Last minute TMDSAS ranking question. I'm trying to decide whether to rank Texas Tech Lubbock or El Paso high on my rank list. I really enjoyed both of my interview experiences and think I will be happy at both. Here are my pros and cons list:

El Paso

Pros:

- Newer systems based curriculum

- Border town so a lot of patient exposure opportunity

- true pass/fail system until year 3

Cons:

- Farther from home (9 hour drive)

- No NBME exams

- School is not known to prepare well for STEP

Lubbock

Pros:

- NBME exams

- Closer to home

- Higher STEP scores (school is said to better teach to STEP)

Cons:

- Older, traditional curriculum

- h/hp/p all 3 years

- Multi campus system so clinical years may not be in Lubbock

Let me know what you think or why you chose one over the other!

For what it's worth I ranked Tech Lubbock above Tech El Paso. I had a much better feel there on interview day and the students really seemed to have a collaborative feel to them. The biggest benefit to Tech El Paso seemed to be the curriculum, but having NBME exams is more important to me so I can track my step progress as I go through my classes and tailor my studying to step. Being on the border will definitely have some opportunities, but I don't think you should sell short Texas Tech Lubbock. Its a major medical hub in west Texas and ends up seeing a lot of unique cases due to being the go to location for difficult to treat diseases/injuries for a large part of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.
