Thankyou for the LOR from a dentist

Howdy...and quick question...
For the dentist reccomenders, what should we give them? A thankyou card or like a fruit basket or something like a gift? I've shadowed in one office for quite a while and two dentists there, one a specialist in facial pain, wrote me a really nice recc. I'm not sure though what the proper thing to do would be. Send them a lil something along with the thankyou card? This was done about a month ago so I need to send the thankyou soon! Any suggestions?

I sent an OMFS I shadowed a thank you card, and the next time I went in I brought in some cookies/donuts for him and his staff.

I just sent a thank you card to the GP who I shadowed for one week. Then again, I didn't have him write a recommendation (yet!) or anything, otherwise maybe I would have tried to do something more substantial.
