This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

Wagwise- FYI: In response to my email a few weeks ago, the dept. secretary at Fuller mentioned that the notifications will start going out mid march; acceptance will be by phone and rejection via snail mail. So, as of today I have been anxiously watching the phone. Best of luck!

ugh. that just made my heart drop. i LOVE their program...but didn't get a call. 🙁

i'm feeling your pain. blaaaaargh!

LIU has gone on spring break. All those accepted have already been notified. Wait list info is not available until they get back from spring break.

Hofstra has chosen not to accept me. ( Found out from a phone call)

I can't stop crying. Happy Monday everyone!

I was wondering if anyone applied for a phd in psychology @ Columbia's TC but was admitted to the master's program instead.

Anyone know if this happens a lot?

I applied the developmental phd program but got admitted into the master's only today...not sure what to think of it.

This happened to me last year (I decided to attend and will be finishing my masters this summer...you can do the program in a calender year). If you're considering attending feel free to PM me with any questions about the program - I know the website is not that clear 🙂

As far as happening a lot I would say that a large portion of the MA class originally applied for the PhD program, but they led us to believe that they only offer it to a selective group of applicants....not sure how true that is though haha.

I didn't apply there, but I know people who have been encouraged to take this route. I myself have an MA in psychology and am just about to embark upon the PhD. I will tell you this--an MA in psychology is virtually worthless. They are useless to the student, but incredibly profitable for universities.

If you ultimately want to pursue a PhD, your time would be better spent working in research--even volunteering/interning for free--and following up with the PhD applications again next year. RUN in the other direction from that MA program . . . as fast as you can.

If you're interested in the developmental route, I'd recommend looking into the New York Psychoanalytic's Pacella Parent-Child Center. They have a great externship, open to pre-graduate students.

Good luck!!

Congratulations! Do you mind sharing when you interviewed? you can pm if you prefer.
thanks!

Thanks for the congratulations! I interviewed on 2/27. I wish I had any info to share. Such a crazy process. I wish everyone the best!

I can't say how true this is. I also went to the masters at tc, under the auspices that they say that they accept students from the masters into the phd program. the masters was about 80 people, so, you can do the math. this year, of the people i was friends with, only 1 got an interview, and no one got in. beyond that, it is essentially a fabulous way for the school to make money. i couldn't urge anyone enough not to go through the program. wow. all the students were pretty convinced it was a nice way to help pay for the doctoral students. sorry if that was just venting, hopefully it helps people decide when tc offers the carrot of their masters program.

on another note, heard from George Washington University this am with an admissions offer. email from DCT.

+1

I didn't go there, but all former students highly recommended me AGAINST the program.

That makes me think twice of the doctoral program, too...

Why? It's not horribly unusual--in all fields--to have "cash cow" MA programs that essentially support a funded doctoral program. Granted, it's not the most "honorable" thing, but it's not exactly unheard of, either.

I haven't heard a peep since the interview at St. John's (Queens) but I have the general impression that they are going to be one of the last schools to send out their acceptances

just want to second all the TC masters comments- biggest waste of money ever.

Whoever got the UMKC acceptance, can you PM me your POI? It would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Received official wait list notification today via snail mail. If anyone was accepted and planning on not attending please free up some spots 🙂. Good luck to all those still waiting.

I've been waiting for too long to post this... just got a phone call from Pepperdine PsyD with acceptance. The taste of sweet relief is almost too much right now. Good luck to everyone still waiting and PM me if you plan on going to Pepperdine in the Fall. :soexcited:

Happy to be following up that last post with an acceptance to my number one choice!!!! If anyone is planning to attend this fall and wants to get to know a fellow classmate, don't hesitate to PM me! YAYYYYY!!!👍 Good luck to others still waiting to hear!

YAYY! Congrats Steven!

True...however Columbia's funding is not great even for their PhD students (they are not even guaranteed tuition remission let alone a stipend) sooo those of us who shelled out tons of money for the MA program tend to be left wondering where it all goes. Ah well. live and learn haha.

I'm waiting to hear from them as well...do you know who called you with the news? Congrats btw

I know a bunch of people got calls on Thursday, then nothing until today. Some people got calls from the person they interviewed with, while others, like myself, got calls from another faculty member. I'm not sure what order they're going in or how they're calling, but I did email on Friday to inquire, which might have pushed me up on the list of those to be notified. Good luck.

THANK YOU everyone who replied to my question! I had a feeling it was kind of a scam...

Does anyone happen to know someone in the developmental psychology program?

Xing my fingers I get into the fully funded + stipend phd program that is my top choice...and that I can gladly decline Columbia!

Has anyone heard anything from Long Island University-CW Post (PsyD)? They said it would be March 18 at the latest but I was hoping I would hear before then

Actually they said they are making decisions on the 18th and letting applicants know early the following week, which would be the 22 or 23. Maybe they will be done sooner though, hopefully. good luck.

I finally get to post something in this thread that's not whining or complaining. Nova Southeastern just sent out their email to me and I'm finally into at least one PsyD program, and one I actually liked to boot! I think there are more coming later on since this is the first day, but it really takes a big burden off me.

Ditto. All hope is not lost. I received this letter today as well. Naturally, I'm wondering how many were excepted and how their ranking wait lists.

The struggle continues....:xf:

Anyone received an acceptance, planning on accepting, planning on rejecting or anything of this nature to Bowling Green? Please PM me and let me know POI. thanks

Just got a call offering me a place to go to school next year

I graduated some time ago, but the professors were eminently qualified, the work thought provoking and by no means gimmes, and the facilities excellent. I recall one professor bristling that many students try to scam the system/take advantage of the name brand recognition of the program -- ie to simply get through with the bare minimum effort necessary. The quality is there, but it is a big program and it is possible to get by with relatively little investment. The option to pursue an MA is one that some students/returning students/career changers choose, as has been covered elsewhere in these forums. If you decide to go, invest in your career and get to know the professors, crank on your thesis/project, and you will almost certainly get lasting results.

Is the new George Washington University (clinical) acceptance today on the front page PhD or PsyD? Anyone know? Just wondering if the PsyD is giving out their response earlier than what they said (mar 22)

PhD.

Hang on until next Monday. At the earliest...

Wow, that seems disingenuous. 🙁

Which Psyd program is better? Antioch Santa Barbara or Nova Southeastern?

hi everyone! i received a letter of acceptance by postal service from widener university a couple of days ago. just wondering if anyone has any information about/experience in this program...if so, PM me...i'd really appreciate any input. i'm also waiting to hear from yeshiva and MSPP. i am pretty sure i am not getting into yeshiva since i've heard they've sent out acceptances. 🙁 but i won't hear from MSPP until the end of the month. if i get into MSPP, i will be making the agonizing choice between going there or widener...anyone have thoughts on the quality of these programs? good luck to everyone, and congratulations to those who have received acceptances. 🙂

I also got into Widener's PsyD program at this point I'm about 70% sure that's where I want to go! I would also appreciate it if Widener Students would PM about:
-their experiences there in general
- Sexuality program & opportunities of work with LGBT clients
- thoughts on jobs & debt after graduation
- My partner intends to keep her job in Manhattan, does anyone have any thoughts on good places to commute to NYC from in either PA or Jersey

Congrats! I also received acceptance from Spalding ( my second one) Now I've got a BIG decision to make!

Congrats on Spalding! When did you hear from them? I still waiting to hear anything!

Adding to more Widener-bit. PM me also? I'm especially worried about
1. Paying for the school
2. Admin staff: I know this is an overwhelming time for the staff, but Widener was exceptionally terrible. I can see it getting frustrating quickly if I have to deal with that for the next 5 years. -> A current student kindly informed me that the school is aware and hopes to improve in the future. Also, he believes that it does not detract from the quality of educational experience.

Just got off the phone with the grad coordinator. I asked how many people were on the waitlist: nearly 150... Is this right? That is nearly half the people that applied this year to the university's program. Is it usual for a school to have that many people on the wait list?

I applied there twice and was put on the waitlist without an interview or any other contact. There waitlist seems to be most everyone that applies. From my experience it is not usual, although I had a similar thing happen with Syracuse University.

Aside from those people that heard around the 9th from Yeshiva PsyD has anyone else heard this week? When I called they said they had met again last week and i'm wondering when they are going to let tell those people. Losing hope.

I haven't heard anything either! Hopefully they will let us know either way sometime this week or next!😕
