Texas Tech applicants 2009

Well, I think we can all agree that Tabouli's statement was friggin hilarious. I know I laughed.
 
I'd like to chime in on this since I have been forced against my will onto the opposite side of this argument because this thread is getting out of hand. 😀

We can all get along and be civil about this, and some of us can still come off as not being arrogant or "boosting our own ego." By saying I'm holding up the line, it's almost as if you're implying the second I decline admission is the second they call you to offer you admission. No one at this point in time is getting any interview invites, admission offers, or admission denials. The adcom meets every so often, so in time the correct number of people will accept admission and the necessary number of people will decline or be declined. SDN has been such a great tool to use in this process, but it can deflate confidence and cause stress and anxiety ten fold. Now that everyone is searching for this option to see if they're in the directory, stress has grown even more. We need to calm down and support each other, because in the end, alot of us will be classmates anyways.

I do understand though about being professional about it all; however just because some of us haven't declined anything yet doesnt mean we are greedy. I actually have family in Lubbock, so Tech is still a viable option for me. I really shouldnt have to justify or explain why I may or may not want to go there...and if we think about, none of us have been accepted anyways!! I may be denied and have wasted all this time and typing for nothing lol. But if I, or anybody else for that matter, happens to receive multiple acceptances, I think it is something that I can have time to consider options. We have all struggled to get to this point, and I know I've worked damn hard to get what I have so far. I'm just saying we should all respect each other and help each other through this time.

Its cool im sure it means nothing, alot of the people on SDN get accepted i just saw that post from earlier and i got excited.
 
i wasn't being hostile.. for the record..... apparently only like 2 people have the same sense of humor as me you can throw tomatoes if you want( i will just eat them) ... I will go back to eating till i can't eat anymore and changing my hair color....Well by the time March is over I am going to look like a rainbow cheetah with a J-Lo a**
 
I guess its whatever. I dont know what that last part meant though.
 
i have colored my hair so many times it has patches of different color like cheetah spots and everything i eat goes to my butt... when i am anxious i over eat and color my hair... does that make sense

Word. We've worked our butts off to get as many acceptances as we can and I think we're allowed to have some time to consider our options on a choice that could influence the rest of our lives.

Now that all the drama is out of the way, has anyone else tried this? I had no luck w/ my name so I'm hoping they changed this or something. I did email couple of my fellow interviewees and they said the same thing. But that only makes three of us for which this didn't work.
So did anyone else try this?

It's an old English custom if I am not mistaken. When an entertainer had a poor performance the crowd would throw food at them. Today it's more closely associated that you throw tomatoes at a bad comedian. Tabouli is basically saying that she told a bad joke.

Oh, and by the way, I don't believe anyone said anyone else couldn't keep their options open. It was mentioned that the proper etiquette would be to tell the schools you were accepted elsewhere and no longer plan on attending their particular school. If that doesn't apply to you, ignore it, but don't get offended by it. We're all friends here.
 
hey guyz calm down, i interviewed at texas tech today and they told us that by 2pm today, they mailed out 33 acceptances for those who interviewed on 2/6 and 2/13 abeliene and amarillo so yall need to calm down, check ur merlin status in a few days or wait for the mail.
I am finding this weird but texas tech has just tied with UT for first place on my list. I was influenced positively.😀

I am pretty calm...I hear you on the eating thing, not so much on the hair color thing because my hair would prolly fall out. I dyed it to much in high school (went through a punk phase). I personally do not think the directory trick is accurate but I guess it wouldnt hurt to check it out right? And sorry I did kind of got super offended I can not help it, I am a sensitive person. and It is kind of hard to read people through typing and not voice or anything. So sorry J-Lo...friends?

friends 😀 I just got some inside info about the directory thing, your not added until you accept your acceptance so you just have to wait... that sucks

Amarillo grows on you. I lived in the DFW metroplex for 10+ years before moving here almost 2 years ago. It's a nice change from the big city. As for letters being mailed out. Who told you that? I heard someone say that they would be mailed on Monday, but maybe they're ahead of schedule. I hope I get one tomorrow (interviewed on the 6th). I live literally 2 minutes away from the school so I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't take more than a day to get to me!
 
Would I have enough time to get to the airport for a 6:00 PM flight if I have an interview that day? Some people are saying the interview day will last all the way to 5:00PM. A matter of minutes will cause me to lose the flight back home! Please help if you are in the know or have had similar experience.
 
USPharmer, it really does take all day. I think we got out of there at 4:30, so I wouldn''t plan a 6:00 flight. And remember, you have to be at the airport an hour before the plane leaves to check any luggage.

If there's any way to get a later flight, even like 6:15 then do it. I remember the 2/6 interview didn't get done till right around 5.

It was Matt Schwettman (i think I spelled it wrong) At the end of our interview day when he was giving us the time line he said that they had just mailed out 33 aceptances at 2pm on dat day, which was yesterday (friday)

Well, I just checked the mail, and no TTUHSC letter. My guess is that it didn't get sent out on time to catch the daily delivery.

I guess I'll have to wait until Monday =(

I think you willl be okay because the last part of the interview is the question and answer session and before they start they ask if anyone need to leave because they have an early flight. I actually stayed for the Qand A because my flight left at 9pm but i was able to get to the airport in time to catch the 5:55pm.. I wouldn't recomend waiting till the end of the Q and A because the plane was boarding when I got to the gate, but if i wouldn't of stayed for the Q&A I would of got there with like at least 45 min to spare.
 
Personally, I would try to arrange to catch a later flight than the one you have now. Maybe its just me, but I like to take advantage of every opportunity I get to have contact with the school, and in this case, face-to-face contact. Just like you want to be courteous to everyone you meet that day no matter who you think is looking, giving them the respect to stay through the entire scheduled interview day is big to me. And then that gives you an opportunity to personally thank Mike and the rest of the admissions staff. Maybe its paranoia, but I feel this can still go a long way. 😀

Thanks for everyone's advice. I certainly wouldn't want to miss anything at the interview. Do you think I could get out by 4:45(how bad is the traffic at that time of day?), turn in the rental car,and be able to catch the flight if all I have is an on-board bag? The last flight to Dallas is 6:15PM. I will have to stay at the hotel another night if I don't get on that flight. The alternative is making the trip by car. Wow,that's alot of miles to drive-but, I will do whatever I have to. I don't want to shortchange myself at this stage of the game!:xf:

Does Amarillo know what traffic is? lol

I didnt mean to make you worry this much about it. Being out by 4:45 will be fine. I doubt there will be much going on ath the Amarillo airport

AHHH! I am so excited guys! I just got an interview invite from Tech at Amarillo! Don't know which date to choose yet though. I am so nervous hearing about the 7-8 hour interview. How intimidating is that?!

It wasn't too bad. The hardest part was that they put the individual interview towards the end of the day, so you're pretty worn out by that time.

Hey kloachh, which school in oklahoma did you apply to? Do they have special consideration for texas students? just curious.

I have a quick question...does it matter if I sent my reference letters to the lubbock office instead of sending it to amarillo...? Has anyone done the same thing before?

They usually scan the stuff we send in onto their database.
But sending the letter to Lubbock isn't a good idea b/c you are delaying your application process.
Send it to Amarillo, the exact address is on the website; under applications look for the link "where to send recommendations."

It came in the mail. Nothing came through email and there is no option for acceptance online yet. So if you haven't checked your mailbox yet then I wouldn't worry.

I applyed to the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy. I haven't heard from them so I'm not sure about the special consideration they have for Texas students. I sure hope so! Sorry I couldn't help much :[
