you've interviewed at, so you can't rank when you fill out the app. Before the deadline, 1/15/05, go here and enter the ranking menu.

Hi lovely people. I need some advice if y'all don't mind. For Tech, is it bad to not interview in Lubbock considering I've never seen the campus?

Hmmmm, I don't know about rescheduling....it seems that the adcoms are extremely busy and stressed right now, and they might not be very receptive to applicants' needs at this time (can you really blame them?). The El Paso situation has come up previously in this thread, and supposedly, it doesn't matter whether you interview in Lubbock or El Paso. As long as you take some time to look at the Lubbock campus on your own time, I think you'd be fine. Just my two cents here. 👍

ajnak, I'm missing hockey right now too... the only organized sport I've played is hockey. Always liked watching the skills competitions/allstar game 🙁 oh well. I'm rooting for us to get the UTSA interview. That would make my day

Med school and relationships seem so hard.... I was just talking on the phone to an MS1 friend at UTH and he was telling me there was a relationship of 6 years that broke up and an engagement that already was broken off so far in his class. 😱 I have been seeing my girlfriend since freshman year (4 yrs) and I don't know what's going to happen if/after I get in somewhere. She's on her last semester at UT and applying for jobs right now mainly for Dallas/Houston. I hope I can get into UTSW or UTH to make life easier for us... but what if I get in TTU or TAMU? Nothing is even certain at this point and it sucks so bad.

(never came off the Tech waitlist) Cant tell you how I felt. Shocked more than anything else because I felt I had a solid application and felt my interviews were really good. Anyway I took the MCAT again, went up 1point and applied. Interviewed at all the schools except UTH (whatever) ?BUT again I didn?t get in?waitlisted again?..this year I applied anywhere and everywhere?.will interview at all the Texas schools except TAMU?.and have already been accepted at an out of state! YEAH!!!!

GPA 3.6 Science 3.4 MCATs 29,30

The moral of the story never give up if you really want it and stay positive remember this process is so random so don?t worry too much. YOU WILL GET IN somewhere!!!!!!! heck I did it with my average stats!!!Stay positive yall

WOW, so why did you not get in anywhere, that is exactly what scares me. Do you think it was your science GPA or what. This is ridiculous why would they not accept you, your grades are better then most of the schools averages, this is exactly what i fear. did you apply late or anything like that.

Not really an inspiring story, more like scary as hell...for me at least.
I think a 3.6, 30 MCAT should get you in somewhere, especially after landing almost all of the interviews at the TX schools. Perhaps the interviews didn't go as well as you thought they did. Or it could possibly be the science GPA. Who knows??! I am not looking forward to the thought of applying a third time. Did you ever talk to adcoms and ask why you didn't get in the first two times?

Sorry I didnt mean to scare you and I didnt mean to be rub it in any-ones face that I finally got in. Its just that I found out today and I've been really excited. Yeah I did talk to adcoms...TAMU was probably the most helpful first time they simply said that my scores are not bad and that if I can improve my 29 mcat do it.and yeah maybe my science GPA was not so good..but their bottom line was that there simply are not enough spot for every qualified applicant and to try again. UTH said that if I want to be a doctor I will go to med school.
Like I said though it is a very random process.(my opinion only) I know classmates who got in with lower numbers than mine and those who didnt with higher numbers. Again I think the bottom line is to not give up and remember that in Texas they interview A LOT of people and interview does not equal acceptance. My cynical view of the interview process is that the purpose of the interview is to weed out the weirdos and for the rest of us average people it comes down to numbers and some luck! But I will tell you that I learned a lot through this whole process and I'm glad I experienced the downs because its gonna make med school so GREAT!

Just wanted to make two points after reading my original post. because it didnt inspire me either.lol

1. everyone who wants to be a doctor will be with hard work and perseverance

2. This is just my story...there are a lot of people who get in on their first try without getting as many interviews. Who knows what happened.... maybe it was my MCAT 9Verbal .....maybe Science GPA..... maybe my interviews werent as great as I thought...... maybe it was my recomenders..... maybe it was luck, the stars werent aligned...who knows its not a perfect science and whatever the point of my original post was I dont want it to discourage anyone

If y'all have seen my semi-hysterical posts elsewhere, please forgive me, I'm just a little stressed 🙂 I just had a question about interviews. So I applied to pretty much all the Texas schools and my application was in by the end of september but my recommendations didn't get in till mid-october. I haven't heard anything from any schools yet. When do you guys think is the latest I should wait for an interview before I start applying to schools in the Carribbean 🙂 I know that a lot of it has to do with my dismal gpa, I had a 3.0, but I had a pretty good mcat (36). Hopefully all the Texas people here can give me some kind of answer. Thanks guys.
