How's the studying going? (I feel like I'm alone in taking this test date)

More detailed Average..
AAMC 10 -- 8/06/2012 30 (10/9/11)

AAMC 3 8/17/2012 30 (12/9/9)

AAMC 7 8/22/2012 31 (11/8/12)

AAMC 5 8/26/2012 34 (12/10/12)

AAMC 8 8/30/2012 32 (13/10/9)

AAMC 9 9/03/2012 33 (13/10/10)

AAMC 11 9/05/2012 32 (13/9/10)

Actual PS:8 VR:8 BS:11 (27O)

I don't feel down... even though that score is lower than all of my practice tests, especially that physics section. I wasn't stressed on the exam, I think I was to clam actually.

I see this as an opportunity to kick MCAT's ass the next time I do it.

Just want to say I know what you're feeling with regard to PS. The mcat is stupidly variable. To future test takers, taking the aamc exams is not sufficient. Everybody probably knows this already, but just want to reiterate this because the reality is that PS on test day tested my weaker topics and caught me off guard. The aamc exams aren't sufficient to catch all your weaknesses (thought I had hoped so). I think I'm gonna take this test again. This is depressing.

AAMC Average: 28
Goldstandard Average: 28
Previous Mcat: 25M
Goal: >30
Predicted: IDK
Actual: 32Q (9 PS 9 VR 14 BS)

Very happy about the 32 but don't know about my breakdown. I think the breakdown may hurt me what do you guys think?

Wow. nice BS score. Did you feel like you got that score coming out? Way to bring it on test day too. Wish I could say the same for myself :🙁

+1

Including the actual exam and the AAMC practice exams, my BS score has ranged from 11-15.

wow, going into the actual exam my highest aamc was a 23, then i wound up with a 27 on the real thing (10/7/10) was hoping to do a bit better but at the same time i'm just glad i didnt completely bomb it since I didn't have the most confidence after finishing that exam

So...I know I've been sort of a debbie downer on this thread....so I thought I would post something inspirational for a change. It's something I like to watch in moments like these when I feel down or worry if I'm adequate enough. For those of you who got what you wanted...congrats! To those, who didn't there's always next time. I haven't decided whether or not to retake, but if I do, I will be keeping this video in mind:

AAMC Average: 12/11/11
Goal: 33+
Predicted: 11/10/10
Actual:

I felt terrible after the real deal. Normally I feel pretty good after physical sciences but it was all down hill after the first question... I guess we'll see if people usually do around their average despite post test feeling!

For future people who neurotically look at old test threads after taking yours (which I also did), don't focus on your post test feeling. I seriously almost voided because of how I felt after BS but I ended up doing better than my average.

this isn't fair... how are you guys scoring below 30 in your practice exams and pounding 30+ in your actual exam?

my aamc avg was 32-35.. i got a 28S
so discouraging.. waste of a good writing section mark too considering they're getting rid of it in january.

12 PS 10 VR 10 BS = 32L (L HAHAHA seriously?... guess the L is there to remind me where I came from...tempted to send that in for a regrade) I was a psychology major so I'm happy with the bio score, felt I rocked PS and was unsure on VR (practice tests from 10-13).

Congrats to all! Even if you didn't get the score you wanted, I mean it, congratulations! This has been quite an experience for all of us and it took great courage to get to this point even. For those retaking the exam in the future, your time will come. I retook and went from a 24 to a 32; I hope that offers you some comfort. Sometimes, you just have one of those crappy days and you can mourn it, no one should tell you otherwise.
But in a little while, you have to get back up and try your heart out the next time. Honestly, I'm proud of those who got a good score, but I'm more proud of those of you who will push yourself to try again. PM if anyone wants some advice on how to improve; I'm not an expert, I've just been there before too.

AAMC 3 (29 January): PS 11 VR 12 BS 9 (32)

Then I took general chemistry II, organic chemistry II, biochemistry, physiology, and genetics this past spring...

AAMC 10 (10 June): PS 14 VR 11 BS 13 (38)
AAMC 7 (26 August): PS 13 VR 11 BS 12 (36)
AAMC 11 (6 September): PS 11 VR 11 BS 15 (37)

7 September 2012 MCAT: PS 12 VR 11 BS 14 (37M)

The M in writing surprised me a little. My essays were snoozefests for sure (the first more than the second), but I didn't think either was particularly awful.

At any rate, I am so over it. :highfive:

Not too proud of my scores but I'll post anyway. Maybe there are others out there with a similar experience?

1st MCAT: 11 PS, 7 VS, 8 BS = 26
2nd MCAT: 8 PS, 10 VS, 9 BS = 27

Basically, my biggest fear came true and my PS went down a lot. Okay, I lied. My biggest fear was doing worse lol. Second biggest then. I only had 2 weeks to study and I concentrated on BS and VS.... I'm not a native English speaker so I practiced a lot to get the reading timing down and improve comprehension for the retake. I guess I sort of neglected PS and got rusty 🙁

I was a retaker who previously took the Jan 2011 MCAT

1/28/2011 MCAT 32Q (11P, 11V, 10B)
Practice Tests Ranged from 28-35

For this test I made sure to focus on doing more practice problems. I also had 5 weeks of uninterrupted study time before the test (unlike for the Jan 2011 MCAT), which was extremely helpful.

AAMC #3 - 35 (13P, 9V, 13B)
AAMC #4 - 40 (13P, 12V, 15B)
AAMC #5 - 35 (12P, 11V, 12B)
AAMC #10 - 35 (12P, 12V, 11B)
AAMC #11 - 35 (14P, 10V, 11B)

Prediction after the test - 36 (12P, 11V, 13B)

Actual - 34S (12P, 11V, 11B)

I thought the PS section was more challenging and calculation heavy. Verbal was relatively easy. I thought biology was pretty easy as well, and was surprised by my actual score. The curve must have been strict. Slightly disappointed that I got lower than my lowest practice test, but as a retaker my goal was to get 34+ so I'm fairly pleased. I was also happy with my writing score (even though it probably doesn't matter). So glad I won't have to study for the MCAT again. 🙂

Congrats! I didn't do as well as you lol. But I thought the same about each section.

Is it just me, or are the 9/6 and 9/11 test takers a lot more active? The 9/11 thread is already longer than ours, and their scores aren't even out yet.

How did you improve so much? I got a 24 and I will be retaking in January I got 9ps/6vs/9bs. If you could give me some advice that'd be great I'm also taking 21 credits this semester.

Here was a break down of my previous score PS 7 VR 9 BS 8 (took it during my undergrad, not smart)
I work 40-50 hours a week now teaching chemistry (I'm 26), but I decided it was worth it to pat my dog on the head, eat some food, tell my bf to keep away from our office and then study until bedtime for three months. For me, my timing was off and I needed to improve. Nevertheless, i only took 2 bio classes 5 years ago so I had to do a TON of review. I made about 2000 flashcards with pictures using quizlet.com (and no, I don't work for them, just a fan). As for chemistry, that never was my problem.
I love the verbal 101 by examkrackers; since your verbal is low, I recommend this. In all fairness, I took the Kaplan course which gave me access to a ton of verbal tests (not saying my verbal was amazing, but enough). I mainly focused on physics since my physical sciences was so low. As for writing, well its gone now anyways : ) I took about 4-5 AAMC full lengths. Mainly just worked on content. I think your reading abilities just naturally improve by reading so darn much in prepping for this. As for your units, if I was your advisor I would say... what?! I think you need to give yourself enough free time to dedicate to the MCAT. For many, this is not something to walk into without giving it the time it deserves. If you have specific questions, PM me. Congratulations on deciding to retake, one of the hardest commitments I've had to make. In the end though, it feels so good when it all comes together. Again, I'm very proud of all your accomplishments thus far and look forward to hearing about your success! Go kick some major butt!

i think you should have a shot at an in state MD program with those numbers, depending on the rest of your app...

1st Score Last Year: 10 PS, 9 VR, 10 BS, = 29-S Overall

New Score 9/7/12: 10 PS, 11 VR, 14 BS = 35-S Overall

Pretty pumped, you guys.

Non-trad. (First two years of college pre-hiatus dragged down my cum GPA; upward since then, graduated 3.8 ultimately)

Cum = 3.41
BCPM = 3.50

Thoughts?
