hey everyone, i'm working on the tfe section of the PAT and i'm really struggling. can anyone please explain me how the line counting method works? i heard that it works adequately well.

also, i have also looked at the huge "wicked sick PAT tutorial" thread and it wasn't as helpful as it was to a lot of other people. thanks in advance.

lets start with something simple

Letter%20K%20Coloring%20Page%20preview.gif

starting only with the top of the image notice how if we are to follow a line starting at the top left there will be 3 changes in slope of the line.

so starting with at the top left corner (which would be the edge of your top view and a solid vertical line) you move over about an inch until there is an angle change, that change in the slope of the line is another vertical, solid line on your top view. make a vertical line for every angle change of the top of the object, the top view will look like this ( excluding the horizontal lines on the top and bottom)

I I I I notice how the two right most lines are closer together

so your top view, including the edges of your image will have 4 solid vertical lines.

now for line counting for the dotted lines for the top view. the top spoke has all of its angle changes visible from the top so they are already accounted for. the angle change where the two spokes meet however is underneath the top spoke and thus needs a dotted line (done with a semicolon)

I I ; I I

the bottom spoke has two angle changes, so they would normally need dotted lines as well! but... the angle changes happen right underneath the angle changes of the top spoke, thus they are invisible from the top view as there are solid lines already in place

our top view is still the same as above. try the right side view and see if you get this:
