Texas Tech (Lubbock) c/o 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hope everyone has an amazing time at Spring Training

I got registered for classes and it was such a relief! At my school now if you don't register the first day of registration (a 2 week process) you won't' get upper level bios!

And I too will email Lindsey about getting a shirt!

Heading inside the airport now. Here's to a new school and "change we can believe in".

See y'all on the flip side, either today or in the summer!

Getting ready to head to the airport now, see everyone soon!

Tell me about how awesome Spring training was.

Grumble, grumble, $350...

$350 - To fly to Lubbock from my current location.🙁

Got an email from Linda Prado yesterday afternoon reiterating and expanding the instructions for registering for classes. And I just got the email with my eRaider creation credentials.

Seriously time to sleep now...zzz

well, i still do not have anything...🙁

c'mon tech, one of the things i really liked about you is that you were soooooo organized and on top of things during application season/interview day.

i hate being that annoying person that emails over and over with requests/questions while i know they're busy... oh well, here goes: :poke:

Grrrr....double post. Thanks iPhone.

I don't have anything either. Frustrating.

On another note: To everyone I met last night - I am so happy to finally know you! And apparently I'm very easy to recognize, but very bad at recognizing other people. LOL 🙂

Well, that's not nice to hear, but the only reason I can think of right now is that they're going through these slowly, one by one, by alphabetical last name order.

Oh, and I'll be lucky to remember half the names of the people I (briefly) met yesterday... gotta get better at that. 😛

(just kidding: i love hearin 'bout what's going down!!!)

well while you're meeting each other and having a blast say a prayer for me that i survive this up-coming week, haha. boo school👎

I just want to clarify a little about the past years' spring trainings as well as this year's spring training. First... I thoroughly enjoyed getting to host all of the incoming students around Lubbock... we had a blast. If you didn't like something about Spring Training... please let me know so next years Spring Training can be even better. As far as the past year's STs... there has never been much direction given as to how it should be set up or run. How much students like the weekend has nothing to do with how hard someone works on an event. I'm not sure you could call the 2nd year class lazy because I know they (specifically their class president) spent a ton of time getting things set up. Was there a difference in the STs?... yes, but it is all due to the dynamics of the group officers who decide how things are going to go down. We took the things from last years' ST that we thought could be improved and made them better. I assume next year's class will do the same thing. Why wouldn't you change the things that didn't seem to work? I'm not calling you out, but I just want to make sure that everyone is aware that the behind the scenes work doesn't always get noticed in the final success of an event.

Also, as far as being a drunkfest... I'm not sure that our going to Mesquites and Melt two nights in a row was much less of a drunkfest (not that it was intended to be) than last year's ST... this is Lubbock. We could have gone bowling or roller skating...both of which I would have been fine with. Take your pick!

Like I said, hats off to everyone that has helped with this Spring Training... all my officers did a fabulous job putting things together. Even you xx216xx! 🙂

Way to ignore me at the "scavenger hunt".. It will be repaid in full! :meanie:

Had a great weekend, was nice to finally meet everyone!

I'm excited to start with everyone that I met over the weekend.. Seems like we got a good group of fun people.. 😎

edit: Now I need to know who xx216xx is...

Just call I.T. and they will give u an activation code. that's what i did and now i'm registered!!

wow, sensitive, not casey, someone obviously gripped about my comment to her because I've been hearing about it all day from some other people. Look, the comment wasn't meant to insult anyone, i made it in jest. I'm lazy as hell, as L casey could attest, and I couldn't care less if you called me lazy so I figured no one would be insulted by the comment. Apparently i struck a nerve with someone though, and to the second years' credit, they aren't lazy, every one in school has to work hard and they honestly do. The comment was just geared more towards my personal dissatisfaction with the first night of the spring training that was thrown for us. I know the guy who put it together and I've told him before what I thought about it. I understand why he did it the way he did but it just didn't work out very well in my opinion, and i know it wasn't just some half assed planned event. I know it took a lot of time and planning when there are more important things to do so the being lazy comment wasn't called for. So don't let my comment give you the wrong impression of the second years and I apologize to who ever i insulted.

On a side note: I hang out with a few of the second years and when i think 'second years' i think of them and I like to give them hell so I wasn't even thinking of the class as a whole when i made that comment.

Well, I didn't get to go to Spring Training...but I did spend a few hours fooling around with the various eRaider electronic resources.

Among other things, I found a way to have all incoming mail to my [email protected] email address merged with my gmail. The method I used is kind of complicated, but if anyone's interested, I'll be glad to PM you the instructions.

Great meeting many of you this weekend! Looking forward to orientation. Hope you all have luck with housing, etc. Enjoy the next couple of months.

Will that work for non-Gmail (like Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) accounts as well? I'm hoping it does, but thought I'd ask first.

+1

Here's looking towards orientation, start of classes, and relearning most of everyone's names!

I didn't know there was a thread for our class! weird. Nice meeting many of y'all (tigerlsu, agshan08, and xx216xx haha...yeah I want to know what happened with you know what). Definitely think the class is legit.

Edit: xx216xx - thanks for the ride home, in case you forgot who I am.

It was great meeting you guys this weekend. I'm very excited to see we have a great group of people in our class! Enjoy the next few months off.

I feel sooooo far away here in Atlanta! Can't wait to meet everyone in July though... seems like you all had a great time- any luck house searching teacherman??? What are you planning on doing for housing Aggie?

Alas, no. I just googled for it : neither service supports a protocol called IMAP. However, the opposite can be done. You can have gmail auto-download your hotmail mail using POP3, and you can have Yahoo auto-forward all your non spam mail to your gmail account. Essentially, it's not too late to get a gmail account and join the cool kids... (with auto-forward, and the ability to send mail from gmail as if it were from the yahoo/hotmail address, it's like you still have the yahoo/hotmail account)

Figures that Yahoo and Hotmail are nicely limited like that. I do have accounts with all three actually (including Gmail), but I've just stuck with Yahoo because it works, and it's fine for me. I'll just have to live with remembering to log-in to my TTUHSC email.

By the way, this was by far the nerdiest part of the weekend: a group of people standing in a circle with everyone calling out SDN screennames... lol

Mine was hearing someone in our class trying to explain to a valley girl tech undergrad from SoCal we met at a bar what immunoglobulins are....um...yeah...

I already forgot who you are, kingofthehill... PM me your name so I can get the perspective back!

I'll just search your name on fb and add you as a friend.

Hi Ms. Holt-Olivas!

Thank you for the power point and information; i'm really, really excited to be at tech next year!!!

However, i can't register because i don't have an eraider account/password, crn, or the activation code.

I understand that there was also an email sent out yesterday with this information, but i did not receive it. Therefore, i still can't register. 🙁

at your earliest convenience please instruct me what to do.

Thanks so much for your time and consideration!!!

I have spoke to ms prado about this situation. She has stated that the registrar’s office has placed you and others on hold. Do not be alarmed, it is something they have to do with your file at this time. You will receive an email by the end of the week. Please, keep looking in your spam/junk files. Sometimes, these emails can get placed in those files. If you have any more questions feel free to email me. Thank you!

Katie

What were you looking to do, DeadCactus?

The registrar looks to be Dave Carter. Contact info can be found here:
http://www.ttuhsc.edu/StudentServices/contact.aspx

Just need a letter from the registrar's office stating I will begin Medical School on date x and graduate on date y. Found Dave Carter's name in a powerpoint, but I wasn't sure if he's the one to e-mail. Worth a shot I suppose. Thanks for the help. 🙂

if that works for you can you let me know? my insurance will need one of those at some point of time 🙂

good to meet everyone, and everyone from here knowing or unknowingly.
Looks like it's going to be a good group of people.

Just now got back to san antonio, this was not the day to be driving on I35

haha, sdn fail!😀

same. 216, are we facebook friends? actually, same question to gobaylor...
😛

wahoo come on end-of-july!!!!!!

we might be, not sure. I'm awful with names and faces for the most part and weekends like this definitely exacerbate that. Pretty sure I'm the only one in the facebook group with degrees from Baylor and UTSA and bugging everyone to play golf.

You settle on a place to live yet? I know that Sat afternoon was a little slow in getting to visit apartments... my bad for my part in that.

not at all.

no worries, I don't think any of us were thinking about the offices closing so soon. I drove by a handful of other places on sunday before I left to get a feel for the areas. Probably look around online some more now that I am comfortable with lubbock. By chance do you remember the name of the townhomes we were talking about visiting at one point?

No big deal... I actually welcome the idea of another trip up there before I move. 👍

I want to hear more about this story. How did this come up in context? What did she look like....

And the real question : how did she react?

ummmm seriously?
if you need to ask this, you need to spend a little more time actually interacting with people rather than trying to analyze other peoples reports of interacting with people. 🙄

and this? "what did she look like?"
dude, c'mon. toooooootttthhhhbrush.... and a shallow one.
