the new and improved 2010 Acceptance and Waitlist Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It looks like last year they made phone calls to those accepted. Looks like they made calls the day of decisions and the day after, which if this year was the same as last year would be yesterday and today. Who knows.

I got an offer from LIU Brooklyn!!! I received a phone call yesterday. I was told official notices will go out in the mail in the next couple of days as well . . .

We should be modest about our accomplishments, yet quitely content.

There are no "shoulds" in this world, m'dear. Even for the Enlightened. You cannot prescribe someone feelings or even actions. It would be very wise to learn that before you start conducting any kind of therapy.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! 🙂 Do you happen to know if they called all of their first picks yesterday or do you think they may still be calling people today? I'm still hoping here :xf:

I really have no idea if they have made all of their calls or not . . . sorry I can't be more help. But according to what people said about last year it looks like they made the first calls over a couple of days.

Good luck to you!

That's an absurd comment. Ok, perhaps it's prudent to avoid "shoulds" in a therapeutic setting, but this is a philosophical debate, and your argument is a tenuous one. Are you proposing that there isn't an inherent conduct of behavior? No ethics? Are you suggesting that we can't judge a person's actions on a continuum of right vs. wrong? If the world followed your faulty logic, the legal system would crumble. Im sorry to inform you but society is built on a foundation of "shoulds" and "shouldn'ts."

Thank you, Enlightened, for posting something that should remind everyone that there are (should be) standards to be mindful of, even on an anonymous internet forum and regardless of how rough the application process has been. I think it's NOT ok to post whatever you want and other people can just ignore it if they don't like it. How difficult is it to be responsive yet also polite and - is this a dirty word - modest?

Well, I believe we were talking about someone's feelings (being modest, content) which last time I checked, our legal system does not cover (with good reason). Let's not turn this into some philosophical pissing contest, this thread is not appropriate forum to discuss moral relativism.

and, that is my last thought on the subject- let's get back to celebrating acceptances.

futurepsyapp2 should have posted her stats like she did because a lot of us are interested. As scientists, we should want the raw data. Also, the people who take offense should not be offended because 1) they are in the minority 2) are seeing bragging where none was intended 3) probably did not work as hard as future (anyone hit 22 programs?).

Anyone officially accepted or waitlisted at Michigan State? Still no word...

I just gave up my spot at two schools so I hope that makes someone day! 🙂

I hope more people follow in your footsteps. 🙂 Having no acceptances and being on probably 4 waiting lists, I have a bit invested in people making decisions. ;-)

hmmm how do you know they are the minority? Maybe people reading it just dont feel like sharing their negative opinions on the matter? That seems just as likely as them being a minority? and 3) really? Are you THAT ignorant? I normally do not take offense to these things but that was just downright ludicrous... there are like, 100 ways to attack this idiotic comment, but each one comes down to an ad-hominem attack and frankly you are not worth it...

BTW not too attack future, but how does the number of interviews have anything to do with working hard? Frankly, they might be less competitive programs in undesirable areas? Blah such an unlogical thing to say...

Thank you! I am on a waiting list and I appreciate you letting go of spots for whoever gets them. Which schools did you let go?

Good scientists do not assume their opinions are facts.

I REALLY do not get why I'm being attacked! What have I done that's arrogant? People have gotten into programs I've been rejected from, and I've congratulated them (sincerely, too). I've posted my rejections as well.

Really, I'm not getting how I'm so arrogant. Please explain. And why isn't AQJ being called out for being arrogant? He's posted his acceptances, too.

For those who are interested in the raw data, check out the 2009-2010: The Numbers thead.

It hopefully will not be offensive to anyone because it is a separate thread. If you do not want to know how many interviews, acceptances, etc. that people have received, you don't have to check it out. But, if you are interested, it is available to you.

People can feel free to PM me if they want to know the schools, I just dont want to post it. Both schools were in the southeast.

we're all entitled to our opinions and being able to express them freely on this thread. unfortunately however, people have taken this little debate a little too far. i've read through some comments and it no longer seems like it's about future yet she's still taking grief indirectly. and because of that, i understand if she needs to defend herself. let's lay off a little, please. if you want to discuss whether folks are being arrogant about their acceptances, please do so somewhere else. clearly she's stated that her intentions weren't to show-boat. this forum isn't about that. can we all agree to disagree and lay off each other- and more importantly, drop this. we've all worked really hard throughout this process. let's not ruin it for anyone, regardless of their individual outcomes.

Hey Futureapp - in my opinion (whatever that may be worth), you didn't do anything wrong and I've never thought you to be arrogant, pretentious or a braggart. You've been accepted to multiple PhD programs, ipso facto, you rock and don't forget that. Congratulations and I can't wait to see where you will be going on the official "where I'm going next year" thread

MOD NOTE: It is important to remember this is a prof. Forum and the app process can be stressul, so be attentive to what you write. I want this thread to be a source of info and not a place to snipe at people. Please consider this a friendly reminder. T4C

sjust so you know... I put in that I was not attacking you, I was just frustrated with what that other person wrote and was criticizing him, not you. I hold my judgments to that sometimes yes I think that when you post frequently the number of interviews etc you have that it is a bit much... especially because it might be misleading relative to applicants of clinical psych phd programs... otherwise my qualm was not with you

Cheers

can there please be NO MORE POSTS in this thread about how some people think other people are bragging or being insensitive. I dont think anyone here has had that intention. At the least we can all agree on that (I hope). If you were offended or made to feel bad, sorry about that, definitely accidental. If you're worried about other people feeling offended or hurt, don't worry, they can take care of themselves. So again...lets drop it please. Relax guys. Sheesh.

Congrats to all once again to all who havehad good news to post on this ACCEPTANCE thread (read: not debate the appropriateness of sharing certain information thread) 👍

Curious to know if anyone heard from RU yet...

Hi everyone,

I had an interview with York adult clinical (MA program) about two weeks ago. My POI said that we would be hearing back within two weeks ... so I'm pretty fraught with anxiety, and I haven't heard anything yet (it's almost the end of the business day here... so I'm getting frustrated).

I'm now starting to think that I was mistaken in thinking that I'd hear back from my POI, regardless (whether I got in or not). Can anyone please, please PM me their POI if they either a) had an interview at York, or b) got accepted?

Thank you! I just feel like I should have heard back by now 🙁

Hi everyone,

Many things contribute to someone getting an "official" offer, so it could take professors/programs a bit longer to get back to people. It is easy to work yourself up over details, so try and keep everything in perspective. Sometimes a quick call (or e-mail) to the program office can be helpful.

hey there. I was offered admission on Friday. It was an email from the program director. Not a mass e-mail so acceptances are probably going out sporadically.

Thanks for the advice 🙂. It's so hard not to get anxious, but I know I need to keep things in perspective. I just e-mailed my POI for an update.

I have not seen a post in regards to this yet but I still feel that I must ask...has anyone heard anything from Virginia Consortium post-interview?

admitted i could be wrong that they're in the minority.

id like to take a moment in the spotlight to say to anyone who gets 0 acceptances. i know how you feel, being a third timer myself. this time i got the hang of it and was really successful. the great thing about being here is you have a lot of people, including me, who would be glad to help you improve your app and get in next year.

Has anyone heard from Louisiana Tech post-interview? Its only been 2 weeks, but I'm starting to get anxious. Checking my email, mail, and phone like its my job! :scared:

OK so I have turned down all offers except 2 which I decided between yesterday. I informally accepted the offer at my top choice and I really want to turn down the other as soon as possible so that it can be given to someone else because I received a really great fellowship there that someone else would probably really appreciate. This school e-mailed me last week saying that they would like me to make a decision by this Friday because they have to tell everyone else that was nominated for the fellowship whether or not they received it by Friday. The only catch is that I have not received a formal admissions offer in the mail from either school - just informal offers from POIs. Is it safe to turn down the school I am no longer as interested in or do I need to wait until I hear back formally from my top choice?

I totally agree that you shouldn't be pressured, but if you have your decision firmly made, maybe you can explain the situation (the school will be thrilled you are accepting!) and they might be able to email you a pdf version of the letter. I have had that offer extended to me before. And that will certainly allow an earlier waitlist turnover for some lucky soul! 🙂

Good luck, and congrats!

Has anyone heard anything from Boston University post-interviews? I've tried contacting my POI but she might be avoiding me...

I emailed my POI and received an apology for the long process - not sure if there's a departmental jam or something - but said I should be receiving a call in the next few days.... :xf:Hoping good things for you!!

Aw, thanks! You, too!

Anyone officially accepted or waitlisted at Michigan State? Still no word...

No word that I've heard (about the clinical program). I got the cryptic "you were one of the top applicants we interviewed" email two weeks ago. Emailed them and got an email that basically told me they hadn't made offers but would be in contact with me soon and then... nothing for two weeks. MSU where are you?

I hope more people follow in your footsteps. 🙂 Having no acceptances and being on probably 4 waiting lists, I have a bit invested in people making decisions. ;-)

I hope so too!! My chance of getting into a program is resting solely on the shoulders of others who turn down offers...which hopefully will happen!:scared:

Hi all-

anyone from the KC area care to sell me on why I should move to Kansas City other than for the great bbq (I'm from Texas so my standards are high). I'm debating between that and Baltimore (I currently live in DC, as my name suggests) and POIs at both are great. Just hoping to get some opinions of people who live in KC (or Baltimore) or those of people that have been to both and see if there were pros and cons to each city. Relocating is not an issue, and funding is evenly matched considering COL. Match is too close to call. I've never been to KC but will be going in two weeks. Any thoughts on each, especially from those that can compare both, would be incredibly helpful. Thanks.

ps. if anyone has any general questions about DC - where to live, etc... feel free to PM me. I saw that a few folks have gotten offers from local schools.

Accepted to Wright State this afternoon 3/11 via phone call from Program Director.

4 waitlists is good odds

I only know I'm waitlisted for sure at 1 of the 4. For the other 3, people have heard back and I haven't heard anything, so I'm assuming I'm on a waitlist. It's not feeling like good odds right now, and I can NOT apply a 4th time. If it doesn't work out this time around, I need to figure out a new career path. Too bad I've been preparing for this one for the past 6 or 7 years...
