Just thought I'd get in on this thread. Figured since UTMB and UTH are probably done sending out invites, I'd just one up them by showing up to one of the interview dates and going through the whole gamut with them. Then, when the adcom asks me why i'm there, I shall very cleverly reply, "I had an invite, by email ma'm, are you suggesting that I would drive all the way down from San Antonio with no invite and preposterously assume that showing up would gaurantee an interview? Ludicrous I tell you, ludicrous!, now let's have it, come on come on, quickly now...who am I interviewing with?" If that doesn't work...I'll put those portable defribrillators, that they have, to use...preferrably not on myself. Good God that man is comitted, we must have him!

I don't know if this has been asked yet in this thread, but I was wondering if we are supposed to send in our fall transcripts to TMDSAS. I'm guessing it could only help, especially if the grades help your GPA.

I've been searching the TMDSAS website, but I can't seem to find anything explicitly requiring the fall transcript to be turned in before the match. But if you are accepted, you will have to invariably turn in all updated grades.

My last day of finals is on the 20th, and I doubt grades will be in until the very end of the month -- perhaps even the beginning of January for some humanities classes. Moreover, I go to school in RI, will be out of the country until 1/17 and won't be back on campus until the 24th. I really hope they can just wait for the grades!

My documents received page indicates that my Fall grades are needed.....but nothing about when they are needed. I think I'll wait and see what they are before sending them in. Does anyone know if Baylor wants our Fall grades?

You should probably send them in. You're going to have to send them in for sure if you match, and if you are waitlisted, you should send them in so that schools will have proof of graduation or prereq's or whatever, so it might make it easier for you to come off the waitlist if they have current transcripts. If you're still waiting on an interview, they may or may not look at your fall grades. If I were you, I wouldn't mess around with it, just eat the $10 and send them in.

I would send the transcripts in as soon as possible. If you are going to be out of town when the grades are released, then I suggest talking to the Registrar's Office. I know at A&M and UNT there is a box on their form that asks if you want the transcripts sent immediately or if you want them to be sent after the current semester's grades are in. 🙂

I'm going to be at A&M on Thursday as well. I heard that the drive to Temple is close to an hour and half. It sucks for me because that's an extra hour and a half added on to the 3 hours I would've had to drive back from College Station.

About 85 miles and it takes roughly 1.5 hours. It really isn't that bad. Filo, who you'll meet and is really cool, will tell you the best route from Temple to wherever it is you need to head back to. Good luck!

In a distorted sort of way, that makes me feel a little better about UTHSCSA. I actually wrote and mailed a letter to the dean, but got nothing....no interview invite and no response. I guess I'll receive the standard rejection letter come February. I feel a grudge coming on....especially since I put time into that darn letter. When I told my dad about it (he graduated from UTHSCSA), he tried to console me by saying, "Maybe they didn't like me. Maybe it has nothing to do with your application." Haha, my dad is always worth a good laugh =)

Anyway, I honestly hope that SOMEONE receives some success with their LOI. I mean, come on, we're not asking for an acceptance--just a chance.....

haha..a grudge coming on is putting it nicely..at least for me...

try not getting an invite from ANYWHERE...granted, the app was turned in late, but it's really depressing to see that not even one school wanted to give me a shot...haha..makes me wonder what happens if i reapply...

moral of the story...taking challenging classes at a tough undergrad school kicks your @ss in the end...even a decent mcat score cannot save you...not even for an intv!..

oh yea..and apply early!!!

I would call UTSW if I were you. It's hard to get in touch with Dr. Wright, but it's worth a shot. I just interviewed at UTSW this weekend, and I must say that the school is absolutely awesome (this is coming from someone who thought that it was probably over-hyped). They definitely sold their school well, and I currently have UTSW tied with UTMB for my number one choice in the match. Anyway, if you're interested in research, I would look to Baylor if you don't hear from UTSW. Baylor is my personal dream school, and I'm holding out until February in hopes of getting an interview....

BTW, I always wished that I had majored in Spanish as well (I wound up with Psych and Bio). Guess it's too late for a complete major; I'm hoping to pick up pieces of the language during medical school if I have time.

Thanks for the info! I will call UTSW tomorrow when I get a chance--though I think at this point that will be a sad call.

This also happened last year and I called TMDSAS to find out what was going on. The lady told me that they choose the applicants who they think will most probably match. Given your stats and the number of interviews you've had, I'd say TMDSAS thinks you're hot stuff!

No my validation date did not change, but last year I had some friends whose dates did in either December or January. TMDSAS basically starts the validation process now so they don't get swamped after the match and they pick the people who they think are most likely to match. Given my stats, they probably skipped over my app


Anyhow, a lot of people will start seeing their validation dates change soon (b/w now and Match Day). On the other hand, a lot of people who will match may not see a change until after Feb. 1.

I had a friend last year who did not match and had a validation date in December. However, I think most people who were already validated by Feb. 1 matched somewhere.

(By the way, I know my scores aren't that great on MDApplicants.com, but they asked me to do it based on my practice scores which were much higher. I just hope none of the students ask what I made on the actual MCAT. 😳 )

I interviewed at Houston, SA and TCOM and have a hard time choosing between Houston and TCOM as my top choice. I want to do primary care and branch into public health later. Both places are awesome but very different.

figured cowboys and indians would get along in Texas, but I guess there's no love for us East Indians...all I know is that I'm going to be praying alot for this cycle to work out.

My master file update date has changed, it changed twice within the last two weeks, however my Validation Date still remains 0000000. Don't know what to make of it. I've been complete since Sept. 29th. and have had interviews.

Anyway, how's next semester looking for you all? I'm just glad I'm pretty much done, only need 6 hours to graduate next sem. In my spare time, I shall be thinking up ways to break into UTHSC-SA and changing their applicant list in my favor (Seat#1-200...Dr.BilkulPagal). If we all put our premed brains together, I'm sure we could devise a way to do it.

There seems to be a link between the change in date after Jan 15 and matching buit it is definitely not written in stone. I have been there and it is extremely difficult to wait until Feb 1 12:00.01 am, but that is when you will all know for sure. I cannot wait to browse this thread on that night as many of you get what you have worked very hard for.

Well, that's reassuring. I was thinking that TMDSAS had already communicated with the medical schools and that is why they were changing dates. I mean, come on, I'm sure that there are those out there who might have average stats, but interviewed very well at a few schools and will still match. How dare they try to get ahead of the medical schools? It seems like it would be a big, fat waste of time to put validation dates in BEFORE the match, as some qualified candidates might not match and some less qualified candidates might match despite their mediocre stats. Geez, this whole Texas application system is driving me nuts! And IF our validation dates change, we can't expect to match simply from TMDSAS' predictions. But now that I know about it, I'm probably going to be checking my application status everyday....that's what I get for being an obsessive-compulsive perfectionist! 😱
