There seems to be a couple, if not several people around, who are really set on San Antonio.

Being from there I'm just wondering how many people really want to go there? (i.e. are sure they will rank it first or would if they had an interview there)

it'll still be around after feb 1 😉 people will talk about where they matched, where they really wanted to go, moving up on the waitlist, what they need to do to prepare, try to get to know other people who'll be in their class, laugh about the whole application process, etc.

And i don't want to sound like a jerk because I'm really happy and feel fortunate that I have gotten the interviews that I have. But, just like any other premed, I want more interviews, more options, etc. I guess this knawing feeling that I've already been to my last interview coupled with a pretty rough semester has made me on edge a bit.

Same boat here...two invites (so I can't really complain) and then nothing...but it only takes 1

I called them yesterday (Monday) and they told me that they still had not finished giving out interview invites for their last interview date...?

And to the schools that we don't get interviews from, are we going to get any nice-sounding rejection letters or do we just assume we got rejected?

Hey guys....it seems a bit sad around here lately. My feelings: I just want this whole thing to be over with so I can say with confidence that I survived the Texas match and am now IN at a Texas medical school (fingers crossed, of course). My condolences go out to those of you who applied this year with little or no luck. Honestly, this admissions game has been a great learning process for me, and if I had to do it all over again, I feel that I'd be much wiser if I applied again. So, I'm sure that the process can only get better the second time around. My recommendation is to apply to 20 or more schools....I SO wish I could have interviewed at more schools. Though it's freaking expensive, I think that each interview builds confidence and makes one a better applicant in the long run. Remember that we'll have to interview for residency positions in about four years....the experience/options couldn't hurt.

I'm sorry to people who haven't gotten any interviews. That really sucks. All I can say is that I didn't get in anywhere last year, so I know how it feels to get your hopes all up and have them dashed into pieces. I decided to reapply (I know a lot of people don't reapply), work on my application, and get a job. My application still isn't that impressive, but it is better than last year's, and now I have more (modest) confidence that I will get in somewhere this year.

That said, I just changed my mdapplicants profile to say that I was rejected by UT-Houston.

I disagree! Humbly of course.

As Dr. Jones said during his San Antonio pitch, everyone at the interview has already cleared a certain hurdle -- they're already sure that you can handle med school academically, etc. and that won't come up again with the adcom. So, I don't think you'd be low on the piority...I think an interview in january is as good as an interview in sept. at San Antonio. So I would call and see...I mean the outcome can't be worse than what you're already imagining so... 🙂

I refuse to have potential future classmates down and sulking! 😀

Well, I didn't get on the UTSA interview list 😡 And I called UTHouston, they said they interview till Jan 7, and that if you haven't been notified by Christmas, no luck. Anyhow, I did get UTSW and galveston invites, so I can't be too upset. Plus I haven't been rejected anywehere else yet 🙂 Good lluckk everyone!

Okay, first of all...why was this on the second page?

Secondly -

I called UTMB, and the lady who answered the phone said the last interview invites were sent by regular mail on 11/23, so if you have not received the letter by now, you have no interview.

I also called Tech, and the lady there said that the last interview date is now 1/7, and the interview invite can be sent out as late as 10 days before the interview date.

At UTHSC-Houston, the lady said they have NOT finished sending out invites.

UTHSCSA - they will mail out the last interview invites THIS FRIDAY.

UTSW - who knows. I keep leaving messages for a Ms. Fluharty (spelling?) and she doesn't really know how to reply to her messages.

A&M - no clue...need to call still.

The only school I still haven't heard from is UTSW. The more I hear people talk about where they got invites the more I am confused about the whole process. I know people who had interviews at Baylor and UTSW, but didn't get invites to UT-H and UTMB. Best of luck to everyone.

I had 9 days between my Tech invite and my interview date. If you have to fly.. just be warned that the plane ticket prices are high on such sort notice.

When I got the email and logged into the status check page, there were two choices, and one of them (in Lubbock) was less than a week away. The other choice (in El Paso) was a month away. This was early October when I got the email, and I had been checking the status page daily. I got the email before I checked the status page that day, so I think maybe they email people automatically when your status changes. Hope this helps!!!

That IS true, they may have fixed it. I'm still going to be crazy because if it doesn't change, I'll be all thinking I got my first choice. But I'll know for sure on Feb 1. I'm getting so excited, if we can just make it through the holidays, Feb 1 will come quick. It's so hard to keep this secret at work...if I say anything, I could easily be replaced! And I need to keep working right up until when/if I move next summer.

On the topic of pets: my cat has been chasing his tail today. He's done it before, but it was extra funny today because he was doing it in my bathtub, on top of the bathroom counter, and on my lap (ouch!). He pretends to look away, then he flicks his tail and turns around and tries to bite it! Then he runs in circles like a dog. HAHAHAHAHA ! I live alone.....my cat is my only company....

Aparently, if your date keeps changing up until Feb 1st, you didn't match.

If you date changes and then stops. That means you matched.

If you date changes, then stops, then changes again, that means you matched a a higher school that you did the first time.

If your date doesn't change at all, that means you matched at your #1.

Yeah, I missed everyone at the interview. I hope everything went well for you and lilli.

My interviews were the best ones I have ever had. We didn't talk about anything except baseball or downhill skiing in either one. I really hope I get in there, its my #1. I will go to Dallas over Harvard (if I had to choose)

Check out Lane's post a few pages back. The jist of it is this....One of the verified dates on your personal status sheet on TMDSAS starts to change around the 15th. If it stops, then you supposedly match to your first choice. If it changes a few days later, the computer is trying to match you. It continues to do this up until 1 Feb. If your date keeps changing every couple days then they are still trying to match you, if it stops then you are possibly *in* somewhere.

We'll see how it plays out this year!

I interviewed with TCOM last Friday (12/03). The admissions people said they have two more weeks of interviews (I think three days each week).

I found a "Last Updated" on the applicant preferences....right now it indicates a change made by us, but maybe that will start changing after 1/15 because of the system? 😕

Anyway, I love cats, UTKB. I don't have any in Austin, but I have 3 at home in Houston (my poor mother was left to take care of them; they're getting old).

You know, they should make match day on Christmas. What a GREAT Christmas gift a medical school acceptance would be!!!

I'm trying to get a sense of how many interviewed students actually appear on various school's match lists. Check this out below (and I apologize if this has already been discussed before 😳 )

Well, USNews says that UTSW took 391 of 646 interviewees last year. That seems pretty right, as they interview very few, and their class size is 218. The rest eitehr probably didn't place UTSW first on match or got in out of state.

Nice detective work, USCTex. Yes, that's how most (if not all) of the Texas schools work.

After your interview (with a week or so) the committee meets and decides whether to accept or reject you. Then in early January they look at the entire pool of acceptable applicants (typically about 1/2 the interviewees, and a few "maybes"), and rank that list depending on how badly they want the applicants.

So, in UT H's case, the top ~250 are more likely to get in, but if your calculations are correct it sounds like they are willing to accept ~700 applicants (everyone that did not make it in the first 250 would get the "accepted, class full" alert on match day if they did not match higher).

1) i had a great day at southwestern last weekend. interviews were super laid-back (most relaxed thus far) and everyone was genuinely nice. sorry i missed meeting others there (would have been nice to put a face with a screen name)

2) i completely understand the "validation date" changing thing but here's a thought: if your date doesn't change at all...how do you know you've necessarily been matched to your first choice?? all you really know is that you're not moving up. that very well may be because you've matched to your first choice, but it also may be because you didn't get accepted to any schools you ranked higher than that school, so you wouldn't have any room to move upwards...you've been matched at the highest-ranked school possible (w/in the limits of being accepted)

It sounded like the validation date will chase down your first choice the first day, but will change in ~3 days to go searching for your second choice. Unless everything is done on the same day?
