monu1234 said:junebug, i was just wondering, do people ever ask if know othe random desi people just b.c ur indian... one of my eventual best friends at college first started talkting to me b/c he wanted to ask me if i knew this indian guy from his high school in cali (we went to college in NJ)![]()

Monu: No, doesn't happen often. Then again, I only know a few Indian kids at my school so I probably would'nt know who they were talking about.
crazy_cavalier said:umm, I know this will sound insanely ignorant, but I am curious... is there / what is the difference between desi and guju??
on a slightly different note... only 18 days left (roughly, no actual real/official announcement here so do not get too excited) until we get the scores back!!!
gujuDoc said:Oh and to confuse matters more, there are 18 national languages. Almost one for each state that exists plus the national language Hindi.
Hope that clears it up.

I think the other guy with the 6th finger is creepy too. The vein in his forehead always looks like its gonna pop.
I'll stop before this turns into another desi thread. Seriously, if someone starts talking about samosas I'll never come back here again.
jtank said:technically, its 2 thumbs, not 6 fingers. his name is hrithik roshan.
whats wrong with samosas? ummm, i could really use one right now, with some spicy and sweet chutney... *drools*
junebuguf said:![]()
Isnt a thumb a finger?....duuhhhh 🙄
Thats it!! I'm never coming back here again....Then again I am a pushover for fried food. Mmmmmm, samosas!
Is that you in your avatar? How do you afford your desi rocker lifestyle?

ajay devgan is GROSS
hrithik is creepy
dino morea is a cutie-pie
junebug looks like a desi tobey maguire!!!
gujuDoc said:By the way whom is Dino Morea?????
junebuguf said:I look nothing like Hrithik and why Tobey Maguire? He has one expression--perplexed. I have at least two....three even.
Is Dino his real name.....wasnt Dino the pet in the Flinstones?
On behalf of Indians everywhere I want to apologize to the OP for what we've done to your thread.

monu1234 said:ok, i'm gonna redirect this thread b/c there are more important things like talking about indian celebrities... such as helping indian pre-meds.
so i have about a 3.2 gpa (sci and cumulative are both about the same). but my first three semesters were all C's. and then i started getting A's. however, a good bit of my A's come from research credits and independent science project. i'm hoping for an mcat score around 29-31 (fingers crossed) and i'm going to do my smp at UMMDNJ. If i keep my current trend and do well in my smp (above a 3.5), do you think I'll be relatively ok? is there anything else I should do to improve my resume?
jtank said:quick question regarding SMP: do you apply the same year that you are in it or after you finish it?

monu1234 said:I'll phrase this is reference to me so hopefully the answer won't be confusing. I just graduated college, I applied in February of my senior year. I will be in the SMP in sept of 05 and will start filling out my amscas (if MCAT scores come in well) in the late spring/early summmer of 06. I hope to actually start med school in fall of 06. Sorry for the akward wording, but I thought alot of "next years" and "the year before or after" would make it sound confusing.
Guju, in response to your exctracurriculars... I was a varsity athlete in college my first 3 years (main reason for initial struggles in college), I was also associate news editor of my college newspaper my first 2 years. I also volunteered at the university hospital during my sophomore year. I started doing research my junior year, stayed an extra year to do a thesis. I know my volunteer experience sounds limited, but I volunteered ALOT in high school and I found that I was really into research so I quit everything to focus on that.
Do you think I should volunteer more just for the sake of putting it on my application? I went to a magnet high school and was heavily involved in volunteering at hospitals and an AIDS center and I didnt think I had much more insight to gain as a volunteer. Can you recommend any other activites that would be similar to volunteering but not as passive (ie, just sitting there watching people)?
I know this was alot and I totally redirected this thread, so my appologies to all.

gujuDoc said:just Wanted To Get Back On Topic And Say 2 More Weeks To Go. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
junebuguf said:...actually if scores come out around June 14-16, its more like 2 1/2 weeks. I just hate getting excited about a specific date and then finding out its still a few days away. My dos pesos...or rupees, if you're so inclined.
Anyway, what are you guys gonna do once you find out? Travel, get drunk, call up ex gf's and gloat, burn your MCAT books....
....I guess the one thing we'll all be doing is posting on SDN! I just hope the lame SDN servers don't crash like they're so prone to.
jtank said:wow, time really did fly since i took the mcat.
junebuguf said:Its just SDN...apparently you're not allowed to use 'SDN' anywhere in your title to prevent illegitimate SDN monitors.
You're still not done with finals? Are you on a quarter system or something? How does that work? Do you just go one from quarter directly to the next? No summer breaks?
I always wanted to go to a school with a quarter system because I learn a lot better when I only have 3 classes to concentrate on. But then I learned that you actually take 5 classes but they stretch it out over three quarters. That sucks. But I guess the advantage is that if you tank one section, you still have two others to make up for it, so it only affects 1/3 of your gpa for that class instead of 1/2
jtank said:the quarter system is comprised of 10 weeks, plus finals week. winter break comes between fall and winter quarters and spring break comes between winter and spring quarters. summer break is from june 17-sep 29. we have two summer sessions available in the summer, 6 weeks each.
the good part about quarter system is that more chances to get good grades, and the classes are split into three quarters, instead of two. so for example, physics, first quarter was kinematics/mechanis, second electricity+magnetism/fluid, third was electromagnetism/optics. the bad part is that midterms come up so fast since the entire quarter is only 10 weeks long. all the UCs are on quarter system, except UC berkeley, its on semester, and graduation was last week for them (i went to my cousins there).
hope that helps.
