This thread is awesome. Unfortunately that means it'll probably be closed soon.

You wouldn't know an awesome thread when you saw it if your mother put it in your powerpuff girls lunchbox and labeled it.

So wait...where am I in this app cycle? Where are you in it? (Do you even know?)
it's not hard to figure out, based on your post history, you are, at the earliest, applying this coming cycle, though i have a feeling you're going to be applying the year after. it's not rocket science. if you have taken the mcat (i don't think you have) it can't have been any earlier than the most recent dates in Jan. how am i doing so far.

Well, I'm glad I've kept my posting history ambiguous enough that you're that far off. 😀

if you want to play it that way, sure, whatever. it'd be nice if your posts were less blow-hard-y like they used to be, but i suppose i shouldn't be one to talk

edit: not what one would call ambiguous...
Hey all,

I have a couple of questions concerning my proposed schedule...

For reference, I already have a degree w/ a ~3.8 cGPA/~3.7sGPA and am planning on applying for Fall 2012 to schools in the top 3rd primarily. I anticipate an MCAT score of around 35 based on previous tests and MCAT practice tests (all consistently predict 35-37).

So, here are my questions:
1a. I took (alg/trig) Physics I years ago (dual enrollment w/ state university in HS; got a B) and (alg/trig) Physics II about 2 years ago (at my UG & got an A). I am considering taking Physics I & II again but at the calculus level this time. My options, however, are to either take Calc Physics I-III (same material covered as Trig Physics I-II) at the 4 year state school I'm doing my chem, bio, biochem, etc. at or the community college, which has a better Calculus I/II sequence and a 2-semester comprehensive Calc-based Physics I/II sequence. Since I have not taken Calculus since doing it dual-enrollment in HS, I would like to retake it was well at the CC, but I want to see what you all think. Since it's not really a pre-req and I have been a consistently high-achieving student, I doubt a few courses at a CC is really that big of a deal but does anyone know for sure?

1b. I also took calc as a dual-enrollment and got a B. Since calc is actually better taught at the CC compared to the state u (according to a math major friend and from her description of each program, I'd have to agree w/ her judgment call there), I'd prefer to (re)take it at the CC. Do you think it's that big of a deal. In reality the course titles are significantly different as the other course has a name that implies some sort of geometry/calculus hybrid, whereas the CC course is simply Calc I. As a result, is it possible they'd simply be seen as two entirely different courses?

2. In the schedule below, do you see any especially good places to take 2-3 semesters of calc (3 req'd if taking it at state u, only 2 if CC, as Calc III is a co-req for Physics III at the university -- both are on semester systems) or 2-3 semesters of physics (3 req'd if taking it at state u, only 2 if CC) or would you suggest not taking physics at all

3. This is related, but what do you all think of taking non-req'd science courses at a CC? I'm planning on taking A&P I & II in the spring & fall to make my EMT-Basic more marketable as well as prepare a bit for the MCAT (not to mention, I'd just like to learn it anyway). It's actually about a quarter the price to take both courses w/ labs at the CC as it would be to take the lecture alone for upper-division human physiology at the state u!

4. If & when medical schools consider whether you were a "full-time student" each semester, I'd assume they look across schools, right? (E.g., if I am taking 9 units at one school and 10 at another, they'd see that I am exceeding full-time, not simply a 3/4 time student.)

With those in mind, here is my basic plan, so please let me know if you have any thoughts... (at state u unless "CC" is notated in parentheses)

Spring 2010 (15 units)
O-Chem I w/ lab
Bio II w/ lab
Human Anatomy and Physiology I w/ Lab (CC)
Basic EKG Interpretation (CC -- for EMT-B)
[neuro research & EMT job hopefully]

Summer 2010 (5 units, double pace for summer session)
O-Chem II w/ lab
[neuro research & EMT job hopefully]

Fall 2010 (10)
Biochem I
Cell Bio
Human Anatomy and Physiology II w/ Lab (CC)
[begin studying for March/April MCAT around Thanksgiving/at end of November]
[neuro research & EMT job hopefully]

Spring 2011 (9)
Biochem II
Biochem & Molecular Bio Lab
Genetics
[take MCAT after or over spring break]
[fill out primaries April-May]
[submit AMCAS June 1]
[neuro research & EMT job hopefully]

"Dead-Year"/App Year (Summer 2011-Spring 2012)
[secondary apps & interviews]
[biochemistry research & EMT job hopefully]

haha... we've both gotten a bit blowhardy. Maybe we should both tone it down a bit!

And yes, I have taken the MCAT.

LOL RITE? THEY'RE JUST WOMEN. IT'S NOT LIKE THEY'RE PEOPLE.

:slap:
Exactly, now you've got it! JK, I'm not sexist. The chance any of those girls are actually on this forum is extremely slim so no harm

no foul.
Yeah...front left's the only one I'd find attractive, TBH. The others are all... probably nice people (hopefully, right? you gotta have something goin' for ya...)
Are you implying personality is actually important?

Nah, I wasn't gonna go that far! [/sarcasm]

Don't listen to them, girls. They don't know what they're talking about.. you're all beautiful..

Jk.

The black one in the back is kinda cute.

Left foreground isn't bad.

Second from the right isn't too bad...

Left background is OK too...

the right foreground is the best

Come on guys, do I really have to be the first to put dibs on the MILF?

^^^^^ 3rd from the left (background); i'd hit it

Except second from the left. Geez...what happened to her...

wow.

+1

Actually, +2 because that is the same girl which the shirtless URM is getting ready to pounce on.

Looks like she wins majority decision.

I'd give her a +1 as well, considering the group, 'though I think we could all do better.... Well, most of us anyway....

enjoy it while it lasts

+1 for good taste in women

apumic, broski, the video isn't working for me

Sorry dude, not sure what to tell ya. It's a college humor video; you can watch it there as well or you could watch it on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_l_7TWf_oo. It's not really that great, though; just kind of funny considering the comment earlier.

Apparently it is, considering that you stalk threads for hours just to troll poorly. Sounds like a gigantic waste of time to me. For the most part, the rest of us are either seeking or giving legitimate advice, so our presence isn't entirely without purpose. I think it's you that needs to get a life.

Check it out guys, I found this pic of Etzio:

sp_1008_05_v6.jpg

Here's the thing. On occasion, you say something that, if said by a rational human being, would make sense. The problem is you lack the social skills to actually express yourself in a way that anyone wants to do anything but laugh at. I would almost wonder if you have some sort of mental d/o by the way you respond; have you been evaluated by a psychologist? It might do you some good....

Hun, you do realize that you've responded to every single person that's posted on this thread right? Maybe this is your way of interacting with others?

Etzio, you are one hypocritic broski. If you didn't care, why do keep returning? I assure you that I won't lose sleep if you don't return.

inb4 you are an internet geek
inb4 you take SDN too seriously
inb4 I am cooler than you
inb4 you have no friends

This thread has vastly exceeded my wildest expectations for entertainment value based on the OP. Thanks to all for coming.

 You guys gave me a good chuckle after reading all of that. Hahaha I mean how I interact in real life and how I post on SDN = two completely different things. If you met me in person, there's no way you would be able to tell that I am Etzio on SDN. The only reason why I keep coming back is because its hilarious to see people who treat this like its interactions in real life. Like you guys are actually buddy buddys with each other, and how you guys are so quick to pounce on people whose opinions differ from yours - like me.

Yea I have a low GPA, yea its gonna be one hell of an uphill battle, but as soon as I say "I will get into med school" or "I don't want to apply DO", everyone just becomes a hater. Ok the sarcasm and the way I say it may be a little harsh but its funny to see how quickly you guys are to judge and shoot down just because my belief doesn't match with my chances and "the statistics". Just because I want to be something so bad, even though my chances are slim, im "crazy" "wasting my time" "should look into other career options". Spare me the spite. You guys claim to give good advice, but that's only if its consistent with what you believe and what everyone else believes. As soon as someone has a different opinion than the masses, a different belief than yours, you turn the guns on them. Maybe all of you aren't as godlike as you think you are. Maybe you aren't entitled to "chance" someone like you always do because there are a hell of a lot of things about a person that can never be said on an online internet forum. Maybe all of you are just a bunch of pre-meds, med students, etc like me, who want to be the same thing at the of the day - a doctor.

At the end of the day, all of this is just a waste of my time. Peace.
