the new and improved 2010 Acceptance and Waitlist Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can understand where you are coming from, however I would like to point out that another poster specifically asked Futureappsy2 how many offers she had received. I actually think her post emphasizes just how difficult it is to be admitted to programs. Even after applying to more schools than average and attending many interviews, a very qualified applicant received 3 acceptances. Additionally, there is a whole thread dedicated to celebrating with those who have chosen schools to attend next year. And there should be a place for a little celebration of accomplishments, as well as for commiserating.

Futureapppsy2:

I think you need to tone it down a bit. Congrats on your accomplishments and how competitive of an applicant you clearly are. And you deserve to be proud. But, keep your vanity to yourself. It comes off a bit pretentious and showy. Many SDNers are continually rejected and won't be attending a program this fall. I don't think you need to rub it in peoples' faces just how awesome you are. I think you should keep this info to yourself.

And no, I'm not bitter or envious. I was accepted to my top choice program. I'm just looking out for SDNers who were less fortunate this application round. I know how disappointed and frustrated I would be if I didn't get in and then had to read your posts. Think about it...

I have to say I disagree with this. I completely understand your intentions, McClinas, but she did after all manage the entire Interview Thread (and did an amazing job, btw!).
...
For months this board has been focused on the stress and anxiety over applying/interviewing, and now is a time for celebration for those accepted, and regrouping for those rejected. It's nice to hear a success story--it keeps people motivated.

👍+++++1 !!
I don't think she meant anything bad either and a lot of people wanted to know of her results! There are many others who have posted how many apps, how many interview invites, and how many accept/rejections they have received, and I doubt most of them did that just to show off -- it's anonymous here and I don't think you get much satisfaction from showing off to people you don't even know in the first place! We just like to share good news that's all. 🙂

Given that she withdrew before they'd made offers at a lot of these places... That's a good thing to do. 22 applications. It makes me ill to think about it. That's so much work and so much money. I did 9 and withdrew from 2 before they'd made decisions. And although she got invited to a lot of places and has a good number of acceptances, she was rejected at some places too.

I just keep wondering if one of those offers is somewhere that I'm waitlisted, but I doubt it. 🙂

even though it was asked of her, she probably should have responded directly to the person(s)... because I have to imagine it sucks seeing someone have it "easy" relative to those that dont get a spot... I just think it does as much harm as good... just a thought

I have 7 rejections and 1 waitlist out of 8 schools so there is a good chance I will not be attending school this fall and I am completely ok with what she posted. After all, if reading about others' acceptances bothered me so much, I wouldn't read the Acceptance thread. Also, she was clearly asked how many acceptances she had by another poster and it was helpful for me to see the numbers broken down of acceptances, interviews, rejections etc. as if I apply next year, I will probably apply to more schools as it yields a higher chance of acceptance. But when you apply to more schools, you are also likely to have more rejections. Futureapppsy2 knows what rejection feels like too, she has 5 or 6 after interview (which I find more painful).

In short, don't worry about looking out for us poor rejected folk. We are all adults here and responsible for ourselves.

+1 i think it is helpful information for future applicants. when i was applying i was looking for information on the numbers. it's helpful to know what X amount of applications can yield and i think there was even a thread about it.

For those waiting to hear from Pepperdine; I caved in and emailed them. Their decisions have been made and their sending out letters at the end of the week. Not sure if it's snail mail or email.

Good Luck to everyone!! 🙂🙂🙂

Thx so much!!! ive been thinking bout caving--now i know i just have a wk to wait.....well, east coast so mayb more ifsnail mail, lol

Sorry to break up the interesting thread above, but I'm wondering if anyone has heard from Wright State SOPP? I thought admissions said they would call accepted individuals today. Please let me know, thanks!

I know a few of you SDNers interviewed at Bowling Green State University... have you heard anything either way? I interviewed over the 2nd weekend (2/26) and haven't heard one way or another... Just curious!

Good luck to everyone!

Emailed graduate secretary who said first offers have been made. I emailed my poi and he told me where I was at on the list.

Has anyone heard anything from Boston University post-interviews? I've tried contacting my POI but she might be avoiding me...

first acceptance today...DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES!? YES!

OK so I have turned down all offers except 2 which I decided between yesterday. I informally accepted the offer at my top choice and I really want to turn down the other as soon as possible so that it can be given to someone else because I received a really great fellowship there that someone else would probably really appreciate. This school e-mailed me last week saying that they would like me to make a decision by this Friday because they have to tell everyone else that was nominated for the fellowship whether or not they received it by Friday. The only catch is that I have not received a formal admissions offer in the mail from either school - just informal offers from POIs. Is it safe to turn down the school I am no longer as interested in or do I need to wait until I hear back formally from my top choice?

Technically they cannot pressure you to make a decision before April 15th. They cannot change their offer or withdraw funding if you don't reply by a certain date. It should have been in a handout, but you can definitely find it on APAs website. I hope this helps

+1 i think it is helpful information for future applicants. when i was applying i was looking for information on the numbers. it's helpful to know what X amount of applications can yield and i think there was even a thread about it.

Maybe....

I agree with other posters that when I read her post I had the immediate thought that maybe she should have pm'd that information to the specific person asking. Or at least kept it to simply the number of offers.

However, I did find the break down interesting, even if it's not for clinical psych. Personally, I would almost like a thread after all is said and done (after April 15th) where people break down their general application outcomes like she did. Future applicants might find those stats helpful. Others may not. But as it's own thread, people can avoid it if they don't want to see that information. Just a thought.

Was anyone else waitlisted at Syracuse (clinical psych) without an interview? I was and I'm wondering what my chances of acceptance are if I didn't interview.
Hi HeartSmart! I, too, got the waitlist letter from SU. No interview here either, but I know some of the faculty and have a faculty reference. They admit very few students, so I have no idea what our chances are. Best wishes!

They can't pressure you to make a choice - definitely wait until you have hard copy offers in your hands!!

I got that letter from them last year and never heard anything else from them.

I literally just heard from Wright State, and I was accepted. In the interview they said calls will go out today and tomorrow, so there is def. still hope! 😉

Has anyone heard from University of Cincinnati post-interview?

Is anyone still hoping to hear from Yeshiva PsyD? I've been off the forum for a week just trying to be patient and let the responses come as they may but then I see that Yeshiva sent out responses on the 9th (Yesterday) which means two entire business days have passed and I have heard nothing and am very upset!! Maybe an 11:53pm e-mail TONIGHT like someone posted earlier???

I am very sad about this. Anyone know anything about their method??

I also have not heard anything from Yeshiva regarding their Clinical PSYD program. After reading that someone got an email last night I called admissions today. They said that they have not made all their decisions yet. I do not know if they just didnt wanna tell me my status but hopefully that was the truth? I'm pretty anxious myself

Whoever was accepted to the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Program... do you mind PMing me info on how you heard (phone/email...) and maybe even by who you heard from?!

thanks!!

Thanks so much, I didn't remember them saying 3/10 AND 3/11. Do you how many they accept by chance? And were you the first or second interview?

Could you do the same for me? I have been on the edge of my seat since I saw that someone got in!

Ummm...this is called the acceptance and waitlist thread. We all know how hard it is, and I think Futureapppsy2 needs to be applauded, not put down for her accomplishments. After all the hard work she did on the invite thread, a lot of people have been wondering how she did throughout this process, and have explicitly asked. I wanted to know too. I think it is COMPLETELY unfair of you to call it vanity to share good news people ASKED you to share.

Now if this was posted in the rejection thread, then yea, that'd be rubbing it in. But its not. We all deserve to be able to celebrate a little bit, and I think even those who weren't so lucky this time around can find it in their hearts to be happy for another SDNer. It's called being a mature person.

P.S. ...YAY FUTUREAPPPSY2!!!! I'm sure this process has been as exhausting for you as any of us (if not more with all those interviews), and I'm really happy that it paid off for you 🙂

I haven't yet I interviewed on the first weekend, who was your POI? I emailed mine this afternoon just inquiring about the status of things

I have not heard anything either, so we can be worried "together"! I am hoping for good news too... I think someone posted earlier (thanks to whomever it was!) that they are coming sporadically, one by one, over the course of the next few days. HELP!! I think if I dont hear from them soon I will need something strong to help me through it... 🙂
Keep your chin high- it aint over till its over!

Note I got more REJECTIONS than I did acceptances... what am I rubbing in anyone's face? Other people have posted their acceptances and not gotten attacked for it, so I really, really don't get it... Other people have posted about multiple acceptances, too, so I'm scratching my head on this one...

Here are my stats:

7 completed applications
5 interview invites (one of which withdrew)

4 acceptances(one was a waitlist then acceptance)

Boom! I'm awesome! Just kidding. Thanks for all the help SDN! I couldn't have done it without you 🙂. This is by far one of the most professional and helpful forums on the entire world wide internets!

No... they did nothing. Like I said, if I'm rejected I'd just like to officially know; stamp out that small glimmer of hope stringing me along and turning me into a neurotic. They must have some clue as to whats going on, but from what I see haven't actually rejected anyone. Is this like high-school when you can just break up with someone by just not talking to them anymore? Am I supposed to just "get the point" and move on?

Sorry, this whole process is so frustrating. I can't believe I'm willing to do it all over again next year if need be. Anyway, best of luck to everyone else who still has a ray of hope:luck:

Good Luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you:xf:... don't give up hope yet...

Did anyone hear from LIU Bklyn? I know they were making decisions yesterday.

I actually think that someone should start a thread with all relevant stats for people who are applying next year (gre, gpa, number of applications, interviews, acceptances, and rejections). Also maybe list some of the things that you think helped make you so marketable. I know if I would have seen some of the figures and things being said as an undergrad I would have saved my money the first year and just built up my resume for the next year.

Any updates? I saw some people got rejections recently. I haven't heard back STILL. I'm on the verge of...uh...waiting some more. 😴

hmm..i do know they called people on the waitlist and mentioned that there were only a few people on this list. sorry i don't have better news for you but don't lose hope. i agree the process can be frustrating. good luck!!

Have any of the City hopefuls that have yet to hear anything e-mailed and asked their status? I have another offer but really would like to know my status at City (even though it is probably a rejection) before I accept the other school. I am considering e-mailing but I'm not sure I have the guts to hear the bad news. Anyway just curious if anyone else has done it and if they actually tell you anything or if they just keep being ominously silent. PM me if you'd rather not post to everyone. good luck everyone :luck::xf::luck::xf:

I thought someone said they would be mailing out decisions on Friday even though they decided yesterday. Does this mean we have to wait for the snail mail to know if we got in or not?? Arrgghhh waiting for the mail is SO hard haha I don't know what I ever did before internet. 😉

It looks like last year they made phone calls to those accepted. Looks like they made calls the day of decisions and the day after, which if this year was the same as last year would be yesterday and today. Who knows.

Ok hmm well I haven't heard yet and since no one else has posted about it I'm hoping that they haven't started calling but will start making calls today! Good luck :xf::xf::luck::luck::luck:

i concur, I said this a bit back, but people said "match" is the most important thing, well Im sorry but almost EVERYONE applying to a specific program or POI matches in some way, so it has to inevitably come down to numbers and background...

I could make this but I dont really feel like being accused of not understanding how the application to psychology works 🙂

It has been created. It is titled: "2009-2010: The numbers . . ."

I dont think mcclinas was trying to single you out futureappsy2. This is something that everyone should keep in mind. It's easy to be hubristic, but the fact of the matter is that there is a lot of luck involved in the application process. There are so many deserving candidates that fell short this round b/c of factors outside of their control. We should be modest about our accomplishments, yet quitely content.
