Okay, so I just made two calls....one to TMDSAS and one to UT-San Antonio. I asked the lady at TMDSAS what all of the dates changing meant....she said that they didn't have anything to do with the match, only with udates (classes, transcripts, etc). I don't know if she was lying or trying to be purposefully sneaky, but I think we're all getting worked up over nothing.

The lady at UT-San Antonio told me that she couldn't check on anyone's status individually; only that all of the interview invites had been sent out (duh). Too bad I've been in Houston for the past two weeks with all of my mail on hold in Austin. I guess I'll find out for sure once I get back to my apartment in January.

Basically, no one was able to tell me anything definitive, and I feel like I'm back at step 1.

You are back at step 1 with an acceptance in your pocket already!!!

Yah, Tech doesn't give you much notice AT ALL. Therefore, be ready to schedule a flight to Lubbock (or an 8-hour drive!) at all times! I think I received about 1.5 weeks notice before my actual interview date. Hope that helps those of you still waiting for Tech. 👍

Thank you, Baylor is my top choice so of course I am really hoping I get in! I don't think it was gracious to give up my interview, I decided Lubbock isn't for me, but I do hope someone else gets the spot. Yeah, I was surprised at the 6 day notice to interview! I just interviewed there yesterday, and they told me that they are meeting sometime next week. The calls will be made before Christmas. *hoping we get some good news for Christmas..it's such a great program....

Thanks for the kind words. Knowing Feb. 1 is "the day" is somehow easier than being notified in late December. Ambiguity kills me. Thanks to SDN and fellow posters, I know it will be within a week. 👍

At UT Dallas you can make requests by e-mail and fax. I believe I have heard that at UT Austin requests must be made in person.

Dudes, explore the wonderful tool that is the UT Austin website. You can order transcripts online, and have been able to do so for at least 3 years. 👍

It would be much better for you if you could get someone *else* to write a letter for you - like another letter of rec from a work supoervisor or professor. If you got someone to write to the admissions committee saying that they knew UTMB was your first choice and your very committed to succeeding, it would get a lot more attention.

Otherwise, if you have something specific to offer (like great MCAT/ GPA, special status, new publication), you could write Dr. Lauree Thomas. This is the address you are supposed to use for all correspondence to UTMB:

Lauree Thomas, M.D.
Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions
301 University Blvd.
Galveston, Texas 77555-1307

You could also try writing to another dean or just addressing it "Admissions Committee" instead of to Dr. Thomas (it may or may not get farther).

But really your best bet to get another LOR to write directly to UTMB to tell them of your interest.

Wait, I'm confused. We can actually send letters of interest to these schools. I don't want to sound like a bumpkin but is this s common practice? Hope everyone is doing well.

Well, right now I'm in between interviews...did UTMB yesterday--the interviews went VERY well. I was quite impressed with the curriculum, Old Red, and all the expansion going on. It seems like a place on the rise. On the other hand, I wasn't a big fan of Galveston, and some of the facilities seemed a bit run down. Overall though, UTMB moved up in my book.

I leave for San Antonio tomorrow. Look forward to finding out what they have to offer--at the very least, I think it's a better town!

On a lighter note, has anybody beaten the pong that you can play while you wait for UTHSCSA's virtual tour to load?

"Validation Date" What it really means.


Ok, I know everyone has been freaking out regarding the "Date Changes" and what they could possibly mean. I have done some snooping, and I have found out the "Validation Date" has nothing to do with "The Match"


If you look on the TMDSAS website you will find the following paragraph under application timeline:

TMDSAS will be doing a "Validation" of courses on applicants that have interviewed at their indicated schools in order to generate a "Prescribed Course Report". The validation is a process where each course entered on the application is verified with the official transcript(s). ALL transcripts must be received in order for TMDSAS to conduct the validating of courses. The report that is generated, Prescribed Course Report, is a detailed report of the courses that TMDSAS codes as meeting the requirements for entrance. It will indicate if there are any deficiencies in course work. This report is then sent to the schools. The validation is the final step for an applicant to then matriculate, if accepted.

And there you have it.

If your validation date changes, it only means they are verifying whether you have the correct pre-reqs for each individual school.

As more of us send in our fall transcripts, we will start to see a change in the validation dates.

UTKB--thanks for the information on online transcripts. I seriously would have looked online, but my sister was bugging me to go see "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and I left the house right after I made the post. Okay, so maybe I was a little lazy as well!

sben--This was my take on UTMB as well. GREAT school, HORRIBLE place to live (okay, not horrible, but compared to Dallas or Austin, yes!). Oh, the decisions you and I will have to make!

I don't know what is up with Tech but apparently a bunch of people canceled their interview for Friday and so a bunch of other people were called up on Wednesday to fill the spots. And to those who did cancel, thank you. No seriously, thank you, because I would not have had the chance to interview if you had not canceled. But it was crazy, they called me in Houston on Wednesday afternoon to come interview in Lubbock on Friday morning. I did it but man that was short notice.

So, don't give up hope yet. Someone may cancel and you may get the call to come in and interview.

Oh and the wierd thing about the interview is that they didn't have a financial aid talk. At all the other interviews I have attended, they have done this. I wonder if this was just an off day or if they just do not do this?

When I was there, they provided financial aid information in the handouts, but gave no real session on it. I thought it was great, since that material is mostly repeated everywhere. At TCOM, I did pick up a few nuggets out of their financial aid presentation.

So I've decided to institute a work stoppage--and now have the internet open on all three of my computers just to spite him. Starbuck's runs planned at 1,2,3, and 4. Smoke breaks (with those cool bubble gum cigs) on the 1/2 hours.
