Can someone please explain to me how to get these answers?

Kill it with fire synaptic!

Before you go in there though, review a little angular velocity, oxidation states, electrolysis principles, work, limiting reagent, ideal gas law, Hess's law, quantum numbers, Young's modulus, fluid dynamics.

I want you to kill this exam! Don't let PS calculations kill you on time. If you've got a relatively easy passage, go as fast through it as you feel comfortable to give yourself more time for the harder passages. And remember, if you have NO IDEA at all on a question then guess it, mark it, and move on. Don't waste time on a question that you may ponder for 5 minutes only to come to the same conclusion that you'll have to guess.

In BS, their is one passage that is going to burn your time towards the end. Keep this in mind whenever you feel yourself getting lazy/tired on the early to mid portion of the BS section.

Keep this in mind, and break 30. Break 30. BREAK 30.

I'm rooting for you synaptic.

Here is my explanation:

Plug in L = 6 and you get 24/ n = lambda

Then plug in n = 1 and n = 5 (note that n = 5 is the third harmonic for this type of system). Then combine the equations and you should get answer B. How do you combine the equations? Since 24 = lambda for n = 1 and since 24/5 = lambda for n = 5, simply substitute out 24 and then you get lambda = 5 lambda.

Same method for other question.

AAMC 11 - 13 PS, 12 VR, 13 BS - 38 - I'll take it.

I made some unbelievably stupid mistakes on PS; ones that I was SURE of, I got wrong. And that one passage in bio...oh god. Thankfully the other passages were easier. Verbal was pretty straightforward. Hoping to get this score or more on the real thing.

Oh, and good luck!

Im hoping for my best scores in each section 12/11/12. However, the highest practice exam score I've had is 33. Here's to hoping that test adrenaline will kick in!

Hello all. My first post here at SDN. I've been an avid reader for a while now and want to thank everyone for some great information and answers. It has been really great to read the experiences of those who are going through the same struggle. Puts your mind at ease a lot of the time.

Took AAMC 11 this morning, 8 / 11 / 10.

Man, I thought the PS was incredibly difficult. Got flustered on the first couple of passages and it threw off my pace for the rest of the the section.

I thought the verbal was very, very reasonable; only got 5 incorrect. Still can't believe the scoring on the MCAT. 35 / 40 only gets you an 11!

Bio was pretty reasonable as well. That Ebola passage was a killer though. Might as well have been written in Chinese.

My scores on the practice tests have been hovering around 28 / 29. Everyone I talk to says you can expect a small bump on test day. Has anyone else heard this? Does anyone else believe this? You would think it would be the other way around. Let's hope not 😉

Anyway, good luck and all the best to those taking it on the 24th. Let's kill it.

I think the safer bet is that your score will be within a point or two of your average. But you never know.

Yeah I think the questions get trickier and it's easier to make silly mistakes. It's crazy how the VR curve is so steep and then for an 11, it is like 32-35. Let's hope something similar happens in two days.

Yeah, they were pretty laughable, like missing a negative sign. Or thinking a positive charge was a negative charge. Lol. I'm fine with the VR curve where 11+ is 32+; I just hope the VR curve is not like AAMC 10.

Isn't the first question when it says the 3rd lowest, it's referring to n=5, but 5 is not the 3rd harmonic, it's still the 5th technically.

Notice how if you apply that logic to the question 346, it doesn't work out. 3rd harmonic is still n=3 for that question, so therefore, 3rd harmonic in the first question is still n=3, but because it asks for the third lowest, it's referring to the 5th harmonic. Minor detail.

Ya I can't figure out 346 now lol

It's the word-trickery going on there, 3rd lowest = 5th harmonic, but third harmonic still is n=3. I mean if there's a question like this on Thursday, you can keep thinking the other way that 3rd harmonic = 5. That'll help me out I guess 😉

got it. Thanks!! And I hope you think that acceleration at the top of a projectile trip is still -9.8 m/s even if v=0, I mean... Wait lol jk

got one of my worst scores on AAMC 11..

I found the PS really tough, but in retrospect, i wasted too much time in the beginning. I should have moved on then came back. I didnt trust my instincts on many of the problems, which costed me.

Took part of AAMC 11.

11 on PS

Started taking VR and got mad and quit. Screw VR.
Honestly, only bad things cam come from taking an AAMC now. Whatever you know, you know. Whatever you get wrong will only serve to frustrate you.

For some strange reason, I envisioned myself freaking out before the exam. However, I've been overcome with a wave of relaxation. Que sera sera.

VR is a bi#$%. However, remember that if you are confused by the passage or question, other students most likely are too. Some passages are chosen because they are poorly written. So, do your best and trust your instincts. Try to understand what type of person the author is and how the author feels about the topic they are writing about. This will help you intuit the right answer when you feel lost.

This may be a stupid question.... but do we need to print off that confirmation AAMC registration email & bring that too or is just out license needed?

ALSO... if anyone is/has used the EC 101 verbal books, have you been scoring lower scores on their practice tests too???

Verbal is my weakest by far & I keep getting 7's on the EC tests... on AAMC I have gotten 9,8,8,7,11,10 so an avg of 8.8

I just feel so stupid when reading them. Like I'll read it and be like wtf did I just read?

I do not think we need to bring confirmation. But I would recommend you call just to make sure. We do need to bring our AAMC ID, pword, and username though. It is not a stupid question at all. Lol I called them and asked if I was allowed to take my shoes off.

As for your other question, yes I have done poorly on the EK 101 but I do better on the AAMC VR's. On AAMC I get anywhere from 75% - 85% while on EK I always get 65%-70%. I find that on AAMC, I usually get lucky when I intuit the answers based on my gut feeling about the author.

Looking back, I could have done more since I started my tests really late (late march). But I certainly hit 99% of my weaknesses.

Today I finished balancing redox reaction, electrochemistry, Nernst equation, electricity (chemistry), then electricity (physics), magnetism.

I'm going to finish today with a VR test from EK and then look over my AAMC notes. No more science FL's though. I do not want to psyche myself out now coming off a 32 on AAMC11.

Hoping for a good test day and my AAMC trend seems to be in my favor, hopefully I can peak on the real thing.

What is everyone doing tomorrow?

I'm going to sleep in~10, get a haircut, get my clothes together, drive to my testing site and check in to the hotel, and then review notes late afternoon before going to the movies during the evening.

3hr. I live in Miami and I'm taking it it Ft.Myers.

It's nice to be getting out of town and in a place with a huge bed, good wifi, and unlimited hot water.

Plus a continental breakfast which is going to take every fiber of being to resist soley because I don't want the runs during the test. I friggin like those breakfasts...

I snapped this picture of my local library here about two blocks from my house. I have spent more time in this library the past three months than I have at my own house. Hopefully if I get the pleasure of attending medical school in my home town, this can continue to be my study hub.

Here is my Plan!!!
I am already at my hotel (nearest testing center was over an hour away).... tomorrow I am going to wake up at 6:30 so I am ready to do the same on Thursday, I am going to take a verbal practice test at 8am so I am used to testing in the weeee morning hours, then I am going to spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beach with my flashcards (very lightly going to shuffle through) 🙂

I'm from Miami, too! I go to FIU. Luckily, I got my MCAT center in Doral.

Just wondering, are you guys taking the 8 AM or the afternoon one?

I go to FIU as well. I'm taking the 8AM one. At first I was bummed I didn't get the 12 time slot, but all of my best scores have been coming when I take my AAMC tests in the morning. I seem to be more fresh and crisp on the morning, so it's worked out well.

Wow, maybe we've taken a class together. I'm taking it at 8 as well.

I think I'm gonna sign off and delete my SDN app until my MCAT is done with. Good luck everyone! Don't forget that getting here is an accomplishment in itself! You've all studied and worked really hard for this, and I'm sure we'll get the score we want. Byyeeeee

I am looking at some of the exam scores in the March 22 MCAT thread; damn @ verbal. Whatever, can't get psyched out now. I will do some light review tomorrow, check out the testing center, and call it a day.

Do we need to bring anything other than a photo ID?

Yah I saw those verbals, what the heck!?!?!? Seems like everyone went down..... that can only mean our chances of getting an o-k verbal section are BETTER >🙂

Agreed what is up with several of those verbal scores. That's right though it doesn't matter for us. We're locked and loaded. Let's do this!
