I plan on going...can't miss out on school-funded trips to Vegas! (And the residency booths. Those are good too.)

Damn, what school are you attending? that's a pretty nice perk

i actually graduated in 08 and wanted to check out the showcase to see if there are any interesting programs that i can apply to. hopefully i'll hit it off with a program and we'll see what happens from there

It's only partial...about $250 per conference if all the paperwork is in. Not much, but it definitely helps.

I hear the booths are fantastic...actual opinions from the residents, not just what the PD wants you to hear. Should definitely be a good time.

irish- while i do agree that people should exercise, lay off the refined sweets, not blame genetics for low self-control, etc etc. This little kid is not the typical example of overeating.
He was not on anabolic steroids, (of course). He was on prednisone to reduce the autoimmune reaction to his kidneys. He has been on it since 3 years of age, and that stunted his growth in height. He is at normal weight for a 9 year old, but shorter height. That's all. Have some heart. This little kid doesn't need to get blasted. It really isnt his fault.
Even adults who are overweight due to overeating shouldnt get blasted either. They get discriminated enough in the real world. They're alone, they're scared, and deadly afraid to even step outside to exercise because they know others will poke fun at them. Its a vicious cycle. We all have our demons, and we all struggle with wahtever.
We need more encouragement, less blasting, and more compassion. Whats the harm anyways in having a neighbor or two who's fat? healthcare dollars? big whoop.

Many people do lose weight from diet annd exercise alone, and more power to them.

You should know, on my 19th birthday, I weighed 335 pounds. I'm sure you'll agree that at 6'3", that's an unhealthy weight. And I do legitimately have a malfunctioning thyroid. I was on Synthroid for a while, and I've had so many blood tests taken on my thyroid level in the past two years that you could draw a constellation on my arm using the needle marks. However, I started watching my diet and eating right, and the pounds came off. I've dropped 4 shirt sizes and 6 pant sizes in that time, and I'm still getting leaner every day.

My rant kind of got tangential. Most of what I said in the first part of the rant (about the whole thyroid being bull****) was just an "in general" finger to the fat people who use that as an excuse, not so much aimed at the kid. Having been really fat and overcoming it to get in shape makes me even more volatile towards the people who are fat but would rather play the victim than do anything about it (not the people who are fat and acknowledge/enjoy being fat...I like to party with those people, they're some of the most lively and jolly people you'll ever meet).

You can call me a jerk, but I blame obese people for why America wastes so much energy blasting the AC in public places. I attribute the wastefully cold temperatures to preventing obese people from passing out and having to call an ambulance to rescue them. :d I get so irritated with obese people because medical care is a limited resource and they're wasting this resource on something that is totally preventable. I see obese people like people who don't put on their seat belts, extra unnecessary and preventable risk of wasting society's precious commodity, and they should receive a ticket. I think it's cruel but helpful to make fun of fat people for their own sake and for the sake of society. I would never torture fat people and embarrass them in public, but I think the level of shame for being fat ought to be preserved. So I wont say it to anyone's face (unless of course they're my extremely close friend and they know I love them), but I'm gonna say that obese people are unsexy and they smell after they come back from the bathroom because they can't reach to wipe their butts sufficiently. :d

The world is a horrible place, and nothing is going to change. You'll come to realize it more and more as you get older 🙁

Yes, you guys bring up excellent points. Weight loss does become easier with the right attitude and work ethic. i also agree there is all the incentive(health, economic, social) to combat obesity.

While that was harsh, I'm still going to enjoy the fact that one of the seasoned veteran pharmacists on this board backed me up.

I wouldn't quite say he was backing you up, just that he was reiterating the point that I already clarified: I suck at the internet.

Of course I could be totally wrong and he'll quote me saying, "No, I was backing him up." And I'm sure that'll make for a good laugh

WVU - I'm eating my first ever Sheetz sub. Not too shabby.

I'm from northeastern MD, where WaWa is king. But they didn't have all the food stuff when I was a kid.

Wawa is alright, in Southern NJ there's one at every corner.

i mean they have a lot of good stuff (hot dogs, chicken fingers, sandwiches, etc) but i guess it can get tiring after a while.

they have a good donut selection too

*sigh*

FARMINGTON, W.Va. -- A man was arrested Thursday after allegedly breaking into a Farmington home and having sex with the dog inside, according to a criminal complaint filed in Marion County Magistrate Court.

Christopher Bagwell, 26, of Mannington, broke into a home on Wiley Street in Farmington on July 8 while the homeowner was at work, according to a friend of the homeowner. The friend had stopped to drop off some of the owner's possessions.

She said she looked into the house and saw Bagwell having sex with the homeowner's dog, a male Australian shepherd, border collie mix, according to the complaint.

"His pants were down around his ankles and the dog was making an awful sound," according to the complaint.

This is like the 4th dog rapist this year so far in WV. Jesus H....

What cracks me up is that the dude breaks into a neighbors house to rape a dog. And then the paper goes on to describe the exact breed of the dog. lmoa...I swear to god, a man could make a living reporting on all of the weird ass police blotters in WV...

How about some more...and mind you, this is all on the same blotter page from the Chas town Gazette...

CHARLESTON, W.Va -- A Charleston woman was charged with child neglect with injury Friday, after her four-year-old son shot himself in the leg.

Hannah Danielle Workman, 24, was arrested after she brought her toddler to CAMC Women and Children's Hospital around 10:30 a.m. Friday with a gunshot wound to his lower leg.

Workman told police that her boyfriend, a 16-year-old boy, brought the gun into her West Side home, according to the criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrates Court.

It's like in Highlight Magazine. How many ****ed up things can you find in one article?

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Emergency cleanup crews boarded up a room at the Motel 6 in Cross Lanes after authorities arrested three people for allegedly operating a methamphetamine lab out of the hotel.

Who the **** runs a meth lab out of a Motel 6?

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- When police served a search warrant on the Mallo home June 15, they found Trina Mallo's 6-year-old daughter asleep in a bedroom with dozens of knives and cleavers, said Detective Adam Kuhner of the Charleston Police Department.

A preliminary hearing for Trina Mallo, who is charged with child neglect, was held Friday in front of Kanawha County Magistrate Jack Pauley. The case was bound over to the grand jury and she remains in jail on $25,000 bail.

A 14-year-old member of the Mallo family is charged with killing 82-year-old Phyllis Jean Phares, who lived across from the family house on Frame Street on Charleston's West Side.

The 14-year-old's two brothers, who also lived in the Frame Street house, are each charged with sexual assault.

Jesus....that's worse than that one above...

mind you that Charleston is the largest "city" in WV.

so proud you want to move to Pennsylvania...makes sense!

PA's got it going on. And when you consider that it's surrounded by states like Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York...forget big fish in a small pond, Penna is a whale in a fishbowl.

But your neighbors are puppy rapers.

At least his neighbors give him something to talk about. Let's hear about your neighbors. Oh, did they just put new shingles on the roof? Very exciting stuff. Do go on...

Yeah, I know. And they follow you too. I mean, wherever I go...

I'm gonna take the high road and not finish that sentence. If anybody else wants to, feel free.

I thought you were from NY! Where's your NY pride?? :d Wait, don't tell me you're originally from PA........

No, I'm from New York. Born in Springville, NY, raised in Springville, NY, still live in Springville, NY. Where's my NY pride? Probably around the same place that my state tax money is. I have no idea where that's at either. Probably into some crooked politicians pocket.

If Mighty Taco and the Sabres both were both located in Ontario, I'd move there yesterday.

Everyone knows NJ is the armpit of America. Smells like hot garbage. :d

ever been to NJ to make that kind of statement? not taking offense or anything, yeah when you fly into EWR all you see are smokestacks and the swamp of the Meadowlands... but there's a lot more to NJ than that. It is after all one of the richest states (in terms of household income) in the US

and this is coming from a person who is not crazy about the state.

Traitor!! Don't hate on the 0% tax on clothes under $110. Mighty Taco? Sabres? What foreign ass part of NY are you from? :d Actually, NYS and NYC are like two different states. You're from the other part of NY.

Gee, you didn't pick up on that for the three months or so where my location was listed as "Buffalo"? You're a quick one, aren't you. 😉

Traitor? I can't help it if Toronto's got it going on and New York...doesn't.

You've never had Mighty Taco or been to a Sabres game? You poor thing. You and your boyfriend better take a road trip out this way sometime. We're going to eat at Mighty, and then we're going to HSBC for a good old hockey game.

I'm actually from NJ. HAHA. I lived in Leonia when I was like 1st grade. :d The only thing NJ has going for it is the Garden State Mall.... I feel like I'm rich when I shop there cus everything is so cheap! 🙂

We're going to the HSBC bank for a hockey game? lol.

QFT.

I'd be in Toronto, too...but there are less jobs in Toronto than in Jersey or Philly right now.

False. Incorrect. The opposite of true. I know dozens of people in Ontario. One of them just finished up placement at a hospital near Ottawa. According to her, there are still plenty of jobs available up there. Plus, you have a PharmD, as opposed to a BSc, which puts you ahead of the game. Harder to find jobs right in downtown T-dot, but the ring of saturation is small indeed.

HSBC Arena. Google it. 🙂

Ok...so why is it that I've looked at the job board for every hospital in Toronto to Missassagua to Markham and I couldn't see any hospital jobs....like 3 months ago... and I found one part time job. And everywhere else in Ontario is lame. Kinda like Austin and the rest of Texas.

But if your friend knows of these jobs in the 'burbs of Toronto, do tell. Also, are they still paid crap? $65k a year is balls.

Couldn't tell you why they're not posted. As for the salary, I've heard of pharmacists with a PharmD in Ontario making 100K, especially the hospital folk. I haven't really looked ultra deep into it, since me getting a job anywhere is still four years off, but from talking to people around Ontario, checking out several Toronto-based forums as well as a few of those sites that show salary statistics, it seems that Ontario is a fairly lucrative market.

****, hook me up with these other forums.

I was looking at the sample exams for their boards...I'm pretty sure I could show up tomorrow and kill them. I'm reading the practical exam patient profiles and I knew exactly what they were going to go for like three sentences in. The intro standard up there is still only a BS...and honestly, I can kinda tell based on what the exams look like.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but its really not that tough to get licensed up there, right? An ACPE school grad just has to intern for like 3 months, take the law exam, the knowledge exam, and that it, right?

Fair enough lol, you're one of our own. Where have you defected to ever since?

I am bitter. Bitter that so many people actually sit back and take the cop-out road that I described in my previous post. Seriously, people. You're not going to exercise, you're going to eat nothing but sugary processed garbage, and then you're going to claim it's genetic? That's, like, friggin' stupid! Genetics may make it more challenging to take weight off; they don't make it impossible.

He's on steroids? All the more reason he should be in shape! (And yes, I know what steroids do...as an avid wrestling fan, I know all about the beef needle). And if his kidneys are in bad condition, all the more reason he should be eating a healthy diet. If he's singing about cupcakes, the odds are pretty good that he's had more than a few of them in his life.

While that was harsh, I'm still going to enjoy the fact that one of the seasoned veteran pharmacists on this board backed me up.

So because a kid might have had some treats in his life, he deserves to be fat?

If you saw the video of the kid where it shows a picture of him before he went on steroid treatment, before his immune system started attacking his kidneys, he was almost underweight.

I'm all ready to attack parents who give their kids nothing but junk, don't get them out of the house, etc., but this kid seems to have gotten the raw deal.

Congrats on losing the weight.

And it is frustrating when people are overweight, complain about being overweight, and then consistently do the wrong thing to take care of the problem.

But I do have sympathy for those that are overweight and are trying to do something to change it. It can be so easy to gain weight and hard to do everything you should to keep/get it off.

Your quote from Socrates about knowing nothing but your ignorance is quite apropos. Stereotype much?

Wow. I mean, wow. Being overweight and/or obese is a risk factor for disease, not a definite factor. You can be overweight and still have good cardiovascular function, etc.

And the overweight and obese people I know seem to have no problem keeping themselves clean. I would love for you to tell this to any obese friends and family members you have and see how much respect they have for you.

(So I realize I'm responding to topics that have long ago been abandoned by everyone else, but I just had to respond to this one. Sorry to bring up old topics. I hear a lot of obesity research where I work, and I get frustrated at blatant stereotyping of any group of people.)

Correct. The Ontario College of Pharmacists (www.ocpinfo.com) has rules set up for foreign graduates, but then has a completely different set of rules for US graduates. They say that you intern for a minimum of 12 weeks, then you have to take the law exam and Canada's licensing exam, and you're all set.

lollll hahahaha. We're going to HSBC bank for a hockey game!! Aw!

I think if HSBC bank formed a team, they'd probably be more competitive than the Sabres. At least they'd hopefully care more about hockey than about going out and scoring some ass at Soho post-game.

Nah, they go to Quote. I hate that place.

Soho is actually pretty decent during the summer when you can get out on the roof.
