The 9/4/09 MCAT Club

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
lol, gonna start studying for the semester. I want to make plans to go to NYC friday night. We'll see how well that works out.

I wish everyone the best of luck on Friday. All the hard work and dedication will pay dividends in the end. As for the portion the MCAT that is pure luck, I'm dealing with that by visiting the casino on Thursday. I hope they will accept all my bad luck.

Sorry if some of us started that trend. I joined in, not as a pissing contest, but just since we were sharing our stories on our preparation, whether we were doing good or bad.

Yes it did got a little side-tracked, and maybe not the purpose of this thread or past 'test day' threads I've been in. I can throw you a screen cap if you really want mine.... but thats not the point. I'll say it first hand, that practice tests are easier since normally you're calmer, thats the only way to describe how I averaged low-mid 30s the last two times and ended up with a 27 and 28 respectively. Take that for what its worth. I don't hide the fact that this is my third time on this endeavor, and this is a tough test, and you need to put in the proper preparation or focus - and hopefully life events don't get in that way of that. My last two times, my personal life was choatic, I shouldn't have sat for them but I never liked the easy way out and am up for a challenge for better or worse.

I understand how you feel, in the thread of my last test date I came back with my tail between my legs after not breaking 30 and people talking of their mid 30s and one kid saying he went in not caring either way and getting a 41. It sucks, and since forums are somewhat anonymous people boast or flat out lie. My first kaplan diagnostic was a 19 (two years ago), so if anything I hope that my posts have been positive in tone and perceived as that positive tone that if you commit your time to this, and dedicate your focus and psyche towards improvement and confidence that you can achieve your goal. Some of us may had gotten excited, and for that sorry to have rubbed anything in your face. I was thinking it more of how when I was a track runner, us talking about our splits and practice times and logging them - not for comparison to each other, but as a way of tracking our own progress and then giving each other the extra push we need to do even better and not settle for where you currently are.

Best of luck to everyone on Friday, and remember: be confident, focused, but stay cool - don't get rattled, its just another test, you've done hundreds of these in your life and you're going to succeed.

Thanks for the motivation. Best of luck to everyone Friday. Try your best and if it doesn't go too well, it isn't the end of the world. Someone else posted this on another thread, but lemme do it justice by saying it again:

- Life isn't about not making mistakes. It's about what you do after you've made one.

So what if your GPA isnt 3.9 or your MCAT is 35+. Keep pushing forward. Progress is inevitable.

Hey guys, just wanted to say good luck tomorrow! I just finished my last AAMC practice test today. Was excited last week cuz i scored pretty high for #7 and 8, but then these last 2 (#9 and 10) killed me on verbal and i dropped several points =/ It's probably the low sleep I got these past couple days. Anyway, I'm planning on stopping any studying until test day now. I might take a quick look at some writing prompts, but that's about it. Anyone else going to take the day off tomorrow?

Again, good luck everyone!

Good luck to everybody on Friday! :luck:

Mine is tomorrow. Can't wait till tomorrow night, regardless of what happens! 😀

Just took my last AAMC today and did fairly well. I know that people say not to study the day before but I think I'm just gonna do a quick review of my mistakes from the AAMCs that I wrote down and maybe look over a few of the physics formulas. But I definitely plan on being done by afternoon/evening time.

Starting to feel a little nervous now, just hoping that I remain calm come test day.

I'm with you there. I will be studying some formulas and doing some light content review. Just nothing too mentally strenuous 🙂

I'm doing a little content review the night before and the day of. Nothing that will tire me though. 9 and 10 were hard though

are u guys doing light content review in the morning or night time??

Verbal for 9 and 10 were harder so dont be too down..

I'll be getting up at the same time I plan on getting up on Friday and doing light content review then probably for a couple of hours. Take a break then maybe look over a few physics formulas. Hopefully be done by 3ish then go work out or something. And I'll try to be in bed by 10ish but we'll see how that goes.

What's everyone up to after they take the MCATs?

I have to go back to work on Saturday...and Sunday...

BUT....my plan is to bike the golden gate bridge on Monday to relieve some stress....

whose in with me? 👍

Good luck everyone!! I am stressing out right now. I am going to do a little formula review to make sure my head is screwed on properly and then throw the towel in and conserve my energy for tomorrow.

Working later in the day unfortunately and then most of the weekend! Probably will go for a run afterwards though.

Straight up relaxing, but sometime during the labor day weekend need to go over the two classes I skipped out on this week to focus on mcat prep. Next few weekends going to travel a bit. As per my athletic hobby, ultimate sectionals is next weekend - woo hoo!

My plan after the test is try hard not to cry and pee myself...

I'll just end up moping this weekend.

WHO WANTS TO THROW A PITY PARTY WITH ME!!?!?!?

I'm going to use my first post on SDN forums to say...
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
Less than 24 hours until it's over!

I hope y'all are sleeping now or atleast off SDN, but for any of you still on here good luck!!! Remember to watch your time, and don't freak out.

I wish I had thought of that.

Well.... this is it people. I'm taking it at 2pm, so I started keeping myself up late. I'm more alert early in my day.

I'm debating doing the verbal section from AAMC 10, just because my last two Verbals were terrible. Other than that, I'll be playing video games.

May your Verbal be like AAMC 4, and may your BS and PS be like AAMC 8 (unless you did bad on those).

Pity party? I'll be there.

I'm going to sleep in since it's at 2pm. If I get up too early, then I'll get tired around that time.

Afterwards, I'll be going for a run and doing some dancing! Rock on!

It's almost game time.... :luck: to everyone. Talk to you guys after!

Ah my original test date before i chickened out and postponed it a week...best of luck to u folks! At least itll be over in a mere 16hours! i still gotta wait a weekk now ahhhhh

Good luck everyone, I guess today(12:12 here) is the day. I can't wait for it to be over with. I have no specific plans this weekend but it's going to be my summer break so hopefully I'll maek the most of it.

I'm so excited for after it, I'm heading up to LA for the UCLA-SDSU game on Saturday! I'm in the band, and I'm so excited to be able to play my instrument again after all of this studying. Go Bruins! And good luck to everyone tomorrow morning, I know you guys will do terrific!!

My first post on SDN, and most of you probably won't see this before the test. But, GOOD LUCK to everyone tomorrow!!! Hopefully it's not too bad and that all the hard work will have paid off. Can't wait for this to be over with!!

Well, today's the big day. Time for sleep, I guess. Have not had a great few days, and going to bed at 3am probably isn't going to be in my favor, but overall I'm not feeling anxious or anything. Calm before the storm, maybe. I feel depressed for wasting a lot of time, and having over half of the TBR passages unfinished. Those of you about to take the MCAT, or plan to soon enough, don't waste time. It only comes back to haunt you.

Good luck everyone, stay calm and focused, not arrogant but confident. Just another day, and just another test as has already been said.

I have NO idea how I did. At the end of each section I just felt very "meh", not great not bad.

Magnetism question in PS threw me for a loop... the VR were okay... the second writing prompt I think I did poorly on, but the first was good... and then BS had a lot of organic, I found. No clue there.

This wait is going to be awful.

Just took it!

I thought the PS was about AAMC level, except with maybe a few more tricky questions thrown in. Verbal I thought was AAMC level; passage length was about the same as were difficulty of questions.

Bio I found the most difficult, it had 3 organic passages and some of the questions were rather confusing.

Overall I feel decent about it and I know that I gave it my best shot which is all I can ask for. 🙂

I feel decent.
Difficuilty I thought may have been just a little above AAMC level over all.

Took the 8 am exam- here's my breakdown:
PS- Murder- it didn't even come close to the AAMC exams. I am the last person to say PS was hard- especially since I rock at it!.... I took the 7/2/09 and the 8/21/09 test and this was the most difficult physics section that I had ever seen!! (I hope med schools take my combined score!)

VR- very similar to the AAMC level- which is a relief!!!!

WS- like it- interesting topics

BIO-hated it- it was another genetics test =( For all of you who took genetics in undergrad… smart move

Who else took the am exam and how did you feel about it?

I agree! PS section was RIDICULOUS! this was my first time taking the MCAT, since I am probably going to apply next summer.. but it was NOTHING like the AAMC practice tests, I liked the verbal.. that is usually my weak area, but it was pretty straight forward.. as for BS ..WHAT WAS THAT! that is usually my strong area! it was WAY too much orgo which is ok but geez.. and the bio was all genetics!! way to many genes and mRNA and all that jazz.. where was the hormones and homeostasis!! I can safely say I will most likely be taking it again in january.

8 am exam - 9/4/09
PS was difficult compared to AAMC
Verbal was very like AAMC
BS - was quite difficult.. my highest scoring section on AAMC..
W. pretty simple i thought

I have a question for the people who took the AM exam:
I was wondering how you felt about the ph and pka passage with crazy molecules passage… I thought it was unjust!!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone,
I must say that the PS and BS were ridiculously hard. I took many FL exams including the AAMC and must say that the level of difficulty was above any AAMC exam. Also, the BS was very organic and experiment based with hardly any physiology. I am very disappointed with my performance.

David.

i finally took this.
PS- This is usually my strongest area and on the test i was like wtf are you talking about? so it went like this 1) blank 2) B 3) blank 4) A 5)blank .
the worst part in the last 3 minutes i realized i had skipped a passage so I had to guess a lot...C C C C C
I felt that it was very difficult to eliminate answers. i couldnt use POE at all i dont know why. maybe i was just nervous. did anybody else feel POE wasnt working?
verbal - verbal is verbal, what can i say? i suck at it, end of story. by the way, i hated that passage about interpretation. i had no idea wtf the idiot who wrote it was talking about. he must have been on crack or something
bio - 3 ochem passages, confusing, a lot of experiments, a lot of irrelevant information that was designed to waste your time (and it worked on me, i ended up reading a bunch of stuff over and over again although before the test i kept reminding myself dont read something over and over if you dont get it, move on.)
Usually i am positive about most of my answers in PS and BS and i can estimate my score. but on the real thing, i have no idea. i guessed on a lot of questions so i dont know. may have to retake...
by the way, one word of advice for those who are studying: dont waste your time. none of that stuff will show up.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???

BS- I mean without taking genetics it was soo difficult. The collagen passage? I couldnt follow that.

PS- 🙁

VB- AAMC like

I honestly felt like all the studying -- close to 500 hours -- was pretty much wasted. Very angry right now.

dont feel bad. i have been studying since december. yes, thats right. every day from freaking 10 am to freaking 5pm. PEOPLE, if you are going to take the mcat, the key is DONT STUDY!! none of that stuff will show up. the best way to prepare is to practice reading passages written by someone high on crack.
but i do have some good news, today i got on the bus for FREE

Hey all,

so i havent really posted much on here before. But I am having a neurotic episode right now, and I need some peace. I just finished the 2pm admin. for today...and it was all good pretty much. Except, sometimes at the end when you pick score or void. PLEASE someone tell me that SCORE was the first bubble. because thats what i clicked, and i am psyching myself thinking i may not have picked the right one, even though i checked 20 times. void was the second option right????????????????????????????????? thanks in advance for calming my psychosis

Yeah, especially on the biology portion, so much of what I was forced to learn from scratch was not even there.

Endocrine/hormonal stuff? Nope.
Physiology? Nope.
Reproductive? Nope.

Just a crapload of molecular biology and experimental passages. And lots and lots of organic. I allotted the time I spent studying for BS like 90% bio to 10% orgo which was a horrible idea in retrospect; it should be more like 60 40. I found the orgo passages quite difficult too.

I totally know where you are coming from. I had to go back by hitting previous to make sure that I chose to have the exam scored. You should have recieved a piece of paper with your name on it at the end of the exam. I am pretty sure this piece of paper means that you are having the exam scored.

Oh yea- who remembers the crazy noise canceling passage…. Magnetism passage…. Insane heavy math chemistry passage… This so not right, the physics was impossible!!!
Well, I'm used to impossible bio sections from July 2nd and August 21st mcat. But PHYSICS- that was supposed to be my best section- I want to let you know that our physics section was much harder then the other MCAT- it was not normal!!!! WTF****

Man, I feel EXACTLY like you right now. Someone high on crack is about right. Add a case of beer and a couple joints with that.

thats what i figured. but it says one the bottom that you still get the paper basically if you void it, just requires no further action. freaking. out. i hope someone knows for sure cuz im fried after that
